Thanks for this thread OZ. This is a subject that is in great need of address. These forums are rife with fallacies and I agree it does tremendous damage to the Christian faith. There are quite a few Christian doctrines that are based in logical fallacies.

Thanks, Butch.

Not all have appreciated it. However, while it is a necessary topic in Christian discussions and especially in apologetics, it sometimes is made difficult by the terms used.

Try Ad Hominem Tu Quoque.

While this forum has had many committing logical fallacies, many do not want to understand them or note how they use them. I'm prepared to move on when that happens.

I've found that it's not only this forum. I find it on every forum I go to. I also find it in many Christians I address on Facebook. I've come to believe that it's just about everywhere. I also agree that many don't seem to care. As Christians we are supposed to be expounding truth and we can't do so when were are using logical fallacies in our arguments.

Butch,

I agree that it's widespread. I encountered it by a professor in a doctoral program class at a university in 1983. It was embarrassing to me what he did in class to me with an Ad Hominem fallacy. He later apologised in private for what he did, but he did not apologise in front of the class.

Since that incident, which my church did not equip me for, I've become educated on fallacies, knowing how they function to subvert a discussion or argument, and I'm learning to give them the correct names.

I'm not surprised. I was just in a discussion with a biologist who was using fallacies in his argument. It's across the board. It doesn't seem to make any difference whether one is highly educated or not. I see it all over. However, it's really disheartening to see it in Christians.

I find it even more disheartening when Christians don't want to examine how they use fallacies. I also can use them and need to be pulled up when I use such erroneous reasoning.

The issue is truth. Fallacious reasoning with logical fallacies and the promotion and practice of truth do not go together.

Please explain. What formats?

iakov the fool
I use it to convert between the different E-book formats, like EPUB, PDF, Kindle, etc. There are additional add-ons that can be installed as well. I prefer to convert my e-books into PDF so that I can use a good PDF editor like PDF Exchange to use the mark up tools for making notes. PDF Exchange also has a a great search function and allows for loading many PDFs at once.
