Daniels 70 weeks made Simple

Contending nations may be more easily reconciled than contending critics.

Because the regular Saturday sabbath begins at sunset on Friday.
From sunset on Friday to sunset on Saturday is the 7th day.

This is true of every day of the week, not just the Sabbath.
Friday began on Thursday evening.

For the evening and the morning were the first day.

Thursday night would be counted as 1 night.

Thursday night, Friday morning. 1 night and day

Friday night, Saturday morning, 2 nights and days

Saturday night Sunday morning. 3 nights and days.

He rose on the Third Day.

Opps...sorry about that other post. Didn't see what happened soon enough to delete it.

Ok

So you are saying that He died on the high sabbeth day of Passover?

If that's correct, how could they the Jews have been in attendance?

Exo 12:14 And this day shall be unto you for a memorial; and ye shall keep it a feast to the LORD throughout your generations; ye shall keep it a feast by an ordinance for ever.
Exo 12:15 Seven days shall ye eat unleavened bread; even the first day ye shall put away leaven out of your houses: for whosoever eateth leavened bread from the first day until the seventh day, that soul shall be cut off from Israel.
Exo 12:16 And in the first day there shall be an holy convocation, and in the seventh day there shall be an holy convocation to you; no manner of work shall be done in them, save that which every man must eat, that only may be done of you.
Exo 12:17 And ye shall observe the feast of unleavened bread; for in this selfsame day have I brought your armies out of the land of Egypt: therefore shall ye observe this day in your generations by an ordinance for ever.
Exo 12:18 In the first month, on the fourteenth day of the month at even, ye shall eat unleavened bread, until the one and twentieth day of the month at even.

Luk 23:52 he, having gone near to Pilate, asked the body of Jesus,
Luk 23:53 and having taken it down, he wrapped it in fine linen, and placed it in a tomb hewn out, where no one was yet laid.
Luk 23:54 And the day was a preparation, and sabbath was approaching,

So you are saying the Jews spent Passover day at Jesus' trial and crucifixion even though it was a holy day?

Another thing to think about is when was the wave offering harvested and when was it offered as the firstfruits of the harvest?

Here's another thing about that being a holy day where they were not allowed to do anything work.
Where would the women have bought the spice?
When would they have prepared them to take on Sunday morning?

Deb,

Do you agree that He rose on the first Day of the week?

When did the Sabbath start?

When did Friday start?

Thursday night, Friday morning.

Friday night, Saturday morning,

Saturday night Sunday morning.

God called the light Day, and the darkness He called Night. So the evening and the morning were the first day. Genesis 1:5

Why are you including Thursday night if you believe He was crucified Friday afternoon? By your reckoning Jesus would have spent Thursday night in the garden before being captured.

When do you believe the sabbath begins each week?

When do you believe the sabbath begins each week?

That depends on the particular week. Some weeks have more than one sabbath.

Jhn 19:31 ¶ The Jews therefore, because it was the preparation, that the bodies should not remain upon the cross on the sabbath day, (for that sabbath day was an high day,) besought Pilate that their legs might be broken, and that they might be taken away.

Regardless our thinking, Mat 12:40 says "For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale's belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth." This requires that Jesus was crucified Thursday.

The Sabbath each and every week is on Saturday.

The first day of each and every week is on Sunday.

Every Friday the Sabbath starts in the evening.

Jesus was in the heart of the earth on Friday before the Sabbath began, Friday includes Thursday evening and Friday morning.

Jesus was in the heart of the earth [technically] 1 night and day before the Sabbath began on Friday evening.

That is why the Jews refer to any part of a day as a day and a night.

My limited understanding is that a day begins at 6 AM, and the Sabbath begins at 6:00 PM Friday.

Mar 15:25 And it was the third hour (9 AM), and they crucified him.

Mar 15:34 And at the ninth hour (3 PM?) Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani? which is, being interpreted, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?

Mar 16:2 And very early in the morning the first day of the week (Sunday), they (Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James, and Salome) came unto the sepulchre at the rising of the sun. (After 6 AM?)

Again Mat 12:40 For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale's belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.

Let’s count backward from the time Jesus was missing from the sepulcher very early on Sunday morning.
One night would be back to Saturday morning.
Two nights wauld be early Friday morning.
Three nights would be Thursday.

I don’t know of another way to count this.

The three days is not the problem, but the three nights is what throws our understanding.

In Jewish thought, any part of a day is considered a night and day.

In other words Friday took in to account Thursday evening and Ffiday morning, which includes Thirsfay night.

The evening and morning is a day
( night and day).

If you diagram it out you will see that a Thursday crucifixion won't allow a full three periods of light and dark. A Wednesday crucifixion does.

I agree that there is this within the Jewish thought and even in some OT scriptures.

However I point out again, if Friday was the Passover sabbath (which is a high sabbath according to scripture) and Sat. is the regular sabbath then ....
When and where would the women have bought the spices they needed?
And when would they have been able to prepare them before the regular Sat. sabbath?

I really doubt that accounting for Jesus' time in the tomb is "why the Jews refer to any part of a day as a day and a night.":biggrin2

I suggest you study the Passover festival. You will find that according to scripture Nisan 15 and 21 are also sabbath days. Nisan 14 is the day of preparation, while the very beginning of Nisan 15 is when the Seder is consumed.

He rose the third day of what? Study the Passover festival for the answer.

The Jews refer to any part of a day as day and night because of this scripture that says -

Evening and morning were the first day.

JLB

Wed nite to Thurs. nite
Thur nite to Fri nite
Fri nite to Sat nite

Sat nite to Sun nite - the first day of the week

Wed night to Thursday morning =
1 day and night

This is what I understand from Genesis.

KJV
Gen 1:5 And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.
YLT
Gen 1:5 and God calleth to the light `Day,' and to the darkness He hath called `Night;' and there is an evening, and there is a morning--day one.

The time of darkness is night.
The time of light is day.
Together they make 1 day. or Yom

That is how I see that God defines a day and night - that together make 1 day.
yôm
yome
From an unused root meaning to be hot; a day (as the warm hours), whether literally (from sunrise to sunset, or from one sunset to the next), or figuratively (a space of time defined by an associated term), (often used adverbially): - age, + always, +

Here thus we +always, - age , would read like age day
So when a number is add in the text like 1 day it defines what day in that context means.

So light and dark make 1 day = 24 hours
When Jesus says 3 days and 3 nights that would equal 3 lights and 3 darks
