Did Jesus Rise On Sunday ?

Scripture stating a Friday crucifixion:

Matt. 27:62

The Guard at the Tomb
62Now on the next day, the day after the preparation, the chief priests and the Pharisees gathered together with Pilate, 63and said, "Sir, we remember that when He was still alive that deceiver said, 'After three days I am to rise again.'…

Mark 15:42

42 It was Preparation Day (that is, the day before the Sabbath). So as evening approached, 43 Joseph of Arimathea, a prominent member of the Council, who was himself waiting for the kingdom of God,went boldly to Pilate and asked for Jesus’ body. 44 Pilate was surprised to hear that he was already dead. Summoning the centurion, he asked him if Jesus had already died. 45 When he learned from the centurion that it was so, he gave the body to Joseph. 46 So Joseph bought some linen cloth, took down the body, wrapped it in the linen, and placed it in a tomb cut out of rock. Then he rolled a stone against the entrance of the tomb. 47 Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of Joseph saw where he was laid.

Luke 23:54New International Version (NIV)

54 It was Preparation Day, and the Sabbath was about to begin.

John 19:31New International Version (NIV)

31 Now it was the day of Preparation, and the next day was to be a special Sabbath. Because the Jewish leaders did not want the bodies left on the crosses during the Sabbath, they asked Pilate to have the legs broken and the bodies taken down.

P.S. My apologies for the super script and bold lettering (I'm not yelling) and I'd change it if I knew how before posting. I'm working off my iPad.

Then it's not 3 days and 3 nights or 72 hours. Actually, the scripture you gave (i.e. a "special Sabbath") is ironically the very same scripture I use to disprove a Friday crucifixion. Even a child knows to ask why a Friday afternoon to some time pre-dawn Sunday morning is not 3 days and 3 nights, knowing that such reckoning of time makes no sense. But then the adults make up all kinds of explanations to make it 10 pounds of fudge fit into a 5-pound bag to keep some "sacred" traditions. I mean, you would probably claim you were gypped if you were promised a 3 day and 3 night cruise and the ship left port near sundown Friday and had you back before Sunrise Sunday. Right? I hope. I really don't understand how people can make up such a convoluted calendar and don't seem to understand this, but they have no problem counting to 3 other days of the week when it comes to vacation time off or to that effect.

Correct, to show his finished work accepted by the Father for sins. I did not mean to ascend and stay there like he did 40 days later which was for a different reason.

Christ ascended twice?

That's a new reading. Any proof that the Apostle's taught this to the Early Church?

I'm quoting Scripture.

Then Quote scripture that says he died on a Friday. (Crickets) That's what I thought.

He presented himself to the Father as accepted sacrifice for our sins, yes. It's all in the feasts, and OT types and shadows.

Now I will quote scripture.

For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale's belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.

Jesus answered, Are there not twelve hours in the day? If any man walk in the day, he stumbleth not, because he seeth the light of this world.

Straight out of the mouth of the Lord. Friday sundown to predawn Sunday morning does not follow the Lord's prophecies or definitions of a day. It must be tradition, or perhaps your interpretation of time that is wrong. I.e. what you are calling 3 days and 3 nights is some other period of time.

Perhaps you'd like to explain to everyone here why 36 hours (or less) is really 72 hours and then claim you are quoting scripture?

I already posted four separate sets of Scripture in which the Apostles each state that Christ died a day prior to the Sabbath day.

An additional quote from Christ where He only quotes "three days" leaving off the three nights:

"Jesus Cleanses the Temple

19Jesus answered them, "Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up."

20The Jews then said, "It took forty-six years to build this temple, and will You raise it up in three days?"

21But He was speaking of the temple of His body.…

No, but Matthew 28:1 does:

"The Resurrection

1Now after the Sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary came to look at the grave.2And behold, a severe earthquake had occurred, for an angel of the Lord descended ...."
Jesus was already gone man, you have not proved it. That is not proof that He rose on Sunday. The angel told them He is not here,

Mary finds the tomb open the day after the Sabbath and Scripture writes in four accounts that He was crucified the day prior to the Sabbath and He said He would raise in three days after His Temple was torn down.

He dies mid afternoon around 3 PM Friday and is entombed prior to stars rising - day one according to how Jews kept time.

Friday star rise to Saturday star rise / still entombed - day two

Saturday star rise to early dawn Sunday - day three

Perhaps you are not aware that in addition to the weekly Saturday sabbath, there are other special sabbaths associated with the Jewish festivals. Nisan 15 is one such date that is always a sabbath no matter what day of the week it falls on.

Lev 23:4 ¶ These are the feasts of the LORD, even holy convocations, which ye shall proclaim in their seasons.
Lev 23:5 - In the fourteenth day of the first month at even is the LORD'S passover.
Lev 23:6 - And on the fifteenth day of the same month is the feast of unleavened bread unto the LORD: seven days ye must eat unleavened bread.
Lev 23:7 - In the first day ye shall have an holy convocation: ye shall do no servile work therein.
Lev 23:8 - But ye shall offer an offering made by fire unto the LORD seven days: in the seventh day is an holy convocation: ye shall do no servile work therein.

Num 28:16 ¶ And in the fourteenth day of the first month is the passover of the LORD.
Num 28:17 - And in the fifteenth day of this month is the feast: seven days shall unleavened bread be eaten.
Num 28:18 - In the first day shall be an holy convocation; ye shall do no manner of servile work therein:

So with a Wednesday crucifixion (Preparation Day - Nisan 14), the very next day (Nisan 15) is the first day of the week-long feast of unleavened bread, and is a special high sabbath even though it is only a Thursday.

Jhn 19:31 - The Jews therefore, because it was the preparation, that the bodies should not remain upon the cross on the sabbath day, (for that sabbath day was an high day,) besought Pilate that their legs might be broken, and that they might be taken away.

Read this man, slowly and carefully, maybe this guy can do a better job of explaining it to you.

Jesus Was Crucified on a Wednesday
http://jesusprophecies.wordpress.com/2011/04/22/jesus-was-crucified-on-a-wednesday/

I already posted four separate sets of Scripture in which the Apostles each state that Christ died a day prior to the Sabbath day.

Yes, and one of those scriptures was John where he mentioned the Sabbath High Day aka Unleavened Bread Sabbath, the 15th of Nisan as I already stated. That could fall on any day of the week, and then the weekly Sabbath came on Saturday. So there were two Sabbaths spaced two days apart. Besides the weekly Sabbath, there's seven additional Sabbaths falling on any day of the week during the year. So to say that he was crucified Friday just because the next day was a Sabbath one has to assume that's the weekly Sabbath, and only shows that they are not familiar with their calendar system. Very weak argument to adamantly state it was Friday for this reason. This is what I called the "Gentilization of the calendar" when they add their own holidays or slant to the holy days.

The Early Church was taught by the Apostles that Christ rose from the dead on "the day of the Sun".

Testimony to that ancient apology is available online.

I don't have a need for the Resurrection to land on Saturday to support some personally held conviction.

How about to fit with what Scripture says? You still haven't answered my question about the two Sabbaths mentioned in the Gospels - one the day before the women bought the spices and one the day after they bought the spices. Can you show us how to fit that into your personally held conviction?

The TOG

The Great Sabbath heralded in the Messiah when Passover coincided with the Sabbath.

In four sets of Scripture each write that Christ died on Preparation Day, the day prior to the Saturday Sabbath.

The women brought the spices "after" the Sabbath had ended (on Sunday).

The Resurrection
1Now after the Sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary came to look at the grave.2And behold, a severe earthquake had occurred, for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven and came and rolled away the stone and sat upon it.…

The word "preparation" wasn't the name of a day, but a description. It was the day before any Sabbath (not just the weekly Sabbath) and was used to prepare for the Sabbath.

The women brought the spices "after" the Sabbath had ended (on Sunday).

If the women bought the spices on Sunday, where's the second Sabbath the Scripture talks about?

The TOG

I believe that, too. Thanks
Yes that's ascending to present his blood just as the High Priest did on the mercy seat of the Ark on the Day of Atonement. Now I won't get into the details of presenting the blood as people have all sorts of interpretations. However, Christ's work to save from sin entailed shedding blood. I wasn't there in heaven so I don't know exactly what transpired. :lol

They could not have bought them on Sunday because Luke says.....

Luk 23:55 And the women also, which came with him from Galilee, followed after, and beheld the sepulchre, and how his body was laid.
Luk 23:56 And they returned, and prepared spices and ointments; and rested the sabbath day according to the commandment.

Jesus was in the tomb, they saw him, they prepared the spices, AND rested the Sabbath Day.

Mar 16:1 And when the sabbath was past, Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James, and Salome, had bought sweet spices, that they might come and anoint him.

Do you see that there are two different Sabbaths mentioned in these verses.

After the Sabbath (the first day of unleavened bread) was past, the women bought the spices and prepared them and then rested on the Sabbath (7th day Sabbath, Saturday).
