Looks like we're both right brother. Either at first it turns black, and over time it turns green, or perhaps it has to do with the specific copper alloy. Copper pipes have a lot of red brass in them to harden it. A little research showed me that the statute of Liberty is green because it is copper. I know one thing for sure, I've never seen old copper pipes looking like the statue of liberty. They're always black and need a lot of clean up before soldering again.
