Does God LOVE everybody

1 John 3:15 Everyone who hates his brother is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life abiding in him

The text says they are a murderer and are not saved (does not have eternal life).
You need the whole context here to get this is instruction to Christians on how to treat one another . The reference is to Cain and Able . Read the chapter a few times and you will get it :Agsm . I think the message is don't let any hate take root in your heart for your brethren . I needed to hear this message recently .

1 John 3:15 Context

12Not as Cain, who was of that wicked one, and slew his brother. And wherefore slew he him? Because his own works were evil, and his brother's righteous. 13Marvel not, my brethren, if the world hate you. 14We know that we have passed from death unto life, because we love the brethren. He that loveth not his brother abideth in death. 15Whosoever hateth his brother is a murderer: and ye know that no murderer hath eternal life abiding in him. 16Hereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren. 17But whoso hath this world's good, and seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him? 18My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth.

Yes the text certainly does say “his brother”.

Whoever hates his brother is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life abiding in him. 1 John 3:15

When we hate we are not walking in the light but in darkness.

He who says he is in the light, and hates his brother, is in darkness until now. He who loves his brother abides in the light, and there is no cause for stumbling in him. But he who hates his brother is in darkness and walks in darkness, and does not know where he is going, because the darkness has blinded his eyes. 1 John 2:9-11

  • He who loves his brother abides in the light
  • But he who hates his brother is in darkness

Love = light

Hate = darkness

This is the message which we have heard from Him and declare to you, that God is light and in Him is no darkness at all.
1 John 1:5

God is love… in Him is no darkness.

He who does not love does not know God, for God is love.
1 John 4:8
The person in the text is not regenerate, or he would not hate his brother.

Honestly pretty simple.

Yes, I posted about this a while back.

We all need to hear this.

Do you believe God wants the world to be saved?
Yes, He wants the Cosmos to be saved, and He does it by bringing many sons to glory and creating a new heaven's and a new earth.

2 Peter 3:13 Nevertheless we, according to His promise, look for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells.

Rev_14:3 They sang as it were a new song before the throne, before the four living creatures, and the elders; and no one could learn that song except the hundred and forty-four thousand who were redeemed from the earth.
Notice, they were redeemed from the Earth. From = apo - it usually denotes separation, departure, cessation, completion, reversal, etc.

Rev_21:1 Now I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away. Also there was no more sea.

So God saves the cosmos by having the old "world you live on now" pass away and bringing a new one.

  • Whoever believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God

No where in the context or anywhere in 1 John 5 is the word elect mentioned.
Never in the context is elect mentioned. It also doesn't mention (in the context) that those who believe will be saved, go to heaven, have eternal life and a few other things. But we know all those things are true of those who believe because it tells us so in the rest of the New Testament.

To you "context" seems to be one verse. To most "context" is the whole teaching of the Bible.

Mat 24:31 And He will send His angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they will gather together His elect (eklektos) from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.

Mat 20:16 So the last will be first, and the first last. For many are called, but few chosen (eklektos)."

1 Peter 2:9 But you are a chosen (eklektos) generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light;

Col 3:12 Therefore, as the elect (eklektos) of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering;

Titus 1:1 Paul, a bondservant of God and an apostle of Jesus Christ, according to the faith of God's elect (eklektos)

Rev 17:14 These will make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb will overcome them, for He is Lord of lords and King of kings; and those who are with Him are called, chosen (eklektos), and faithful."

How many times does the NT have to tell you that believers are called and chosen (eklektos)?

Do you believe God wants the world to be saved?

Yeah, His Elect is His World, His Own in this wicked world Jn 13:1

Now before the feast of the passover, when Jesus knew that his hour was come that he should depart out of this world unto the Father, having loved his own which were in the world, he loved them unto the end.

This is not just a request, it's the law.

Words added to verses in brackets are not allowed (*******) or [*******] unless it is a real bible version that does exactly that AND make sure you do what the note said above . Such as (AMP) , (NIV) .

If you want to add brackets to a verse TELL US you are doing it and tell us it is YOUR paraphrase !

Here are examples of what is NOT acceptable . I will delete your whole post .

Christ, who is God, is said to Love the Church [World] Eph 5:25

Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church[The Elect], and gave himself for it;
AMP version is not notated .
Rev 17:14 These will make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb will overcome them, for He is Lord of lords and King of kings; and those who are with Him are called, chosen (eklektos), and faithful."
This is almost an (AMP) version , but it isn't .

The person in the text is not regenerate, or he would not hate his brother.

Honestly pretty simple.

I don't what world you live in but born again Christians can indeed begin to hate another Christian, especially husbands and wives that have been unfaithful.

If you ever work with many Christians in counseling and deliverance, you would know that unforgiveness is huge.

Whoever hates his brother is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life abiding in him. 1 John 3:15

Plainly John is warning against such... Whoever (pertains to everyone) hates his brother (his brother refers to two brothers) is (considered as) a murderer.

No murderer has eternal life ABIDING (remaining, continuing) in them.

Eternal life must first be present in a person for them to continue to have eternal life?

So yes, "his brother" refers to two brothers in Christ.

And in the bigger picture, we see that for the subject of this thread, God does not hate people, if He requires His children not to hate people.

This is the message which we have heard from Him and declare to you, that God is light and in Him is no darkness at all. 1 John 1:5

God is love. God is not in darkness.
That is your interpretation.

There are only 2 types of people in the world, the regenerate and unregenerate, there is no "in between".

Those who are regenerate cannot lose salvation or even wlak away from the faith, this is not Biblical.

There are no "mindless " posters in this thread . Threads bans applied .

Why did John pen 1 John?

So you believe "his brother" doesn't really mean "his brother" ?

Actually that is not surprising.

That's just as bad as trying to convince Christians that "the world" in John 3:16 really means the elect.

You guys are only deceiving yourselves.

Why did John pen 1 John?

To write to brothers in Christ in order to instruct them.

1 That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, concerning the Word of life— 2 the life was manifested, and we have seen, and bear witness, and declare to you that eternal life which was with the Father and was manifested to us— 3 that which we have seen and heard we declare to you, that you also may have fellowship with us; and truly our fellowship is with the Father and with His Son Jesus Christ. 4 And these things we write to you that your joy may be full. 5 This is the message which we have heard from Him and declare to you, that God is light and in Him is no darkness at all. 1 John 1:1-5

Darkness = Hate

God is love. There is no darkness in Him.

9 He who says he is in the light, and hates his brother, is in darkness until now. 10 He who loves his brother abides in the light, and there is no cause for stumbling in him. 11 But he who hates his brother is in darkness and walks in darkness, and does not know where he is going, because the darkness has blinded his eyes. 1 John 2:9-11

Did Jesus speak for God ?
I don't understand why you directed this question to me? You know as well as I do that Jesus speaks for the Father.

John 14:24
He who does not love Me does not keep My words; and the word which you hear is not Mine but the Father's who sent Me.

John 7:16 Jesus answered them and said, "My doctrine is not Mine, but His who sent Me.

Who did Jesus hate ? Didn't Jesus love everyone and he told us to love everyone ?
Questions often need definitions. Love is agape in Greek and means: "The essence of agape love is goodwill, benevolence, and willful delight in the object of love." https://www.gotquestions.org/agape-love.html

Now we have a clear definition we can ask: Does God have "goodwill, benevolence, and willful delight" for all human beings without exception?

  • 95% (my estimate) of the world's population ends up in hell for eternity .. this is contrary to God's "goodwill, benevolence, and willful delight"
  • Billions of people have died never hearing of Christ. Knowledge of Christ is essential if one wishes to avoid hell. God is all powerful and could see to it that everyone heard of Christ, but has not done so .. this is contrary to God's "goodwill, benevolence, and willful delight"
  • Jacob I love and Esau I hated ... .. this is contrary to God's "goodwill, benevolence, and willful delight"
  • Psalm 5:5 The boastful shall not stand before your eyes; you hate all evildoers.
  • Daniel 12:2 And many of those who sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt.
  • Habakkuk 1:13 “Thou art of purer eyes than to behold evil, and canst not look on iniquity:”
  • John 3:36 He that believeth [the elect] on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son [the unelect] shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him. (KJV)
  • Romans 1:18 “For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth.
  • Hebrews 1:9 “You have loved righteousness [integrity, virtue, uprightness in purpose] and have hated lawlessness [injustice, sin].
Since Jesus is God, these verses apply to him. Thus, the answer to the question "does Jesus have love (goodwill, benevolence, and willful delight) for everyone is biblical yand empirically shown to be NO!
... and I know about John 3:16 (For God so loved the world), but a word study of the use of the word WORLD will find various meanings which people take advantage of to make verses like John 3:16 fit their agenda.
Examples of World in scripture that obviously doesn't mean everyone without exception:

  • “Your faith is spoken of throughout the whole world” (Romans 1:8)
  • John 1:29 The next day he saw Jesus coming to him and said, “Look! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!

That's why Jesus said if you continue in my word you are my disciples indeed.

That doesn't mean a person can not start out being a disciple then turn away from continuing.
That is what it sounds like to me. This is a if/then statement.

John 8:31 Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, "If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed.

The "then" isn't there but it is implied.
If you abide in my word then you are my disciples indeed.

Did you read the rest of the chapter to see who Jesus was talking to? He was talking to Jews who believed in Him.

John 8:35 And a slave does not abide in the house forever, but a son abides forever.

Here is the word "abide" used twice. It seems possible to not abide forever.

Jesus keeps going:
John 8:37 "I know that you are Abraham's descendants, but you seek to kill Me, because My word has no place in you.

Whoops! It started out saying that these Jews believed Him (verse 31). Now He says His word has no place in them. They argue back and forth about who is their father through the next few verses.
Then:
John 8:43 Why do you not understand My speech? Because you are not able to listen to My word. 44 You are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you want to do.

They believed in Him. They are not able to listen to His Word. Their father is the devil.
It started out in verse 31 saying these Jews believed Him. Now I am wondering what they believed.
