Bible Study Earth is 6000 yrs old?

For a long time now, everything that I have studied from theologians and Christian geologists say we are approximately 6000 years old. now, the number of completion with God is 7, therefore we might figure that at the end of 7000 years, Jesus will be coming back. Obviously, no one knows exactly when that will be so we can't set any dates. Some try and guess a generation but that would be almost impossible or downright foolish.

It is fun to think that Jesus might come at anytime because some say that the thousand year reign of Jesus is figured into the equation, therefore Jesus could come tomorrow, uh, right now! :dancing
Tomorrow or in about 5 seconds would work for me thankyouverymuch :thumbsup

Well, you are a sharp looking man.And I can see kindness in those eyes :)

Oh, thank you for those kind words my dear. I was not always as kind as I was demanding that people in the churches that I was their pastor, GROW UP!! 1lbTaylor spoke of that and we both were tired of bottle feeding Christians who had been saved for years with no real growth. There is an awesome responsibility for every pastor to PREACH THE WORD and preach repentance from dead works. It is really frustrating to see people just "warm a pew" and do nothing else. An old preacher told me once, "preach to the handful of hungry believers and let the rest warm the pew, you need the heat".

Since leaving being a full time pastor, I'm able to relax being so aggressive against sin, only in my own life. Being a Christian psychologist opened a fresh door into a realm that I had not faced as a pastor. I came face to face with demon oppression, a host of broken hearts, broken relationships, and just broken people. Through counseling in these situations, I saw how the Holy Spirit who was really the counselor, helped those people. He was way more gentle and kind than I was, so I had to change to keep up with Him.

I must always give the glory for what He has accomplished thru me, because everyone likes to be appreciated, including myself. If I'm not careful, I'll steal His glory, and that is sin!....Love you!

The Bible doesn't say that explicitely.
You have to make a number of assumptions to get to that conclusion, for exmple the assumption that the 6 days of creation were actual days (24 hour intervalls). Most christians don't make that assumption and thus most of us don't believe the Bible makes any statement about the age of the world.

As far as I know the 6000 years are the result of calculations some Genesis literalists made based on the genealogies in the book of Genesis that describes the line of descent from Adam to what was present in the day the lineage was written down. The genealogies tell us who was who's father ad how old was he when he got his first son, and so on. Thus scholars claim to know how many centuries ago Adam walked on earth, and since he was made on day six we can know when the world was created.

That's why some christians believe in that ureasonably young age of the earth. Evidence shows the world must be a lot older.
This sounds like an evolution thread.
Count me in.
I say the earth is around 20,000 years old, give or take some years.

Creationists are in trouble explaining the dinosaurs.

Hm sounds more like a wild guessing thread.

That is your opinion.I am not going to debate what you believe in.

Creationists are in trouble explaining the dinosaurs.

I'm a creationist and I don't have a problem with dinosaurs. God created them when he created all the other animals. The only "problem" is that the evolutionists have the dating wrong.

Then what happened to them? How did they go extinct?

Then what happened to them? How did they go extinct?

How did any species go extinct? And how does the fact that species go extinct indicate the age of the earth?

The TOG

Because if God created every species according to its kind (so there is no evolution from one species to another) and then entire classes of species go extinct within such a short period of time we'd run out of species some day. That would be detrimental to the entire ecosystem of the planet. Biodiversity is so important! The fact that God allows for natural extinction is only understandable if he also allows for new species to evolve.

How did they go extinct???
Who knows?
We weren't there!!!

If the earth is only 10k years old and humans have been around since day 6, then we were there, or the dinosaurs went extinct on day 4 which means they were a rather pointless creation existing for only one day.

And if you have a theory about something and you want people to accept your theory you better make a greater effort

I have no theories.
I just trust in and love Jesus.
Nothing else matters.
It is all meaningless.

Has anyone said the flood had something to do with their extinction.. :wave

tob

Because we do not know the precise length of a day for our Lord, it's difficult to establish the exact age of the earth/universe.

"But do not let this one fact escape your notice, beloved, that with the Lord one day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years like one day." 2 Peter 3:8

However, we do know that homo sapiens sapiens (us) were created on Day 6, which leads us to know our particular species has been around for approximately 6,000 years.

One health issue that has been determined with some dinosaurs: Some of the fossils show evidence of cancer. I found that to be rather astounding; I hadn't given thought to cancer reaching that far back. It does lead me to wonder if alligators, crocodiles and other remnant dinosaurs are prone to cancer as well.

Oh, don't mind me. I'm just thinking via fingers on keyboard.

Before the flood people and animal life lived longer accounting for the size ever seen a 300 year old tomcat?

Not yet, though I was kinda waiting for it.
My pla was that I was going to ask why God would have excluded them from getting saved on the Ark. Some of them weren't that big. Elefants are bigger than many dino species and they obviously got saved.
