email

You'll find that the freebee emails such as yahoo, msn, and google are prime targets.

For a secure password one method is to use the first letters (and some numbers) in a sentence you can remember.

For example, you can say, "Today I ate 3 hotdogs from the fair." becomes TIa3hftf

I'd like to see any person or machine figure that out. Usually after a few attempts, the email times out a few minutes,so it would take forever. I can easily figure out the number of combinations lower case, upper case, number and symbols can have, but it's astronomical.

Might want to change your passwords reba, how long has this been going on? Sites are being hacked all the time, big business and small business alike. Are you getting emails from other sources, changing your passwords is the recommended fix for this..

This is a good tip, though I would add throwing in a some special characters to replace some of the letters. Like using the @ symbol instead of A, or using the exclamation point instead of the number 1.

Yes,good suggestion using characters in your password. One of my e-mail sites was hacked and they were all over it telling me to immediately change my password and to use characters.

Something else that is helpful is to get into a rotation of changing your more important passwords every 60 to 90 days. This can become rather bothersome, but it is better than having your accounts hacked. Also, try not to use the same password for multiple accounts, because once they get into one account, they will be able to get into others. Then things get really messy.

I hear they are about to roll out a chip that will take care of all these issues! :clown

You can also use keyboard patterns. ex. zse4$RFVgy7 Then shift the pattern every 90 days. xdr5%TGBhu8 The patterns are endless (sorta).

Here's one: I ate 3 hotdogs at the fair costing much money --> I83h@tfcm$
There ya go: Use that idea to include caps, lowercase, numbers and characters.

I would just write it out like this: Iate3hotdogsatthefair

I use phrases for my passwords. Works for me and they're easier to remember.
