Paul is teaching them how to keep sin from from becoming their master again, by presenting themselves as a slave to God, and His righteousness, rather than presenting themselves as a slave to sin.

Here is what the Lord warned Cain.

It's understandable why this is a common understanding of Romans 6:16, but I believe Scripture never teaches the concept, for to be in sin (slave to sin leading to death) would mean not to be in Christ because those in Christ (born again) "shall not" be dominated by the sin nature (Rom 6:14), which answers to being "dead to sin" (Rom 6:2) and "dead in Christ" (Col 2:20), which all occurs at rebirth, and the lifestyle of the saint will manifest this more all the time during the progression of our maturity in "the image of Christ" (Rom 8:19; 2Cor 3:18).

I believe the exhortation to "let not sin reign in your mortal body" (Rom 6:14) is not in the sense of admonishing or warning one to avoid doing something but describing an example of something that one born again would not do, otherwise this would conflict and frustrate (contradict) the truth that God "works" (Phl 2:13) in all who are born again. Thus to me this exhortation (as all seemingly admonishment are to me) is another means of identification (Mat 7:16, 20) concerning those who are not in Christ, who are continuing to allow sin's rule.

I believe your 'condition' stated above is a made-up, hypothetical 'condition' that is in fact clearly contrary to what Paul taught about a person who is under grace.

Speaking to and about a person who is under grace, Paul says:

Rom 6:14 (LEB) For sin will not be master over you, because you are not under law, but under grace.​

I believe Paul meant what he said, and said what he meant. Sin will NOT be master over you who are under grace. Straightforward and Biblical. Yet your idea about a person who is under grace becoming 'a slave again to sin' is directly contradictory to Paul's teaching in verse 6:14. All context in/around verse 14 included in my analysis.

I have noticed that you only quote and talk about Romans 6:14, which is how I have come to the conclusion that you ignore the surrounding context.

God did not create mankind with the idea of sin being in dominion, or ruling as a master over man.

This is the principle Paul is teaching the Roman Christians, many of whom were slaves or freedmen [former slaves], appealing to their "slave" mind set in a way they could understand.

There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit. Romans 8:1

and again

I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. Galatians 5:16

Paul warned us that those who walk according to the flesh, and practice the works of the flesh, will not inherit the kingdom of God.

While the world has the majority of believers scrutinizing overt actions and lifestyle.......God scrutinizes what we are THINKING and our MOTIVES. I will at least be honest with myself, I live in sin. I still get angry, frustrated, mull over things I KNOW I should not, I worry, I feel guilty.........And I KNOW I am saved.

The living in sin I'm referring to is willful sin, e.g. sinning intentionally. If one is sharing what they believe to be true but is not true, this is not presumptuous sin (i.e. Num 15:30).

Just because a person is born again, doesn't mean they automatically know how to walk in the Spirit, or crucify the flesh, or put to death the deeds of the flesh so that they may live.

Those who have been born again, and filled with God's Spirit, then later fall into sexual immorality and live in an adulterous relationship for years, and never repent and are never caught, then get killed in a car accident...

Brother this kind of thing happens all the time in the Church.

The ugly truth is this happens among Church leadership, as well.

In all these scriptures I presented to you, to examine, can you point out the language in any of them that indicate Paul taught these people were not born again, that these warnings were to people of the world?

Paul plainly says that he does not judge those who are outside the Church... For what have I to do with judging those also who are outside?

In all these passages, Paul is warning Christians, that if the live an unrighteous immoral lifestyle, they will not inherit the kingdom of God.

It is through the active choice of the believer, who has been given all things that pertain to life and godliness, to either live according to the flesh, by gratifying it's sinful desires, or live according to the Spirit in obedience by crucifying the flesh.

2 Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord, 3 as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue, 4 by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust. 2 Peter 1:2-4

That's the inherent problem with bolding and coloring a portion of a verse as if it's more important than what's left un-highlighted.

Why not highlight "whoever is born of God" in 1 John 5:18??? To me, John is giving the credit to God for keeping the wicked one from touching that person. Not the person himself. If we could do it without God, there'd be no need for Christ and the Holy Spirit.

Same for Romans 8:12-13. Why not highlight in red "we are debtors" and "by the spirit"??? Paul is giving credit and authority to God, not the person.

It's the righteousness of God to all who believe, not the righteousness of the believer to God that matters. Even a believer's righteousness falls short of the glory of God.
It's the gift of God's Grace, not the sinlessness of the believer that matters.
It's His blood, not our lack of sin (as if we could have a lack of sin) that matters.
God is the one who is just and who justifies the person of faith, not the person of faith who justifies himself by sinning only a little versus a lot.

The way mankind glorify's God is to display the righteousness of God through their lives.

6 So the Lord said to Cain, “Why are you angry? And why has your countenance fallen? 7 If you do well, will you not be accepted? And if you do not do well, sin lies at the door. And its desire is for you, but you should rule over it.” Genesis 4:6-7

We were made to rule over sin, not sin ruling as a master over us.

Do you not know that to whom you present yourselves slaves to obey, you are that one’s slaves whom you obey, whether of sin leading to death, or of obedience leading to righteousness? Romans 6:16

Jesus Christ came to restore this position of God given dominion to mankind, that was lost in the garden.

Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion... Genesis 1:26


Christians who live immoral lives, do not glorify God.

Here is what Paul commanded concerning, Christians who live immoral lives.

9 I wrote to you in my epistle not to keep company with sexually immoral people. 10 Yet I certainly did not mean with the sexually immoral people of this world, or with the covetous, or extortioners, or idolaters, since then you would need to go out of the world. 11 But now I have written to you not to keep company with anyone named a brother, who is sexually immoral, or covetous, or an idolater, or a reviler, or a drunkard, or an extortioner—not even to eat with such a person. 1 Corinthians 5:9-11


Here is the warning for Christians who live immoral lives.


19 Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery,fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, 20 idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, 21 envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.
Galatians 5:19-21

...those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.
