Eternal Security or Once Saved Always Saved; Is It Scriptural?
What does it mean to be saved? It means its in Christ that we live move and have our being, its in the body of Christ that we live, once ejected from that body there is no longer life, but death. As long as we remain in the body of Christ we are saved, now the question is can we be ejected form that security in Christ and be lost. Let’s let Jesus the Christ answer that most important once and for all:
“I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot. So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth.” [Rev 3:15-16]
The people the Lord is sending this warning to are not pagans and unbelievers, but the saved, those in His body. These people are secured, they are saved, there is no more secured place then in the body of Christ. But look at the warning the Lord sends to the now saved. Jesus said He will spue them out of their once secured place of salvation. Though they were once saved, they can lose that salvation. What the false doctrine of once saved always is, is a license to live in sin.
That’s my take on it; what’s yours?
To the Church in Laodicea
Rev 3:14 “And to the angel of the church in Laodicea write: ‘The words of the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of God's creation.
Rev 3:15 “‘I know your works: you are neither cold nor hot. Would that you were either cold or hot!
Rev 3:16 So, because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of my mouth.
Rev 3:17 For you say, I am rich, I have prospered, and I need nothing, not realizing that you are wretched, pitiable, poor, blind, and naked.
Rev 3:18 I counsel you to buy from me gold refined by fire, so that you may be rich, and white garments so that you may clothe yourself and the shame of your nakedness may not be seen, and salve to anoint your eyes, so that you may see.
Rev 3:19 Those whom I love, I reprove and discipline, so be zealous and repent.
Rev 3:20 Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with me.
Rev 3:21 The one who conquers, I will grant him to sit with me on my throne, as I also conquered and sat down with my Father on his throne.
Rev 3:22 He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.’”
This is not about believers losing their salvation. This comes across as those who go to church, make their tithe, sit on the church board, go through the motions of being a Christian but have, at best, only an intellectual 'love' for God not the humbled heart he demands. Those that think being good, along with their works, will get them into heaven in the end.
Psa 51:17 The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise.
