Funny old sayings...

My grandmother said, (when sympathizing with a person in need or distress) " Poor thing, she has nary a chick nor child." Another favorite of hers, "But for the grace of God, there go I." God blesses grandmothers!!!

Use to could (or maybe that's one word usetocould?) I haven't tried in many years.

You wouldn't think that coffee would make a good gravy, but it's good!

We always made it with drippings from fried country ham, the 'red eye' is from when you pour it into a bowl it looks like a red eye. No flour is added so it's sorta like a broth? More like au jus.

Did you put coffee into it? That's how we did it. No flour like you say and it is real thin. fry up the ham and then add to the drippings 1/2 to 1 cup of your house coffee and cook it down a little. An extra spice or to that you like and pour it over your ham and taters.

yep, coffee went in it, and we did pour it over ham and taters, and dipped biscuits in it. Then I would be thirsty for the rest of the day.
Now I'm getting hungry! :lol
