God: he, she or it?

We believe that Jesus of Nazareth is the promised Messiah, born of a virgin, totally without sin, God in human flesh, the One Who died on the cross for our sins, was buried, rose again from the dead on the third day, and ascended to the right hand of the Father in heaven, where He now intercedes for us who believe in Him.

Yes i am serious.

reba:

Well, exactly; this is Biblical.

Period.

troll much? i think so.

why argue over something YOU dont believe? if theres no god then why are you going to tell me what to beleive if YOU have no leg in it. you have by your arguement said by logic if god is to be then by rules of logic he can be a he or she nor human but an it.

vehemently and then to add insult you argued with a mod and complained softly. for sometheing you deny you argue for it alot.

you dont have to believe in our god to even be here, yet when we do say what we beleive the word says he is you argue as if you know that he cant be he nor she.

we even said he is beyond the words he and she and say that he has no sex organs but uses he to get the idea across. we all know that he isnt human. only YOU want to argue. it would be easier if you said i dont understand but i wont troll nor argue with that here.

How many times do I have to tell you. I am not telling you what to believe. I am telling you my interpretation of the issue on hand.

You were the ones that replied to me, not the other way around. I was stating my interpreatation of an issue which bothered the OP and I happened to share his opinion.

Harry potter isn't sexless because J.K Rowling has established he is a guy.

Harry is allowed in BOYS bathrooms, IN THE BOYS COMMON ROOM.

He is made to be a boy.

He has fictional biological parts.

Just because you believe he is a he, and it is your religion, does not make it so.

I've read all of the Potter books, cover to cover and more than once. I doubt there is any instance in any of the books in which Harry's biological make up is referred to. The fact that he uses boys bathrooms or the boy's common room establishes that he is a he... but then again, he uses the girl's bathroom (the one haunted by Moaning Myrtle) as well. He isn't established as a he because of which bathroom or common room he happens to be in... He is established as a he because that is how he is referred to throughout the books... as a boy, as a he... as him... as male.

Now, I would surmise that you would place the Bible in the same genre as Harry Potter... fictional fantasy...

Why can you accept that Harry Potter as a he, even though there is an absense of discussion of his biological make up... but cannot accept the many, many, many refernces to our God as He?

I dont go to your house and insult what you believe. Those posting in this thread if you are not going to be respectful to God, this site and ToS you dont need to be here. Yes i am serious.

He didn't go into the girls bathroom to ( you know) He went in there for TOTALLY DIFFERENT REASONS.

Any boy can sneak into a girls bathroom. That doesn't change the sex.

Harry is made to be a human with wizard powers, so he naturally( infered) has biological parts that resemble ours.

God, by my interpretation has no such body parts, and is only refered to as masculine because he either PREFERS IT or ACTS like a male. That doesn't change the fact that he had no biological parts to tell the difference.

Fair enough!! :thumbsup

Thanks Handy ^_^.

Btw, there are a ton of instance where God compares himself to a mother, a mother eagle, a mother hen, a woman in labour etc.. Here are some biblical examples:

Hosea 11:3-4
Today's New International Version (TNIV)
3 It was I who taught Ephraim to walk,
taking them by the arms; but they did not realize
it was I who healed them. 41 led them with cords of human kindness,
with ties of love. To them I was like one who lifts
a little child to the cheek,
and I bent down to feed them.

Deuteronomy 32:18
Today's New International Version (TNIV)
18 You deserted the Rock, who bore you; you forgot the God who gave you birth.

Isaiah 66:13
Today's New International Version (TNIV)
13 As a mother comforts her child, so will I comfort you;
and you will be comforted over Jerusalem."

Isaiah 42:14
Today's New International Version (TNIV)
14 "For a long time I have kept silent,
I have been quiet and held myself back. But now, like a woman in childbirth,
I cry out, I gasp and pant.

Deuteronomy 32:11-12
King James Version (KJV)
11 As an eagle stirreth up her nest, fluttereth over her young, spreadeth abroad her wings,
taketh them, beareth them on her wings
12 So the lord alone did lead him, and there was no strange god with him.

Matthew 23:37<O:p</O:p
King James Version (KJV)
37 O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets, and stonest them which are sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, and ye would not!

So, God doesn't really seem to have a problem referring to himself as "her" as a "mother" as a mother "hen" or as a mother "eagle" or as a mother giving birth.

I think these are important images for God; and many times "he" uses them "himself." If these images do not fit with our traditional views, it may be because our traditions have been shaped by those who emphasized God's masculine attributes at the expense of the feminine. Highlighting God's feminine characteristics may in fact be adding some much needed balance to our theological conceptions.

I'm very happy to serve a God who created both male and female in "his" image. I'm happy to pray to "Our Father" who describes himself repeatedly "as a mother."

If any of this bogs me down, I'm apt to remember that gender, for God, is always metaphor, since he is in fact Spirit. That's what works for me :)

Trust me, this is nothing personal, yet you people take it as such.
Its not at all like I am calling you an opposite gender. I am giving my opinion to an OP that wanted peoples OPINION.

I gave mine. Yet, you guys constantly mistate what I mean, you say because I THINK so, I think you must follow my deduction. I never said ANY of these things.

I am offering an opinion in support of a different view than you, yet you ban me from expressing my view truthfully on What I THINK should be called God, and argue with me.

I never denied God said he was male, I was giving my interpretation of the same Holy Book you guys read. I never claimed any of it was True, it is just my thoughts on the subject.

Did it preform procreation? Nope. It is not the a Father in any conventional term. He is our Creator. Just because he created us, does not make it a father or a he in any sense.
In any sense?

The seed comes forth from the father, not the mother.

For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God." (1 Peter 1:23 NIV1984)

God has sent forth his spiritual life through his Word via the Holy Spirit and planted it in those who believe and they reproduce that life. And that life grows up in the image of the Father who planted it within us.

This is contrary to what is taught in science actually.

You have a right to your opinion, you have a responsibility to be polite while here.

Gen 1

4 God saw that the light was good, and he separated the light from the darkness. 5 God called the light “day,†and the darkness he called “night.†And there was evening, and there was morning —the first day.

Kinda hard when people are calling me a troll when I am honestly stating MY opinion.

If I believed in God, as described in the Bible, I would refer to Him as It, simply because I think you need the biological bodyparts to define your self as male or female.

Again, just because the Book says so, doesn't mean the writers were right. God has no knowable biological parts, therefore we can't tell if he( and I say he because I can't say IT) is a male or female, just because he acts that way, does not mean at all that he is a he.
