Bible Study good Friday

Thursday is not a Friday...it is a separate day.
Friday is not a Saturday...it too is a separate day.
Sunday is not a Saturday...it is a separate day.

Friday (even if it is a small amount of that day) is counted as a single day.

Saturday is a day all unto itself. (no one argues that day at least)

Sunday...it is a different day than Saturday or Sunday. Even if it was only a very small portion of that day it was still a different day.

When discussing a bowl of fruit...
Bananas, grapes, and oranges are three fruits that might fill a bowl of fruit. They may all be fruit but they are all distinct from the others. And in Jewish thought there are three types of fruit in that bowl of fruit. Even if the bowl only contains a segment from an orange, a whole banana, and a single grape...it is a bowl of three fruits.

There are laws (commandments) of God that were especially written just for the Hebrews pertaining to the rituals of the Temple, sacrifices, festivals, Torah, Kohanim and Levites, the King and the Nazarite.

Then there are the existing moral laws (commandments) for all of us to still follow as in prayers and blessings, love and brotherhood. The poor and unfortunate, treatment of the Gentiles, Marriage, divorce and family. Forbidden sexual relations, business practices, employees and servants. Vows, oaths, swearing, Court and Judicial procedures. Injuries and damages, property and property rights, criminal laws. Prophecy, idolatry and all its practices as the moral laws (commandments) keep us in line with the will of God.

All of these are listed within the 613 Levitical laws. When you read all of them some of them sound stupid, but all have their purpose.

Actually, they would laugh at anyone who didn’t understand that three days and three nights wasn’t an “expression” or slang term for three consecutive days, just as we would laugh at someone who didn’t understand the expression we use such as
“I worked a full week”, meaning five 8 hour days, not 7 days for 24 hours a day.


If you told someone you worked a full week and they asked how you could possibly work 168 straight hours for 7 days, you would probably laugh.



Then they found an Egyptian in the field, and brought him to David; and they gave him bread and he ate, and they let him drink water. And they gave him a piece of a cake of figs and two clusters of raisins. So when he had eaten, his strength came back to him; for he had eaten no bread nor drunk water for three days and three nights. Then David said to him, “To whom do you belong, and where are you from?”
And he said, “I am a young man from Egypt, servant of an Amalekite; and my master left me behind, because three days ago I fell sick. 1 Samuel 30:11-13

The days of the week change, but yet the 14th 15th and 16th still remains on the same day of the week as given in the scriptures. Just like the calendar I posted you see the present, but yet the past.

You missed the point...

I'll walk this through very slowly. You may disagree, but youll only be wrong from a biblical view.

Exodus 12:6. They kill the passover on the 14th at sundown.
12:8, they will eat the meat the "same night".

Generally, a Jewish day starts with night. However, the day of the 14th also shares the night of the 15th. But it's not just the 14th that this occurs. It happens every festival where an offering is made.

I know you will not agree. You don't have to. However, the sign wasn't proclaimed to the gentiles. Instead, it was proclaimed to the Jews and honestly, every Jew since the time of Moses to this very day counts the night of the 15th as the night of the 14th.

Hence, you have three days (14, 15, 16) and you have 3 nights (14, 15, 16).

So you see, you can understand it the way you currently do and I'm honestly fine with that... It makes since. But from a biblical perspective, the night of the 15th is also the night of the 14th because that's what scripture describes and its how even Moses viewed it. So I think it should be considered.

So the order of the day following the night is reversed one day so you end up with one evening counting twice.

Correct. The night of the 15th is ALSO counted as the night of the 14th.

This is so the Passover Lamb can be eaten the "Same" day.

Otherwise you have the passover being eaten on a "different" day.

Oops, I said that wrong. The name of the days of the weeks never change, but the numbering of the days of the week change, Example: it could be Tuesday the 21st of March, but next year the 21st of March is on a different day.

It's like the calendar I posted. Not sure what year this calendar is, but if you look at the Nissan 14th it is a Friday according to Exodus 12:6, but yet this calendar year has it being April the 19th which is Friday. So, no matter what year it is the 14th, 15th and 16th still remains as a Friday, Saturday and Sunday to keep it lined up with the scriptures.

Exodus 12:6 And ye shall keep it up until the fourteenth day of the same month: and the whole assembly of the congregation of Israel shall kill it in the evening. 7 And they shall take of the blood, and strike it on the two side posts and on the upper door post of the houses, wherein they shall eat it. 8 And they shall eat the flesh in that night, roast with fire, and unleavened bread; and with bitter herbs they shall eat it.

The way I read this is that they were told to kill their lambs in the evening and after putting the blood on the doorpost they were told to roast it with fire which would had taken at the least 2-3 hours to roast it through completely over an opened fire. If they were told to cook it in the evening I would only think it would be after sunset when it was fully cooked as there was to be no rawness in it. This may be why the Jews later on counted the 14th twice.

Another note of interest that I explained way back in post #203, in the days before the exodus there was only the Noahic Laws which excluded any sabbath commandment. That commandment for sabbath was given to Moses on Mt Sinai after the exodus as Moses gave instructions for them. Many Jews just like many Christians knew nothing about the Noahic Laws after the flood.

Hi SB,
I was on another thread with a member asking about common usage of terms. JLB brought up the point about how one might say they worked a whole week -- but meaning just 5 days.

Here in Italy if it's a Monday and you plan to meet someone next Monday, it's counted as 8 days --- not seven. They say: See you in 8 days.

Could you please explain again how ONE DAY could have TWO NIGHTS?? Even using Jewish days/nights....I don't understand this.

Don't think in terms of 24 hrs = a day. Days are slippery.
A "day" ended at sundown. Night was the start of a new "day".

The Passover lamb was prepared at the end of the " day" (14th). With night being the start of a new "day" (15th).
Moses said to eat the lamb the same "day" it was prepared (14th).
If you stick to ridged thinking, it's impossible since it was prepared at twilight, the end of the day.
As a result, the 14th extends and shares the same space as the night of the 15th.

Sounds crazy, but it's how the Jews have thought since Moses wrote it.

I'm not up for arguing or defending it. It is what it is. People either accept it or they don't. Most won't.

Difficult to accept something you don't understand.
I even understand the Trinity somewhat.
