Let him that is without sin cast the first stone.

read the pre trib bashing that post tribers seem to live on.. sad

just one question? about the hal bashing. When did the Jew's stop waiting for their messiah? If I remember right they crucified Jesus and thus are still waiting for the messiah.. Looks like Hal got that one right. I would say the basher of the Hal artical needs to learn a little history.:chin

off topic, been awhile since i posted here. Jason is the a pic of you little one "beautiful"

Huh?

Since Jesus.... when has there been? a prophet of God?.. that bible is the "word" of God. we as sinners just try to interpret it the best we can, some right, some wrong, some way out in left field. Some of the left fielders seem to frequent this site quite often.:o

ok pre-tribbers i dont expect you to change but at least consider this fraud.

yes people arent perfect and make mistakes but would you let your pastor do this now would you. that is divorce 4 times. im sorry but leadership has a price you are held to a higher standard.

he also says this.

Having read "The Late Great Planet Earth" back in the 70s, I can assure you it was powerful stuff. We all believed Christ would return at any minute because Hal Lindsey made eschatology easy to understand:

  1. Fig tree = Israel;
  2. Israel reborn;
  3. Israel threatened with annihilation;
  4. Jesus comes back with the armies of heaven to save her.

Oh, and between points 2 and 4 the church is raptured.

My professors at the Christian college I attended actually used a phrase to describe those of us who were always "looking up" as though the rapture could happen at any second:

"Too heavenly minded to be any earthly good."

Now that I see how much time I wasted believing Hal Lindsey instead of Jesus Christ, I see how right they were.

Oh, and I leave you all with this snippet from your link, Jason:

In an interview that appeared in the April 15, 1977 issue of Christianity Today, Ward Gasque asked Lindsey about his infamous “generation†quotation:

“But what if you’re wrong?†Lindsey replied: “Well, there’s just a split second’s difference between a hero and a bum. I didn’t ask to be a hero, but I guess I have become one in the Christian community. So I accept it. But if I’m wrong about this, I guess I’ll become a bum.â€[3]

This was Lindsey’s assessment of himself. He set the standard for his own work. The 1980s came and went without his end-time scenario coming to pass. This should have made him a “bum†and led to the end of his prophecy career. It didn’t happen. So why is his latest claim that “we are very near the final climactic events that end with the Second Coming of Christâ taken seriously by anyone?

freeway, even make dakes commentary disagree with hal. the problem for you and us what if we are wrong? its been 60 plus years. surely the physical signs would have increased , but they havent.

i am by no means a preterist but its of a concern when members of my church are making that same mistake. i have heard it myself.

this middle east upheavel started it all over again.does it make sense to say this to apostles in acts

its not for you to know the times or seasons but the father in heaven..

and then tell john to write the times of things them not know it as well. surely jesus didnt contradict himself if the fig tree was isreals return.

they would have know that too.

well i will comment on what the jews do, as well i am one and talk to them alot. they arent looking for the messiah as they used to. they are looking for ben david, ben joseph isnt taught anymore. in the days of the lord first appearence.

ben jospeh and ben david were taught as the two ways the hamashiach would come. we are having those debates not the jews.(of the ben david and ben jospeh have come)

and yes freeway. that is my grandaughter.

Well Hal's record is intact;100 % error.
But we can give him credit for the final dismantling of DF . When he published, and very successfully at that, the notion of 'signs' pointing to the rapture, he inflicted a wound that would never heal. The 'Parenthetical Church Age' has been slowly bleeding to death since.

And that a 'good thing'.

The book stores were full of 'em in the 70-80. Most have now figured out not to put 'dates' but to skirt specifics just as the newspaper horoscopes.

I also started reading Hal Lindsey stuff back when. And just about every book available on the general subject matter since.

Gave up on the entirety of same a decade or 2 ago now.

Why?

Because most of it is sensationalist baloney.
It is purposefully designed to invoke fear and sell books. Nothing more than that.

In fact after realizing the above I decided to quit being a pawn of the sensationalist book sellers, particularly of the Dave Hunt variety. Always blaming the 'other people' like the Catholics for example.

It's just fear mongering, mind manipulations of various forms. And for the writers, financial security. A very big 'worldly' incentive.

Even the whole trib/mil stuff I've largely abandoned as they are really just tools of segmentations and divisions, to which I seek to have no portion of. Not interested.

I've also met and interchanged information with scores of individuals who believe they have cracked the codes of Revelation, and anyone who disagrees with them are, well in short, damned.

Yeah, they too are just victims of their own internal darkness.

The call of Christ is much simpler. Love your neighbors as yourself. It's pretty easy. God has placed no 'limits' on this particular activity. In fact that's what we are all called 'to do.' Pretty simple really.

I've also had a pretty good taste of this latter rain along the line of fact above, you know, loving our neighbors.

Joel 2:28

And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions:

Acts 2:17

And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams:

So, ya wanna hear an end times prophesy?

Love your neighbors as yourself.

You will do well by doing this. And God will not be disappointed in you. In fact when you 'do this' it is GOD DWELLING in YOU.

Surprised? Don't be. It's a fact.

1 John 4:12

No man hath seen God at any time. If we love one another, God dwelleth in us, and his love is perfected in us.

1 John 4:16

And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us.
God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him.

Does that appeal to you? It did to me. That is how God reached me and also how He returned to me.

Put away your childish fears. Fear is from the darkness. Wanna hear another prophecy?

Darkness will be dispelled. That is the other side of Revelation.

In the meantime you are all called to share in His Spirit.

Take advantage of the opportunity while you are here.

enjoy!

Hal Lindsey is the reason why I rarely get into discussions regarding eschatology. Like so many other young kids in the '70's, I was truly frightened by Lindsey...I really did think that he had it all figured out. Then, I began to see both him and Harold Camping go down the same path and make the same kinds of mistakes.

As of now, I honestly cannot see why any Christian gives him any sort of credibility. Do people not remember that at one time God required that any prophet who spoke in the name of the Lord and was wrong was put to death? Not that I want to stone Lindsey or Camping...but we should at least realize the magnitude of their sin before God and not listen to them anymore.

:nono2 damned for not believing as the pretribber does?really? i know i will get looks but if these do that type of things then i will remind that you didnt die for me and also salvation isnt hinged on what little is told to us on eschatology.

With so many false preachers out there, perverting the truth and gathering followers of the feel good social gospel, why are you picking on someone who preaches Christ crucified, risen and coming again?

Christ admonished his disciples who bashed someone who was not of them, but preaching Christ. He told us all then that God's Word does not return to Him void.

I think you either believe one way or another, and you need to quite bashing the other side. What anyone believes about the rapture or second coming has nothing to do with salvation. Once the lines have been drawn, quit shooting across them is what I suggest.

:study Get into God's Word more. I would hope there's more reading of the Bible for study than there is time here bashing other Christians doing their best. (Just because Hal Lindsey's best doesn't come up to your standards is no reason to bash him. Yes, he's made mistakes and admitted them, but he is on media proclaiming Christ. Forging ahead in spite of his mistakes.)

May God bless His Word. And shame on you Christians who seek to destroy others.

ok. the idea of 1948 as a fig tree thing per what i have been told wasnt even around till hal said that. so if hal is wrong then they are of today going to fall flat. in fact i have hardly ever listen to hal. i watched him a few times. but that its its his influecenced pastors that have told me his stuff in parts. no dates.

i tried to show you and your kind about the fig tree and how it couldnt be isreal's return

btw there are way more others that allude to a return that i know in the bible from my simple reading.hal is a false prophet. show me where we shouldnt warn the church of liars and false prophets.

who says that? i didnt see he couldnt be forgiven, just that i have doubts of his sincerity in repentance? why. jim baker ring a bell? he was out of spot light for years and came back slowly. he didnt just say opps, oh well im sorry and keep going. its NOT ALL ABOUT his charachter here.its about if he is wrong then you all are wrong. if he was in sin in his statements on prophetic then what makes you think that he is right now?

the bible ? i check myself alot. that is the reason i went from hard core pretribber to what i am now. thanks to the challanges presented by reba, hitch and stormcrow.

i have a commentary by dake and he does it the way i would have said it when i was a pretribber. the fig tree symobolises his nearness not isreal.

and in context that does look that way.

False prophets like Lindsey and Camping are doing a great deal of damage to folks. They prey on weaker souls who then turn around and send in money to them.

Do they bandy Christ's name around...of course they do! Jesus said that false prophets would prophesy in His name...Lindsey and Camping are living proof of His words.

Why defend them, when they are wolves amongst the sheep?

Those who set themselves up to be preachers, teachers, prophets are judge at a higher standard because they also have a much greater capacity to do real harm to real folks.

Believe me, as someone who was once lead astray by a false teacher, I can't emphasize enough how bad it is for someone, how much of a shipwreck to one's faith it is, to be suckered in by these types. At least I didn't lose any money to the false teacher leading me astray, but it was still a horrible time to go through when I realized that I had been drawn in by a slick false teacher who quoted Scriptures for every single thing he did. Yep...well, Satan can quote the Bible pretty well himself, as we saw when he tried to tempt our Lord.

Muslims take a lot of flack because they don't speak out enough against the false prophets of their own religion. However, we as Christians get hammered if we point out a false prophet of our own and say..."Don't listen to this one."
