How do you pray?

Some people believe that if we do not say exactly the right things,or pray in the right position,God will not hear or answer our prayer. This is not biblical. 1John 5:14-15Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. 15 And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we have asked of Him.God answers prayer requests based on whether they are asked according to His will and in the name of Jesus.God is more interested in the content of our hearts than the eloquence of our words.I pray sitting, standing, walking down a hall, sitting behind the wheel of my car. :)

Matthew 6
5 “And when you pray, you shall not be like the hypocrites. For they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the corners of the streets, that they may be seen by men. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward.
6 But you, when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly.
7 And when you pray, do not use vain repetitions as the heathen do. For they think that they will be heard for their many words.

8 “Therefore do not be like them. For your Father knows the things you have need of before you ask Him.
9 In this manner, therefore, pray:

Our Father in heaven,
Hallowed be Your name.
10 Your kingdom come.
Your will be done
On earth as it is in heaven.
11 Give us this day our daily bread.
12 And forgive us our debts,
As we forgive our debtors.
13 And do not lead us into temptation,
But deliver us from the evil one.
For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.

A lot of times this is all I pray.

We are not to pray for our own glory.
Matthew 6:5 And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men.
Matthew 6:6 But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.
Matthew 6:7. But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.

We are to pray always.
Luke 18:1 And he spake a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not to faint;
Luke 21:36. Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man.

Does this mean God would have us lock ourselves on our knees in a closet with the door closed 24/7? No but we are to have a heart of prayer all the time seeking God.

If I see someone who is in jeopardy I instantly pray for them.Sometimes someone is in so much distress that the words will not come out. Then the Holy Spirit takes over.

Ms Kathi:

Paul indeed said in 1 Thess. 5: "Pray without ceasing" (which it sounds like is what you try to do; I'm sure your eyes are not closed when you are driving your car... :) )

Blessings.

18 praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit... - Eph 6:18

17 pray without ceasing... - 1 Thess 5:17

I ask the Lord to form in me a "praying spirit" that prays throughout each day.

Good verses; Philippians 4 also refers to the holy habit of prayer.

Blessings.

Does it matter whether one's eyes are closed or not? Let's look at Jesus' example.

Matthew 14:
19 And he commanded the multitude to sit down on the grass, and took the five loaves, and the two fishes, and looking up to heaven, he blessed, and brake, and gave the loaves to his disciples, and the disciples to the multitude.

Mark 7:
32 And they bring unto him one that was deaf, and had an impediment in his speech; and they beseech him to put his hand upon him.
33 And he took him aside from the multitude, and put his fingers into his ears, and he spit, and touched his tongue;
34 And looking up to heaven, he sighed, and saith unto him, Ephphatha, that is, Be opened.
35 And straightway his ears were opened, and the string of his tongue was loosed, and he spake plain.

No it does not matter if your eyes are closed or open.
