As for piercings, I've had my ears pierced, repierced and repierced again, but my right ear will always seem to get "weepy" and then, when I take out the rings to clear it up, the hole quickly heals over. So, I don't wear pierced earrings.... which is a shame for me...

It's true that a lot of women do feel that they are, or would be, missing out on something rather special and nice, if they didn't attempt to have - and keep - pierced ears.

I think many women who currently don't wear earrings have in the past made a concerted effort with a pair or more of holes.

(The oblique comparison to tatts: the difference being that with ink, once wrist/ankle is done, it's settled, but pierced holes often need to be maintained and kept open, sometimes involving quite a bit of work, really.)

Not unusually, getting an ear piercing sometimes ends up being a sort of rite of passage, like for a milestone birthday, a long talked about stage of life, a longstanding gift offer that the guy doesn't want to refuse, etc.

(In some ways a tat can be a rite of passage, too.)

I think people (girls especially) are getting pierced younger nowdays, but overall there's less expectation that one would get their ears pierced.

I believe peircings, much like tattoos can become an addiction.
Once again, dealing with something which I have done in the past.... piercings in both ears...... since Christ, would not recommend.

Where does one define the line between acceptable and problematic? And for whom?

Interesing questions! so do you yourself have any clarity as to why objectively (as opposed to subjective matters of taste) having both ears pierced might seem problematic or 'unacceptable'?

(As it happens, a number of guys on here wear or have worn earrings, including myself, and [MENTION=93075]Matthew G[/MENTION] . I haven't worn mine lately, as it happens, though it's not for 'religious' reasons that I don't. I think [MENTION=93075]Matthew G[/MENTION] 's wife likes them, which might be part of the reason why he wears his, as I recall what was posted.)

A few posts back there was some discussion with @Dave about the bondservant aspect of male ear piercing.

I guess some of my argument against would fall in line with [MENTION=93656]Dave[/MENTION], although I'm not sure that the Bible takes much time to detail Male's wearing jewelry outside the aforementioned bondservant aspect.
I would also argue, that historically speaking, the majority of ear jewelry belonged to women. Even the Bible's references to jewelry always tend to be directed towards women. This implies that Women were typically the ones to wear the jewelry and are restricted in how they adorn themselves, or that the Bible is simply silent on Men wearing jewelry. There are numerous instances in which God instructs women on how they should adorn themselves as pertaining to jewelry, 1 Timothy 2:9, 1 Peter 3. Either there is a double standard for men and women pertaining to jewelry, or the same rules would apply to both.

The other argument I would make is to ask why pierce your ears? I cannot come up with an answer that ultimately doesn't boil down to, 'because I want to'?
Even though Matthew G's wife likes his, I still don't know that it's a reason that doesn't satisfy the flesh moreso than any productive reason? But kudo's to you Matthew G.... happy wife, happy life!

@pdpilgrim78 What do you think of rings on finger if not married. I own two rings, for right hand. I'm an artist. I actually have two lines in my 3rd album that says..

i've paid dues and i wear two rings
to compliment my brain that is moving

@Dave : I don't ultimately see any inherent difference between rings for the finger or rings for the ears, really.

Why, in Ezekiel 16.12 the Lord is even recorded as giving Zion a nose ring!

I know many men who wear rings, whether they be class rings or just a simple ring for adornement. Typically I don't notice it unless they specifically point it out, or unless is ridiculously gawdy, and that is where I find the issue. Those who wear rings that mean something to them, whether it be in remembrance of a sports achievement, a gift from someone special, or a family memento, I have no problem. If the intent is to draw attention to yourself? Therein lies the underlying issue.
I take the same stance with earrings for the record, I have never made an issue of it as I don't see it as a salvation issue, with the exception being, if the intent is to bring attention to yourself.
I personally have a class ring which has turned into one of my best dust catchers! I can't honestly remember the last time I had on my hand. I have a wedding band, and that is the only jewelry I wear.
Ironically enough, speaking of catching the attention of someone with jewelry..... if I take my wedding band off for whatever reason (working around the house) that is the only time it draws the attention of my wife! She never glances at my hand when it's on, but if I take it off, she notices right away!
Does this contradict my argument? lol

To refer to the gold/silver distinction, I'm sure there are various views and personal tastes in the gold / silver thing. But it's interesting that, in the US Navy, the gold / silver ear stud distinction is specifically to distinguish officers from enlisted women:

Women. One earring per ear (centered on earlobe) may be worn while in uniform. Earrings shall be 4mm - 6mm ball (approximately 1/8 - 1/4 inch), plain with shiny or brushed matte finish, screw on or with posts. Gold for officers/CPOs, and silver for enlisted personnel. Small single pearl earrings are authorized for wear with Dinner and Formal Dress uniforms. (qu. navyformoms dot com / persnet dot navy dot mil )

I agree Farouk, in Jesus' telling of the prodigal son, the father places a ring on the sons finger. So it's not as if I'm anti ring period! That placement of the ring was the completion of the redemption story, placing the son back into his inheritance.

But if you're rocking the Mr T bling bling...... different story
