@Deborah13 :@farouk , I think so but I really don't know how I would have felt about it then. I don't think it's a big deal. But where I live, in those days, no males had earrings that I know of.(So would you have let him have it done if he had wanted it when he was younger, maybe?)
You are quite right; it's not a big deal at all for a young man to have it done. (In theory once they reach 18 they don't need parental permission anyway, although it's kind of nice to know beforehand.)
You said you think you would likely have let him. I think maybe the key is partly in what you said earlier about having used a sterile needle with yours and your daughters': an under 18 young man that is doing it behind the parent's back, so to speak, might not be careful about a sterile needle. And I guess if he's likely to do it anyway, best to let him do it, only to make sure it's in a clean and sterile way, I suppose.
(All sorts of aspects to this subject, isn't there?)
