How many holes do you have pierced in your ears?

Dave,
I know many men who wear rings, whether they be class rings or just a simple ring for adornement. Typically I don't notice it unless they specifically point it out, or unless is ridiculously gawdy, and that is where I find the issue. Those who wear rings that mean something to them, whether it be in remembrance of a sports achievement, a gift from someone special, or a family memento, I have no problem. If the intent is to draw attention to yourself? Therein lies the underlying issue.
I take the same stance with earrings for the record, I have never made an issue of it as I don't see it as a salvation issue, with the exception being, if the intent is to bring attention to yourself.
I personally have a class ring which has turned into one of my best dust catchers! I can't honestly remember the last time I had on my hand. I have a wedding band, and that is the only jewelry I wear.
Ironically enough, speaking of catching the attention of someone with jewelry..... if I take my wedding band off for whatever reason (working around the house) that is the only time it draws the attention of my wife! She never glances at my hand when it's on, but if I take it off, she notices right away!
Does this contradict my argument? lol

Why would she care. You're doing what you can to keep it clean or not lose it.

The point was also that in the US Navy silver pierced studs and gold ones are one of the specific dress code means of distinguishing between women who are commissioned and those who are not.

When a woman in the navy gets a commission it must be a meaningful rite of passage when in uniform to insert the gold studs into her earlobes for the first time, in the place of the silver ones.

To respond specifically to this part of your post:

I guess that a lot of Christians would not necessarily internalize the question at such a theoretical level, really. I guess also the same question could be asked of Christian women also. But I reckon also that anyone who thinks that Christian women — godly and modest ones — are going to stop piercing their ears and wearing earrings until they have internalized such theories, is likely to be mistaken.

But I agree that the bondservant doctrine (pointing to God's perfect Servant Who was obedient unto death) has little to do with the contemporary custom of ear piercing. It's just that the very existence of the Old Testament symbolism of bonsdervant ear piercing makes it rather hard to criticize the practice per se.

If I see my old navy reservist coworker that retired at the same rank Im at. I will ask him for the navy reg. using ehow may be off. the other services do have dress uniforms and formal dinners. I don't see why the airforce nor army don't have the same regs.

I think people (girls especially) are getting pierced younger nowdays, but overall there's less expectation that one would get their ears pierced.

@pdpilgrim78 : FYI: Not that I necessarily advocate it, but among hundreds of millions of Hispanic people is it in fact the custom for nurses on a maternity ward to pierce all the girls' ears, unless the parents specifically opt out their daughters. The practice is kind of integral to many people's culture.
