How many holes do you have pierced in your ears?

How many pierced holes in your ears?

Okay folks; so 100 posts on this thread so far.

It's a slightly lighthearted thread, I guess, but it seems to have proven popular... :)

God's gift:

Ty for your vote and comment. In some countries, girls are almost 'born' with their ear piercings acquired in infancy; maybe it's this way in your country, too?

Blessings.

My wife had our daughters ears pierced when she was 6 months old. I was skeptical at first, but they look good and she has never bothered with them.

I guess it's a kind of milestone experience, really.

Of course, young children don't have the choice, one way or another; but it seems to me that with young women of a more responsible age it's the second set of holes that are likely to be their choice, for definite (if this makes some sense?)

It was definitely a bonding experience for my wife and my mother. My opinion was to wait until she could make the decision herself, but when pressed to make a decision on age I said 10. Apparently that was laughably unreasonable and they proceeded as planned. But let me say that the morning of, my wife came to me and said that if I really didn't want her to get it done then she wouldn't. So I can not say that it was done without my approval.

As for a second set ... I don't think I'd be ok with that. At least not while she's under my roof. She's only 18 months old so we have a while for that.

Well, you must know of course about your own household, but it kind of goes back to your idea of a young lady making a decision herself. These days, it's often the second holes that are really the young lady's decision.

Also, for many if not most teen girls, second holes have become a sort of expected standard.

But, again, you must know your own household; but you won't be too surprised 'if' (rather than 'when') such an issue is raised in a few years' time?

I don't have any piercings, but don't have any problems with people that do. When I was a teenager the only place to get one in the small town I grew up in was at the beauty parlor. Took some of the thrill out of it for me. I was not going to put myself into a position to cry in front of a bunch of old ladies. And I was a real wuss as a kid, I would have cried.

Bfnaught:

PS: Sounds like you did consider getting at least one of your ears done, at one stage?

My mother is very liberal minded. She has many piercings and tattoos. She sort of encouraged me to get one. She thought it would make me stand out. I was very shy and introverted and was afraid it would make me stand out. I considered it as far as having to verbalized my opinion. It wasn't something I seriously thought about.

Well, this is interesting, but it just goes to show that it's quite possible for the younger generation to have more conservative tastes than the generation above.

What I reckon also it must have taught you, even while you have developed your own rather conservative tastes in these areas, is for you to be quite accustomed to the idea that some women - of which your dear mother is an example - wish to be multipierced and tattooed, must it not?

(After all, some women prefer more than 2 holes in each earlobe, and in any case, in North America, 60% of tattoos are now received by women.)

Blessings.

Is this per ear? In that case one in each. That are probably closed by now because I'm not girly enough to bother with earrings.

PS: Pigeon88: I guess that the minimalist nothing-on-earlobes is regarded as cool, too, and is preferred by some folk, right? Some ppl like to keep the holes for special occasions, too.

Yeah I'll wear them on special occasions. But normally they are not my thing.

Pigeon88: Depends on the occasion, for a lot of ppl, anyway. But some folk can't bear the thought of their earlobes being bare! For others, having and keeping them pierced through once or more, is more of a need to reserve them for those special occasions, isn't it? Blessings.

PS: Bfnaught: I saw what you said; yes, men need to learn to respect certain things that women reasonably expect to do, and this is one of them! (Although these days the tattoo has been added to the list, as well, in many case, but for over-18s only, usually). Blessings.

The only way I would have a hole in my ear is if shrapnel had put one there, and it never came close to my head (which may be a surprise to those who gaze in wonderment at what I post on these forums).

..The nice simple diamond looks good on most people

..

Hi reba: a while back you said this; I was re-reading what you said.

So do you think that the nice simple diamond looks good on most women only? or do you think that it can look okay on some men, too?

Blessings.

Maybe. I know she used to have piercings in her ears, a long time ago. They're closed up now. But I think she said she wouldn't get anymore. Not sure why.

PS questdriven:

You know, for some people ear piercings are I suppose merely a phase that they go through at a certain stage of their lives; when it passes, they lose interest.

For others, getting - and keeping - a pair or two of holes would be seen by them as a necessity for them to have a chosen, appropriately classy look for special occasions.

Kind of varies, a lot, right?

Blessings.

reba:

Well, thank-you; yes, it's nice to be able to acknowledge honestly that it can enhance a strong, dark, manly guy if he pierces (one?) ear with a diamond.

(And why should you be heading for trouble because of your honesty? :) )

Blessings.
