I have been reading as much as I can but the problem is I am not a very good reader. I also can only read a little before my brains is exhausted from it. I also am not good at retaining information, for example I read a certain chapter and verse. I would not be able to recall it from memory later. It doesn't stop me from trying but..

Could it be that music, movies and art are euqally powerful for communicating with Jesus?

The KJV could actually be part of the problem. It is a good version but it uses words that aren't used anymore and words whose meanings have changed. The ESV is in modern English that is much easier to understand. Consider it anyway.
Sure thing, i'll update it. Do you have a link or source by chance?

As WIP shared, here is a link where you can listen: https://www.biblegateway.com/resources/audio/. You just need to select the version, and there are many to choose from.

For reading:

https://www.biblestudytools.com/esv/

https://www.sermoncentral.com/bible/english-standard-version-esv/

If you use a smartphone or tablet, look for an app, such as Bible.is, where you can listen to many different versions, including the ESV. The ESV is pretty standard these days, so finding an app for it or finding it online is really easy. If you would like any other links, let me know and I'll search some more.

Oh well.

I really got into the Bible with the old first RSV NT printing.

The New printing RSV was considered terrible at the time. Virgin had been replaced with young woman.

The ESV, I understand, (you hear a lot) is taken from the 1971 version of RSV.

If I remember my printing used the old RSV NT and the Later OT.

People thought I was from some other planet because of some first RSV words.

I switched to KJV and felt right at home.

I would have not brought this up had you not imported which Bible into this thread.

I am no expert.

I took a Greek class that agreed totally with the denomination that taught it. Another denomination Greek Class would have agreed with their beliefs.

I think the Holy Spirit is able to take care of the different versions.

stevenb, I agree with Free here. The KJV is written in an old Early Modern English that was spoken in England in the 16th century and can be a little difficult to understand as it is quite different from contemporary English that we speak and read today. The ESV or English Standard Version is a contemporary or modern English translation and is considered a very easy translation to read and understand and is particularly popular for beginner Bible readers.

I'm too new to answer this, but I think that if the Lord were to give me something i shouldn't fear using it in his name otherwise it would be wasted.
You are a humble, modest individual Steven, best to you sir, If I can ever answer any Bible questions for you, please feel free to ask, I will do my utmost to help you find the answer. Bob

Christian people are to have working knowledge of Gods word. Second Timothy chapter 2, study to shew yourself approved. Colossians, increase in knowledge of God. Christian people keep studying the bible. Keep growing in God's word. A doctor goes back to school once in while to keep up in medicine and science. Doctors don't stop learning. Get the picture. Satan is arrogant and stupid. He thinks he's smarter than God. Satan thinks he doesn't have to listen to God. Get the picture. Christian people live by humility.

17. Let the elders that rule well be counted worthy of double honour, especially they who labour in the word and doctrine.

The church does have levels of service. Not everyone does the same thing. I am not promoting ignorance, but I am just pointing out that even among elders there are diverse duties.

Yes i've seen a lot other members saying to pray for better understanding, I felt like maybe that's what I was doing as I asked this. Thanks everyone for your response.

Also i'm reading KJV
Hi Stevenb
Welcome to the forum.
Guess I'm a bit late!

I agree with Free about the KJV.
It's OK to use but it's like you have to translate it FIRST and THEN understand what you're reading.
IOW, it's twice the work.
Try one of the modern english bibles.
The ESV is good, I also would recommend the NLT or the NIV.

Personally I use the NASB, but that's not easy to understand either.
Don 't rush yourself. All you h ave to do is love God.
Seek first the Kingdom of God and all these things will be given to you.

Please remember that in the Question and Answer Forum you can only reply to the OP.
Thanks.
Remember the OP
Has:
“Could it be that music, movies and art are euqally powerful for communicating with Jesus?”

That extends the reading comprehension to:
Music
Art
Movies
and by extension Romans 1:20 LOL
Maybe even spiritual gifts

No. In Questions and Answers you can only address the peson that STARTED the OP.
(I didn't mean the TOPIC of the OP).

Because it's not a debate forum...

Just by my experience, I really struggled back in high school when trying to put the bible together. It was rather discouraging - especially at that time when I was questioning what I believed. But as an adult, I've definitely developed a better mindset of finding answers. Self-honesty. Knowing what books to read. Having discussions with others (such as this website forum). Patience is definitely a virtue.

One answer you had on this thread spoke of the purpose of being a good student in the scriptures. ( 2 Timothy 2:15.)

Other answers are left free, advising you to do certain things, ( bible versions) before you can find out for yourself. ( God calls, not man, and the devil gets in the way of that calling of the Lord.)

Here is a thought for you then, from your own questioning. Is the scripture designed to be understood by the brain, or all understanding comes from the Spirit of God ?

Again, answers in the thread talked about the brain, but what talked about the Spirit, as is the only way we are testified, understanding/belief, comes from ?

1 Corinthians 2:9 But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.
10 But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God.
11 For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God.
12 Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God.

It is true that the Holy Ghost brings all things to remembrance. What was brought to our remembrance was all that Jesus spoke to us, for belief in Him.

But, if we want to remember where understanding comes from, and if it is limited, only in peoples minds, understanding is doing the right ways of the Lord, no understanding is when we do not do them, but talk instead on forums is the way people understand. .

Psalm 111:10 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: a good understanding have all they that do his commandments: his praise endureth for ever.

Jeremiah 8:9 The wise men are ashamed, they are dismayed and taken: lo, they have rejected the word of the Lord; and what wisdom is in them?

Luke 1:3 It seemed good to me also, having had perfect understanding of all things from the very first, to write unto thee in order, most excellent Theophilus,

1 John 3:18 My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth.
19 And hereby we know that we are of the truth, and shall assure our hearts before him.
20 For if our heart condemn us, God is greater than our heart, and knoweth all things.

When you speak of mind the modern and biblical understandings run sort of parallel.

The cerebral cortex seems to be the sub conscience (or even the above conscience). Latest brain scans show the cerebellum has more neurons than we thought, and a lot conscious thinking seems to happens there. Google search.

The carnal mind is mentioned in scripture and the mind of Christ in us. As a born again person we have a conflicting battle.

So as you listen to posters and read your Bible, IMHO try and sort out the area you are dealing with.

This does not even cover the heart (which is an added area).

The word became flesh.

My brother, a born again Christian, has problems when reading the bible due to understanding.
Some persons really need a bible study or some kind of help.
Some can manage on their own but it's not easy.
For some it answers questions, and for some it develops new questions.

The entrance of the words of Jesus Christ, gives light, ( where there is darkness in all) and it gives understanding to the simple. ( all are simple until given light and understanding by the words of Christ.)

Faith is the Spirit, ( gift of Jesus Christ/why He died to give us this.) which is God giving understanding and guidance in all things. ( no people are our councillors)

read these verses, and hear the Lord Gods thoughts. ( how to understand, be wise, and believe, they speak better than a persons personal understanding.)

Psalm 1:1 Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.
2 But his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.

Psalm 16:7 I will bless the Lord, who hath given me counsel: my reins also instruct me in the night seasons.

Psalm 73:24 Thou shalt guide me with thy counsel, and afterward receive me to glory.

Psalm 119:24 Thy testimonies also are my delight and my counselors.

Psalm 119:130 The entrance of thy words giveth light; it giveth understanding unto the simple.

Proverbs 1:5 A wise man will hear, and will increase learning; and a man of understanding shall attain unto wise counsels:

Proverbs 1:22 How long, ye simple ones, will ye love simplicity? and the scorners delight in their scorning, and fools hate knowledge?
23 Turn you at my reproof: behold, I will pour out my spirit unto you, I will make known my words unto you.
24 Because I have called, and ye refused; I have stretched out my hand, and no man regarded;
25 But ye have set at nought all my counsel, and would none of my reproof.

Proverbs 1:29 For that they hated knowledge, and did not choose the fear of the Lord:
30 They would none of my counsel: they despised all my reproof.

Proverbs 1:33 But whoso hearkeneth unto me shall dwell safely, and shall be quiet from fear of evil.

Proverbs 8:14 Counsel is mine, and sound wisdom: I am understanding; I have strength.

Proverbs 19:25 Smite a scorner, and the simple will beware: and reprove one that hath understanding, and he will understand knowledge.

Job 12:13 With him is wisdom and strength, he hath counsel and understanding.

Job 38:36 Who hath put wisdom in the inward parts? or who hath given understanding to the heart?

John 6:63 It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.
