In Today's News

It mostly seems to either go to allies, or to help prevent pandemics that could threaten the US. Its a centuries long tradition to buy influence around the world. Cheaper than fighting wars.

It buys us resentment for being so controlling, and also goes to those that hate us and pledge our destruction. Doesn't seem terribly bright.

That FL school shooting yesterday warrants some discussion. Yes a good officer stopped it, but that's likely to lull people into a false sense of security. Here are some of the problems:

1) the shooter is another former student. How'd he get in? How many schools still don't even restrict access?

2) Another school walk-out. Ok I get it, it's a really big anniversary. When does the practice end?

3) This shooter seems very undetermined to do harm, which is great. The story reads like only one bullet was fired, and the good officer took the shooter into custody "without resistance." Maybe if the officer hadn't been there the student would have continued so I don't want to downplay his role. It still needs to be realized that this is NOT an example of effective school defense policy!

4) The shooter seems very inexperienced, yet still was not deterred. No mention of other "school resource officers" in this school with 2,100 students, where we know no teachers are armed.

So no deterrence value, not nearly enough stopping power, no restricted entry to the school, and no effective plan. Piling desks in front of the door? C'mon, you remember how easily that stuff slides around on the floor.

This is an invitation to disaster. Still. This shooter basically wanted to get caught before doing much damage. That's not the same thing as effective defense.

Fortunately, he was a complete amateur. Note his statement, “Sorry. It doesn’t make it better, anyway.” He does not seem to have done any real planning, or practice. He seemed to be just copycatting what others did, without realizing that it wouldn't help him a bit.

After he shot the first student in the ankle, he realized his mistake, and surrendered.

Giving sociopath career criminals favors for testifying against others is not working very well.

Exactly. Not to take anything away from the Officer who acted bravely by rushing to the scene, but this is a very different situation. It underscores the problem spreading, like a virus.

Its mostly the bombing that creates resentment. That's not foreign aid. Medical care is usually appreciated.

Who would Jesus bomb?

Interesting that Syrians took to the streets in protest of our last missile strike. Did they know there were no civilian casualties, and we targeted chemical weapons production? If so does that mean Assad's loyalists like the idea of gassing his protestors to death? It's a scary thought, but their population is nothing like what it was before their civil war started.

We have never bombed Israel, yet they resent us horribly for our interference and attempted control over their sovereignty.
I would suggest they don't need our money, and that principle could be extended to a lot of other examples. "Buying influence" is WAY too much like lobbying / bribery. There are far better uses for money.

That's "justice." Courts don't have time to care about truth. They try to make decisions based on what evidence can be presented.

When a criminal testifies in a fashion they like, they accept it. When a criminal testifies in a fashion they don't like, like in his own defense, they try to discredit him. What's wrong with that? Clear bias is incompatible with justice?!?

The chemical attack on Douma was a success from their point of view. Rebel resistance was eliminated, and Syrian troops were able to move in and occupy the area within a few days.

It's a scary thought, but their population is nothing like what it was before their civil war started.

About 1/3 of the original population has fled Syria. Since they were against Assad, he doesn't want them back. The Turks are unhappy, and want Syrians in their territory to go home. Turkey is stronger than Syria militarily, and wants Assad to step down so Syrians will go away. Russian and Iranian protection is preventing a Turkish march on Damascus, so the Turks are contenting themselves with invading Kurdish territory in Syria.

The whole area is chaos.

So the answer to my question is "yes." Syrian Assad supporters actually like the idea of chemical warfare. And this includes Christians, presumably. How sickening!

US allowed Assad protestors to be run off or killed, and one would have to think at least some Assad loyalists aren't really loyal or supportive, merely cowering under tyranny.

Is that any worse than our betrayal of the Kurds?

Welcome to another edition of today's news. I'm sorry that it's rather late today but between going outside and getting my chores done I've had a rather busy day so far. Anyway, we begin today's news with another unfortunate and tragic death of an army veteran. Here's more on the story.

And also an Ohio woman who provided alcohol to an underage seventeen year old boy was arrested a couple of days ago and charged with involuntary manslaughter. Here's more.

And here's a follow up on the story I recently posted of a mother accidentally shooting her two year old daughter. Either way you look at it it's still really bad parenting in my book.

And apparently today is Earth Day (so happy Earth Day and don't forget to do your part by helping take care of God's beautiful planet) and this is how a simple idea turned into this global holiday.

And also here's just a reminder that after today Toys R Us gift cards will no longer be useful.

http://fox8.com/2018/04/21/toys-r-us-gift-cards-are-no-good-after-today/

Also, a couple was arrested after the body of a man that had been missing since April was discovered in their closet.

Finally in today's news we can end it upon a happy note as the Cleveland Indians beat the Baltimore Orioles four to nothing in yesterday's game. :woot

That's all for today's news and have a wonderful rest of the weekend. :) God's blessings on you.

I wouldn't make any presumptions about the Lord's people. We have no evidence that they feel anything other than agape. Many times those demonstrations are staged.

I really want to like this comment, the only trouble is I don't know what it's referring to since I missed this part of the conversation.

Post 331.

Okay thanks, I still don't understand it though lol

Hey guys, I have some rather sad news to start with. I haven't heard back from Jeff yet so unless this thread is moved to the lounge today, unfortunately this will be my last news report. :sad However, the weather thread has been saved and moved already so at least we'll (hopefully) always have that on here.

Well for what might be our last news report we don't have very much news. First of all in today's news here is a live video of the opening statements by accused murder and kidnapper Shawn Grate.

http://fox8.com/2018/04/23/opening-...n-trial-of-accused-serial-killer-shawn-grate/

And federal charges have been filed against a Kent State professor who has been under investigation as a supporter of ISIS. Here's more of the details.

http://fox8.com/2018/04/23/federal-charges-filed-against-kent-state-professor/

And also a shipwreck found in Lake Erie could nearly be two hundred years old. Here's more.

http://fox8.com/2018/04/23/shipwreck-found-in-lake-erie-could-be-nearly-200-years-old/

Also the man who was arrested at the end of last week appeared in court today on charges of his wife's bizarre disappearance.

http://fox8.com/2018/04/23/hartford-man-to-face-charges-in-wifes-bizarre-disappearance/

And the UK has another new little prince as Kate Middleton finally gave birth to a healthy baby boy. ( I knew it! Lol)

http://people.com/royals/three-cheers-prince-william-and-kate-middletons-third-royal-baby-is-here/

And what could be the final piece of news ever, (at least we end on a happy note) the Cleveland Indians beat the Baltimore Orioles with an astonishing ending score of seven to three!! Wow, this team really has been on fire lately!! :woot

http://fox8.com/2018/04/22/ramirez-hits-2-hrs-to-lift-kluber-indians-past-orioles-7-3/

That's all for today's news and hopefully this thread will still be around after tomorrow. I promise that I still will keep you updated with the Indians' scores on the sports thread. If this is in fact my final news report, I just wanted to say thank you for continuing to tune into it and God bless you all. :cross

Hey guys, a bit more news for you. Even though this thread is going to disappear along with the current events and politics tomorrow morning, that doesn't mean that it's going to be gone forever. There's a slim possibility that it might return within a week or so, so fingers crossed! :crossed
