Is “Stairway to Heaven†Appropriate for Church?

You all know the song “Stairway to Heaven.†If you eliminate the verse about “There’s a feeling I get when I look to west …†is this song appropriate for church? In other words, is it a song full of meaningful symbolism, or is it just sort of a cleverly written secular song?

Years ago I was in a church and several men were talking of playing a record backwards and finding a message on it. Well one of the fellows said that he had an old record of STAIRWAY TO HEAVEN we would just try it, so we did. The guy just turned the record backwards by his finger but he did it pretty good and to my surprise there were the words, PRAISE TO SATAN repeated about three times.

Some of it is real. Do the words, "Paul is dead, Paul is dead, Paul is dead" mean anything to anyone?

IMO, Stairway to Heaven has no place in a worship service. I prefer hymns, but other Godly people prefer all out rock. That's fine, but I draw the line where songs were written by a self-proclaimed occultist.

Also, Page's interest in the occult became a concern to those around him (he went as far as purchasing a mansion on the Loch Ness in Scotland that was once owned by renowned Satanist Aleister Crowley).

Gotta agree with Mike. I never heard anything about Led Zeplin being Christians. In fact, the opposite is probably true. I looked up the lyrics just in case I hadn't paid attention before, and I don't even see much in it that could be imagined to be Christian. Maybe it's not anything evil or bad, but it's not Christian.

In fact, the idea of having enough "gold" to buy a stairway to get to heaven is completely un-Christian. I don't have a problem with listening to most secular music, but it has no place in a worship service. There certainly is enough good Christian music, old and new, to fill up our services for a long time to come without resorting to non-Christian secular music!

For the life of me, I can't see how a Led Zeppelin song could possibly be appropriate for any Christian, much less a church service. Come on people! Pah-leeeeze!

I know nothing about Led Zeppelin. Perhaps you’d explain.

Indeed.

Mainstream evangelical Christianity is in freefall.

But, hey, the lyrics say "it's just a spring clean for the May Queen." Do you even know who/what the "May Queen" is? Take heed what ye hear (Mark 4:24; Luke 8:18).

"Stairway to Heaven" is the world's largest selling rock-n-roll (a euphemism for sexual intercourse - check any encyclopedia) song of all time. And he said unto them, Ye are they which justify yourselves before men; but God knoweth your hearts: for that which is highly esteemed among men is abomination in the sight of God. (Luke 16:15).

Satanic rockers comprise the band Led Zeppelin.

Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you, And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty. (2 Cor. 6:17, 18).

More lyrics: "Yes, there are two paths you can go by, but in the long run, there's still time to change the road you're on." Really? So it's okay to continue in my unregenerate sinful lifestyle and maybe consider repenting later...

Thus saith the LORD, Learn not the way of the heathen, and be not dismayed at the signs of heaven; for the heathen are dismayed at them. (Jer. 10:2).

When I looked at the lyrics online I was wondering just this same thing. What is the "May Queen"? Do you know, Sojourner? It kind of sounds like something pagan to me, but that's just a hunch. And what is the line about looking to the west that the OP suggested leaving out mean? Is that something from some pagan ritual or what? I'm just curious, that's all.

What is the "May Queen"?
You're on the right track.

Generally, the song is an invocation. It involves witchcraft ritual of old which specifically includes human sacrifice. There's a short but informative piece on the co-opted Wikipedia site; do a search there for "May Queen." There is much, much more that could be said about this subtle satanic missive, but that'll do for now as most folk react violently when their tradtions are ignored or exposed.

The pagan holy day of Beltaine is again approaching (May 1st), which is the Luciferian New Year's Day. This is the day when the Illuminati launches its greatest projects, for the witches and wizards of the Wiccan religion, who are the priests and priestesses of the Illuminati, believe that this is the most sacred day of the year. This day of May 1st is when those in witchcraft believe that Lucifer, the sun god, rises from regions of darkness in the underworld to rule from the heavens. Here let it be noted that the organized Illuminati was founded on May 1st, 1776. We also know that May 1st is the big day for all of the communists, which should tell us where that menace came from. We can only wonder what exactly will be launched from Illuminism on May 1st, 2011...

The period of time between the first day of Spring (Vernal Equinox) and May 1st (Beltaine) is a time of intense spell casting and heavy activity by the Illuminati. For example, when I compared the geological activity of the planet with the astrological itinerary of the witches, I can say with great assertion there is no doubt that God is judging their witchcraft and astrology after their own patterns...

Well I was just a teenager when I saw Led Zep in I think 1972 became a fan of theirs in 1970, I learned a lot from that band especially from the drummer John Bonham. I also seen Black Sabbath 2 times as a teenager. Tony Iomi and Geezer of Black Sabbath said the cult stuff, was because the record company Warner Bros, was pushing an image, even having satanic looking album covers drawn up with out their permission. And they also said that the head of England's satanic cult tried to recruit them, but they flat out turned him down. Now Ozzy on the other hand seemed to go with this stuff, calling him self the Prince of Darkness. But the other band members flat out deny it in the interview that I seen.

lewis i know you dont believe in back masking and hidden messages , can you get that from another so well you know less conspiracy site.

jesus-is-savior.com isnt very fond of many mainstream clean preachers.even billy graham

Stairway to heaven concerns me greatly being played in a public place with Christians, its like Gun's n Roses - Redneck music. that's my greatest fear exposing young ears to Bogan anthems. They might grow mullets and desire to wear flannelet shirts at meetings..

there is a subliminal backwards message in it "you will dismantle many cars on your front lawn wearing black stretch denim".

trust me i dont like ozzbourne music all that much, while i agree that his music and all music can influence others to sin but we cant blame the devil for our actions he tempts us , we dont have to listen to it.

the problem with censoring these guys is sooner or later we get the censor as well.

Led Zeppelin music is the music of the devil him self
Really guys music (instruments) itself is harmless, only verbal communication (sung lyrics) can influence minds to do things and only music that has lyrics that are not against biblical principals and/or is god praising something you would consider of god. The remainder does belong to the devil. Even if the artists really didn't intend it that way songs about cheating on spouses, greed, sin etc are of the devil.
