Bible Study Is It Anything About The Sabbath That We Must Know?

Seems like that should end with a question mark and not a period.
Heb 4:8 For if Jesus had given them rest, then would he not afterward have spoken of another day.

It sounds like it could be a question, but merely a statement of resting one day of the week as in the seventh day sabbath rest as if Jesus was talking about another day of rest he would have mentioned it as another day. Some of these men He was speaking to were in unbelief as they did not understand even after hearing Him preach to them, while others believed and understood. It might help if you go back to Hebrews 4 and start at vs. 1 and read through to vs. 11.

I don't understand what you mean.
This is the day which the LORD hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it. (Psa 118:24 KJV)

This could have been said from the first man down the ages to the present time. But there remaineth (future tense) therefore a rest to the people of God. (Heb 4:9 KJV). What is this rest? This is when we shall rest in the presence of the Lord. But like the ten virgins, we need to be prepared, ready and waiting. We can have the assurance of God’s rest ‘today’ by accepting the finished work of Christ and asking him to be our Lord and Saviour in the here and now, this very day. If you haven’t already, would you like to do it now, today, and be assured of that Sabbath rest?

The versions are the same on the same site.

Well, let's see:

Hebrews 4:8

King James Version
"For if Jesus had given them rest, then would he not afterward have spoken of another day."

Which is implying that another day was not spoken of afterward.

English Standard Version - (Representative of the other versions)
"For if Joshua had given them rest, God would not have spoken of another day later on."

Which is implying that He did speak of another day later on.

The other day, Jesus spoke of, is when he returned to the believer's future dwelling place, alive for evermore.

Yes, that is the ESV's implication.

But the KJV seems to be saying the opposite.
No Sir, I do not agree with your statement, because in all of our studies as a Christian the king James version had been proven to be one of the best to use, even with the open edition which brings out more detailed information.

You equate the word 'holy' as being some formal worship practice. That isn't what 'holy' means.
I agree that many people equate that. I think it is better understood 'to sanctify' or 'set aside'. My understanding is the 'keeping' of the sabbath is a multi-beneficial practice.

  • As a point/opportunity of faith for the children of Israel. It is an acknowledgement of the permanent covenant which God made between the children of Israel and Himself. - see Exodus 31:12-17
You can obviously see that He is quite serious about this covenant when you read those passages. If you intend to identify with that covenant, it shouldn't be done lightly. I wouldn't just arbitrarily pick a day of the week for 'keeping the sabbath'. The day that you pick should be what you believe to be the seventh day.

  • The demands of the world are ever intrusive. God Expects the children of Israel to set aside a day free from the enslavement by the world/society. Why not spend it focusing on what is True and valuable. It is a sort of cleansing from the rest of the week.

Obviously, most people will not keep or choose to identify with this covenant or keep this practice. Saturday is a popular day for all manner of events. ...And good luck keeping your job if you intend to identify with this covenant.
