Is it ever ok to lie?

I actually have and it was a big mistake.
While i did not say the baby looked like et, i said
''Wow what a strange looking baby''
The mother started to cry. My wife got upset, I should have lied.
It was and still drama everytime we see this couple.


I also have a friend whos name is Miguel. He is a Pastor now, but right before his conversion to the Lord, His marriage wason the rocks and he was planning his wifes murder. Aafter his conversion he fealt he needed to confess his sins and he did to me and a friend. This is how I know this.
He asked us if he should confess to his wife about this and we told him NO.
Well a few weeks later he and his wife were talking and she asked him a question. Do you have anything you would like to say to me. He should have said no, but he told here. While they are still together and seemenly good, she is contantly reminding him and everybody else about this. Not good, he should have lied I think. He said no because the bible says its a sin. I said yes its a sin, but God will forgive and forget. I told him Rhab the harlot died, He said I am taking it out of contex. I said OK, its your neck.
 
I don't think i could tell someoen to their face, that their kid is ugly. It's not the babies fault, nor is it the parents. It isn't right to insult someone based on their born features.


However, When a lady with one of those "children on a leash" things, asks me if her child is cute, i will say "Ohh, its a baby!, wow, most people only leash their dogs!"

but thats just because i have an opinion against leashing children.

He should have said nothing, because in reality he really had nothing to say to her. What I mean is, if she asked me do I have anything to tell her, I would have said no. Because that is something that I would not have wanted to tell her. So I would have said no, just because I don't want to say that to her. And that would have been the truth. There is a principle in AA confess your faults, except when to do so would injure or harm others.
 
I feel that god has permitted us, in his rules, to lie in situations like this. One of our missions for the lord is to help people, so that is what we must do, even if we have to lie.
 
I agree with Lovely. I'd rather put my faith in God to protect them in the situation then put my faith in sin. The only reason I would lie is because I would fear what happend to them if I didn't... their death. God is the only one I should fear. Now I can't say that I would actually tell the truth if I was in said situation. I fail all the time, but I do think it would be a sin to lie. Luckily for me sin is forgivable.
 
Hey, in reading this thread over again I saw a post by Poke. What ever happened to that dude. I can't say I miss him, but he did break out with some off the wall stuff that made me :roll:
 
I don't know Oscar. I've been back searching the forums today, just finished reading the birthday thread and was reflecting on all the people that arn't here anymore.. I've also been kind of wondering, especially after my rant today... how many people I may have ran off...
