Is the bible the Word of God?

You are equivocating. I have stated clearly what this topic is about. Just for you, the title of this thread is: "Is the Bible given to us by God?" Everyone else understood what the title meant.

Can you not read?

The title- as a record of fact - is - " Is the bible the Word of God?"

Is was started by Reba - not you - Free post!

If you want to start a thread titled "Is the Bible given to us by God?" - OK - but that is not the title of this thread!

PS - I got to thinking about it - And I will start a thread with your title. There are some things I would like to write on your subject.

Jesus is the Word of God made flesh, The Bible is the Word of God made book including every jot and title ..Right ? But I understand where you're coming from friend :)

Jesus always was "The Word of God" and He was not made flesh, He took on flesh!! There is a difference, and it is an important one to understand.

The difference is that The Christ is a being - a person in the God head - as in Father, Son, and Spirit.

And a study of the Scriptures clearly show us He is not the Scriptures. It should be obvious that He is not the Scriptures, because the Scriptures are writings and He is a person. And it should also be even more obvious to believer's because His sheep hear His voice, and He will talk to you about the Scriptures, so you would know that He is not the Book but the Teacher!

However for those studying the Scriptures but not seeking His voice let me prove that He is not the Scriptures with a couple of verses.

Jn 5:39 You search the Scriptures because you think that in them you have eternal life; it is these that testify about Me; and you are unwilling to come to Me so that you may have life.

Gal 3:22 But the Scripture has shut up everyone under sin, so that the promise by faith in Jesus Christ might be given to those who believe.

In both those verse we see that there are the Scriptures and there is Jesus Christ, and they are not the same thing!! In fact, both of those Scriptures point out a particular problem that people were having then. The people seemed to think that studying the Scriptures, instead of seeking and knowing Jesus Christ, was going to give them the promise of eternal life. And if that was happening then, is it not happening today? Of course, I doubt the people then like thinking that it was their problem, but this particular bit of reproof was very important to them. Perhaps they would start seeking Jesus Christ instead of just searching the Scriptures thinking in them they had life.

John 1:14 KJV
And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

Y’all quit fussing now.

Just about every other manuscript wound up as became flesh.

We will put you all out plowing new ground in the rain, if you do not behave. LOL

What do you believe? was the question Reba asked. That does not mean have a knock down drag out fight.

Hey I have no letters after my name to qualify me to say all this. No M or A or MD or DV on the subject.

Take a deep breath chill and quote them thar scriptures. Got a revelstion (better quote a bunch of scriptures to back it up).

It's not "my" subject, it is the subject of this thread. Very clearly then, it is not I who is not reading. You are so hung up on your own agenda and equivocating of words, that you completely ignore that a vast majority of people would understand what reba meant by the title. Not only would most people understand it without further explanation, the very context of her post proves that I am right:

"This question has come up on another thread...
this site says this:
We believe that the Bible is inspired by God in its entirety, and is without error in the original autographs, a complete and final written revelation from God.
What do you believe ?"

Further than that is the context of the other thread(s) where this issue came up. But it isn't even necessary to understand that to understand what is meant by the title. As I said previously, everyone but you has not understood. So the next time you want to suggest that someone isn't reading the title, perhaps you had better consider why you're the only one who is having a discussion that is different from the rest.

That is all I will say. Please get back on topic and keep things on topic.

Hi, yes, I do believe it's the Word of God. Nevertheless, I'm only speaking for myself. Other people must find out what they think. For me, I think it's more than a bit naive to read the Bible word-by-word as if God sat on a Sky writing the Bible, word-by-word. It's not different to read the Bible than reading any other book. We have to ask what was the cultural context and see the big picture. Blessings! Edna Davidsen

Ok - I don't want to get into an argument about semantics - but thinking the Jesus Christ is the Bible is not semantics!!

And that was what was being promoted, and often still is. If people think and state the Bible is Jesus, they are thinking that somehow, in some mystic way, the words of God were made into a fleshy being. And then, and so, those words of God are now recorded as the Bible. That is what it would mean for the Bible to be Jesus.

The proof against that is to show that Jesus the Christ was a person before taking on flesh. If an old English translation has it "made" that may not be the meaning of made to people today. Why do modern translations have it "became" flesh? the meaning of the word might not be the same today as it used to be, which is fine unless people start thinking the Bible is Jesus Christ. And I did quote a Scriptures to back it up! Or did you not read what I wrote? Maybe it was not me that was "fussy"? Maybe it was not me making it about semantics?

Anyway - Jesus Christ is the Word of God, but He is not the Bible! We call the Bible "The Word of God" today, but we probably shouldn't. We should probably keep to calling the Bible the Holy Scriptures, and to calling Jesus Christ the Word of God. And for Free Post ( who keeps deleting comments on that title), the title of the thread is "Is the bible the Word of God". So we call it that, but probably shouldn't. We confuse people when we do that. They tend to think that it is the "final" revelation (see the OP for "final") and think that we must "quote a bunch of scriptures to back it up" instead of knowing the understanding comes from the mouth of God and not our understanding of even a bunch of scriptures.

Prov 2:6 For the Lord gives wisdom; from His mouth come knowledge and understanding.

That one scriptures should show you that Jesus Christ is the Word of God, but you will have to actually talk to Him and listen if get the understanding of it.

God's Word has always been his Word .. Jesus didn't exist as the flesh and blood Son of God until he did, he was and is God, God's Word become flesh, One, the same God, same Word , so is the inspired book in written form as God saw fit to give it ..

:hysterical
Now you are just being silly.

I've gotta fall in the camp that believes that the words in the Bible really are "God breathed". I reckon the original autographs were probably free from the simple copyist errors and variations that we find in the surviving manuscripts, but that does nothing to diminish what we have in virtually any translation of the Bible that I have read (NIV, KJV, ESV, NASB, RSV). No other book has the same power to transform. The answer seems self-evident to me.

Yes I believe the Bible messages are the word of God and I believe Jesus was the word of God made flesh

If that isn't true we don't have anything else we can believe in.

Jesus loves me, this I know.

For the Bible tells me so.

Have any of you ever seen the OT red letter edition. My husband has one and just like the NT where the red words are Jesus speaking so the same in the OT where God is speaking. Definitely brings a better understanding.

What do you believe ?

If it's not then we have nothing. Then all we have is people making up what they want.

Awesome.

I don't know where you can get them as our former Pastor ordered them about 15 years ago and I don't know where he got them. Probably will have to google it
