    Strengthening families through biblical principles.

Focus on the Family addresses the use of biblical principles in parenting and marriage to strengthen the family.

Every theory must be judged based on it's own criteria. The theory that the earth is flat claims to be scientific, and so must be judged based on scientific evidence. As I mentioned above, there are many scientifically verifiable facts that show that the earth is not flat.

The theory that Jesus is alive after having died and risen from the dead is not a scientific theory, nor does it claim to be, but is rather a religious theory, and must therefore be judged on a religious basis. In the case of Christianity, that religious basis by which we judge all religious theories, is the Bible. The Bible does support the theory that Jesus is alive and will continue to live forever.

Does that explain the difference?

The TOG
Jesus being alive is based on historical evidence.
Ask any lawyer.
The world being flat is based on scientific data that is available.
Now with that put to one side, let's say a normal, common person with no understanding of law or science, wonders about a flat Earth and a living Jesus, is there really any difference?

By the way, this thread isn't about whether the Earth is flat or not, it's about our belief that Jesus is alive.
Why do we believe that?
And what are we doing to convince others to believe the same thing?

By the way, this thread isn't about whether the Earth is flat or not, it's about our belief that Jesus is alive.

And what are we doing to convince others to believe the same thing?

Why we believe is a personal issue, which means there isn't a right or wrong answer.

And as for convincing others to believe, it's not what we are called to do.

Then what are we called to do?

Matthew 28....(NKJV)
18 And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth.
19 Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,
20 teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen.

And this:

1 Corinthians 3....(NKJV)
5 Who then is Paul, and who is Apollos, but ministers through whom you believed, as the Lord gave to each one?
6 I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the increase.
7 So then neither he who plants is anything, nor he who waters, but God who gives the increase.
8 Now he who plants and he who waters are one, and each one will receive his own reward according to his own labor.
9 For we are God’s fellow workers; you are God’s field, you are God’s building.
10 According to the grace of God which was given to me, as a wise master builder I have laid the foundation, and another builds on it. But let each one take heed how he builds on it.
11 For no other foundation can anyone lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ.

We are sowers of the Word.

Actually, if you ask any Navy man or any mariner who has spent time on the open ocean, he will tell you that you truly CAN see the curvature of the Earth from the deck of a ship. I fly, and you can REALLY see it from up there.
you don't have to fly. when I went to the tallest building in my town and looked out I could see the curve of the earth. that is only 13 stories.

So what is wrong with believing that the world is flat?
We believe that Jesus is alive.
What's the difference?
What's the diff? God testifies to the latter.

By the way, this thread isn't about whether the Earth is flat or not, it's about our belief that Jesus is alive.
Why do we believe that?
Why do we believe that Jesus is alive? Because God has sent the power of faith via the Holy Spirit into the world to show mankind what is true that they have no way of knowing on their own is true. He does that so they can then place their trust in what they now know to be true about sin/ Jesus Christ/ and the Judgment to come.

"It is the Spirit who testifies, because the Spirit is the truth.
...the testimony of God is this, that He has testified concerning His Son. 10 The one who believes in the Son of God has the testimony in himself; the one who does not believe God has made Him a liar, because he has not believed in the testimony that God has given concerning His Son." (1 John 5:6,9-10 NASB)

And what are we doing to convince others to believe the same thing?
Er....well....I, um.......

Oh, oh! I have a t-shirt with a cross on it. Yeah, that's what.

We believe Jesus is alive because it has been revealed to us

But it's always been about faith. It was for Abraham and Moses et al. So it is with us.

We have ample evidence that the earth is a sphere.

You're trying to compare a faith question with a scientific one. Apples and oranges mate.

The Apostle Paul spent a lot of time in a lot of Synagogues trying to convince people of the truth.

If you asked me to prove that the Earth was round, I couldn't.
I could explain it but not prove it.

We choose what we want to believe.
That's what goes on in this Forum everyday.
Disputes over doctrines and we have differing points of view.
Whether the Earth is flat or if Jesus is alive, it's our choice to believe it or not.

This idea taken from the science lab forum.
When I look out into the ocean, the Earth looks flat.
Yes, there are mountains and deep pits, but overall, the Earth looks flat.

Now I am told that the Earth is round.
Some guy up in space took pictures of it.
But even with pictures, I have to "believe" it is true, because I have not seen it myself.

So what is wrong with believing that the world is flat?
We believe that Jesus is alive.
What's the difference?
There's one way to find out for sure. Pay someone to take you up in a plane and fly east until you see the end of the earth. When you discover that you can land where you started, you will prove to yourself that the earth is round.

That's what you say.
You're asking me to believe what you say is true.
What happens if I do that and fall off the end of a flat world?
I have to take your word that it won't happen.

What if there is a special unseen gravity just pulling the plane in a circle instead of going around the world? I've been accused of driving in circles. :confused2

This comparison of belief in a flat earth to belief in Jesus is valid in one way. That is that when someone truly doesn't want to believe something, there will never be enough evidence in all the world to convince them. Just as if you want to believe the Earth is flat there will never be enough evidence in all the world to convince you differently, if you want to believe Jesus wasn't real there will never be enough evidence in all the world to convince you differently. Many people tend to believe what they want and will not be convinced otherwise. Jesus told us to just walk away from them and go on to the next.

Now we're getting somewhere (I just don't know where).
This leaves one with but one option. Walk or drive east until you come to water, get in a boat and continue east until you come to land, continue eastward on foot or cart until you come to water again, continue in a boat until you come to land, etc. and if the earth is round and you don't deviate from your projected path you will eventually return to whence you started. If it is flat, you'll find an edge and then need to make a choice to either step off or stop.

LOL! How could the truth of such logic EVER be missed?????
