To all in the thread.

I haven’t been able to find any New Testament scriptures that specify any particular way we are to observe the Sabbath today.

Does anyone have a NT scripture that teaches us specifically how the Sabbath is to be observed?

I have posted Romans 14 and Colossians 2 that deal with the Sabbath but these offer no prescribed manner in which to observe.

Thanks JLB

I'm not impressed that the Jews observed the Sabbath and the the NT records that. Of course they did. That was their heritage.

We all need a Sabbath day rest. On day per week so we don't burn out. And take time out to reflect on the week and enjoy God and family. Rest the body. Meditate on the word. Stuff like that. But you can do this any day of the week (for some that's necessary due to work schedules).

I think that is a great post Papa, that shows all the 10 commandments repeated in the NEW Testament. However God's Word does not say the 4th Commandments is any day of the Week. It clearly says it is the 7th day of the week. This is the day that Gods' has blessed and made a holy day and no work is to be done on it. It is a day to worship and remember the only true God of creation and to do good as Jesus taught all.

Exodus 20
8, Remember the SABBATH DAY, to KEEP IT HOLY. <Why?> Because God made it Holy for mankind and commands us to keep it as a Holy day)
9, Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work:
10, But the SEVENTH DAY IS THE SABBATH of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: <WHY?>
11, For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.

God says that it is a specific day which is the 7TH DAY OF THE WEEK that he has made to be a HOLY DAY. Jesus says it was made Holy in the creation week for mankind. All scriptures connect and are in harmony. Genesis where God made the Day a HOLY DAY; God’s 4th commandment to His people that says to REMEMBER the Sabbath day to KEEP it a HOLY DAY and Jesus stating that the Sabbath was made for MANKIND (Human beings; male and female).

The 4th commandment is the "Lord's day" that Jesus made for mankind. The was the day that John was in the Spirit in the book of Revelation (1:10). God's Word says that the Lord's Day is the Sabbath day not Sunday....

Matthew 12
8,
For the Son of man is LORD EVEN OF THE SABBATH DAY.

Can anyone show a scripture that says that Sunday is the Lord's day?

..........

God's 4th commandment is one of the ten (Exodus 20:8-11) and like any of the ten, if we knowingly break it when God asks us not to we stand guilty before God of committing sin (James 2:8-12). If we do not seek him in repentance and forgiveness we are in danger of the Judgement (Hebrews 10:26-27)

There is not one scripture in ALL of God's WORD that says God's 4th commandment is now ABOLISHED and we are now commanded to worship God on Sunday in it's place.

Sunday worship is a tradition and teaching of man that has lead many to break the commandments of God. Jesus says that if we follow the traditions of man that break the commandments of God we are not following God (Matthew 15:3-9)

Who should we follow the teachings and traditions of men or the Word of God? Who should we believe the Words of men or the Word of God?

It is a day to worship and remember the only true God of creation and to do good as Jesus taught all.

Please share with us the scriptures from the New Testament that teach us Saturday is the day we worship and do good above the other days of the week.

Why don’t we remember the only true God everyday and seek to do good to all everyday?

Also please provide the New Testament scriptures that show us specifically how we are to keep the Sabbath today.

If keeping the Sabbath in a certain prescribed manner were of such great importance then You would think there would be some mention of it somewhere?

If it was so vital to teach the Gentiles who were coming to Christ, about keeping the Sabbath in a specific prescribed manner then why not mention it here and add it to this written document that was to be circulated throughout the Gentile world among the Churches?

For it seemed good to the Holy Spirit, and to us, to lay upon you no greater burden than these necessary things: that you abstain from things offered to idols, from blood, from things strangled, and from sexual immorality. If you keep yourselves from these, you will do well. Acts 15:28-29

Paul who wrote most of the New Testament taught the Churches for the last 2000 years, giving us instructions in righteousness only has this to say about the matter.

So let no one judge you in food or in drink, or regarding a festival or a new moon or sabbaths, which are a shadow of things to come, but the substance is of Christ.
Colossians 2:16-17

  • The substance is of Christ.

Again

One person esteems one day above another; another esteems every day alike.Let each be fully convinced in his own mind. He who observes the day, observes it to the Lord; and he who does not observe the day, to the Lord he does not observe it. He who eats, eats to the Lord, for he gives God thanks; and he who does not eat, to the Lord he does not eat, and gives God thanks. Romans 14:5-6

  • he who does not observe the day, to the Lord he does not observe it.

Observing or not observing Saturday over other days of the week is between the Lord and His servant.

If the person is walking in the Spirit and being led by the Spirit then the Lord is well able to lead that person to do what the Lord desires for that person to do each day.

If the person is not walking in the Spirit and is not led by the Spirit, then keeping the Sabbath in a certain way is the least of their problems.

Let’s be those who walk in the Spirit and are not under the law.

Amen.

Hello JBL,

Everything you have been posting has already been carefully adressed with the scriptures in God's Word and posted for your consideration. May I respectfully request that if you do not believe a post and the scriptures and the questions provided to you are correct, could you please give your REASONS WHY from GOD'S WORD as I have done for you? I think this would help the conversation better. What do you think? If your posts and scriptures have already been addressed already, I will just post you the post # linked. Maybe you missed the post I do not know.
Please share with us the scriptures from the New Testament that teach us Saturday is the day we worship and do good above the other days of the week. Also please provide the New Testament scriptures that show us specifically how we are to keep the Sabbath today.

Answered already with scriptures. Please see the linked posts # 2; 28; 46; 53; 63 Forever; Please also read Papa Zooms nice post # 185 above. If you disagree please address each post and the scrtiptures provided in each post and your reasons with the scriptures. So far you have only just been repeating what you have already said the first time and ignored the posts and scriptures sent to you. This would be great so we can continue the discussion.

We should of course worship and remember God everyday. I have never said we should not. God's Word hoever says that God has made the 7th day a Holy day because it is a memorial of creation and a day of rest from work that is not to be done. This is the 4th commandment of the 10 commandments (Exodus 20:8-11)
If keeping the Sabbath in a certain prescribed manner were of such great importance then You would think there would be some mention of it somewhere?

Indeed, that is why it is mentioned all through the OLD and NEW Testaments scriptures. Jesus is our example and we should follow him like all the disciples did.

Yet the scriptures say God' ONLY gives His Spirit to those who OBEY HIM (Act 5:32).

In times of ignorance God WINKS at because someone is living up to all the KNOWLEDGE that God has given them. These can continue to walk in God's spirit if they BELIEVE and OBEY all the KNOWLEDGE of God's truth that they KNOW about.

However, if GOD reveals NEW truth to anyone as part of their Christian GROWTH (1 Cor 1:1-2; 1 Pet 2:2) and one does not BELIEVE or reject the Word of God then you have becoem an UNBELIEVER and it is written...

For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins, But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries
. (Hebrews 10:26-27)

If you are still in your SINS then you are still under the law and still in your SINS because you have not BELIEVED the Word of God and followed it and do not KNOW him who loves you (1 John 3:6-8; 1 John 2:3-4)

Hope this helps..

If you are still in your SINS then you are still under the law and still in your SINS because you have not BELIEVED the Word of God and followed it
Rom 6:14 ...sin shall not have dominion over you, for you are not under law but under grace.
Gal 5:4 You have become estranged from Christ, you who attempt to be justified by law; you have fallen from grace.

Rom 6:14 ...sin shall not have dominion over you, for you are not under law but under grace.
Gal 5:4 You have become estranged from Christ, you who attempt to be justified by law; you have fallen from grace.

Great scriptures Jim thanks for sharing.

Sin is the transgression of God's 10 Commandments (1 John 3:4; Romans 7:7; 3:20; James 2:11) It is only if we are living a life of KNOWN UNREPENTANT SIN that we are "Under the law" because SIN (breaking God's LAW) shows us that we stand guilty before God in SIN and need to seek him in REPENTANCE and FORGIVENESS (Romans 3:19; Prov 28:13; Acts 2:38; 3:19; 1 John 2:1; 1 John 1:9; John 3:16-21)

No one is saying to anyone that they are justified by the law because by God's LAW (10 commandments) is the KNOWLEDGE of SIN. We are ONLY saved by GRACE through FAITH and NOT of OURSELVES it is a GIFT OF GOD and not of WORKS Lest any man should boast (Ephesians 2:8)

It's never been about following the law its always been about following Christ by faith through love alone. Faith that works by love is what fulfills God's Law in those that walk in His Spirit (Romans 13:8-10).

Obedience is only the fruit of faith and a sign that someone is genuinely following God's Word (Matthew 7:17-27). If you seek obedience without faith you will never attain it because this is the gift of God written on the heart (Ephesians 2:8; Galatians 2:16; Hebrews 8:10-12).

But if you believe God's Word, your faith will be counted for righteousness in God's eyes (Romans 1:17; Philippians 3:9). If your faith does not have the fruit of obedience (God's work in you) than you are still in your sins and have not seen him or known him and your faith is dead (Philippians 2:13; Hebrews 10:26-27; 1 John 2:2-4; 1 John 3:3-9).

What we are talking about is SIN and how SIN will keep all who practice it OUT of God's Kingdom. If you profess to have saving FAITH but your faith does NOT have the FRUIT of OBEDIENCE to God's Word then your faith is DEAD and you are still in your SINS and do not KNOW him who calls us in LOVE to LOVE all as he first LOVED us. LOVE is the fulfilling of the LAW in those who walk by FAITH in God's Spirit. (James 2:18; 20; 26; Romans 13:8-10; 1 John 3:3-10; James 2:8-12; Matthew 7:13-20)

No mention here of any scriptures that command us to observe Saturday above any other day of the week as a day to do good.

You keep saying that you have addressed my question, with scriptures, but that simply isn't the truth.

You have never posted a scripture that commands us to observe Saturday as a day that is to be esteemed above others days, as a day to do good.

Everyday is the day to be led by the Spirit.

Everyday is the day to walk according to the Spirit, and to do what is good to our neighbor.

Not just Saturday.

Also please provide the New Testament scriptures that show us specifically how we are to keep the Sabbath today.

This was the next question.

Here is your answer -

Answered already with scriptures. Please see the linked posts # 2; 28; 46; 53; 63 Forever; Please also read Papa Zooms nice post # 185 above. If you disagree please address each post and the scrtiptures provided in each post and your reasons with the scriptures. So far you have only just been repeating what you have already said the first time and ignored the posts and scriptures sent to you. This would be great so we can continue the discussion.

Nothing in your post here addresses or answers the question I asked.

Starting with number 2 -

What did Jesus and the Apostles teach about the Sabbath in the New Testament?

1. It is lawful to do good on the Sabbath (Matt 12:1-8; 10-12; 24:20; Mark 3:1-5; Luke 6:1-10; 13:14-16; 14:1-5; John 7:22-23; 9:14; Mark 1:21; Mark 6:2; Luke 4:16; 31; Luke 14:1; 23:56)
2. Jesus made the Sabbath for all mankind (Hebrews 1:2; John 1:1-3; 14; Ephesians 3:9; Colossians 1:16-17; Mark 2:27)
3. Jesus is Lord of the Sabbath (Mark 2:28)
4. If you do not believe and follow God you cannot enter His Sabbath rest (Hebrews 4)
5. It is one of God’s 10 commandments we break it we are guilty or breaking all (James 2:8-12)
6. Breaking it is sin (1 John 3:4)
7. God’s true followers keep it Holy as God commanded (Rev 14:12; Rev 22:14; Eze 20:20)
8. Jesus is our example and he kept the Sabbath (Matt 12:1-8; 10-12; 24:20; Mark 3:1-5; Luke 6:1-10; 13:14-16; 14:1-5; John 7:22-23; 9:14; Mark 1:21; Mark 6:2; Luke 4:16; 31; Luke 14:1; 23:56; John 2:6; Matt 16:24; 1 Cor 11:1; Eph 5:1-21; Pet 2:20-22)
9. The Apostle kept the Sabbath (Acts 13:14; 13:27; 13:44; 15:21; 16:13; 17:2; 18:4; Rev 1:10)

God’s Law in the NC is written on our hearts it is through love and it is love the fulfils God’s Law in us as we walk not after the flesh but after the spirit and is why Jesus says f you love me keep my commandments. (John 14:15; John 15:10). If we knowingly break one of God’s commandments we commit sin (1 John 3:4). This includes the 7th Day Sabbath which Jesus made for us and commands us to keep as a holy day.

  • Nothing in this post about how we are to specifically keep the Sabbath today, under grace.

You may have alot of scripture references, but no one single one of the them address the question I asked you.

Let me remind you my position about the commandments, from my post # 18

I am 100 % for obeying the commandments.

I am against obeying the Sabbath according to the law of Moses.

The Sabbath is Saturday the seventh day of the week.

You have claimed yourself we are not under the law of Moses, so the question is:

  • How do the New Testament writers, teach the Church to keep the Sabbath today, under Christ?

This is the only question I have asked you, and you keep saying you have addressed this question, but all who have observed this thread know that it is just not true.

  • Please post the scriptures from the new testament that teach us specifically how to observe the Sabbath today, under Christ.

Please do not post scriptures about the Sabbath being the seventh day of the week. I agree.
Please do not post Exodus 20:8-11 stating that the Sabbath is the seventh Day, and is holy.

  • Please just post the new testament scriptures that teach us specifically how to observe the Sabbath today, under Christ.

Whoever commits sin also commits lawlessness, and sin is lawlessness. 1 John 3:4

Posting 1 John 3:4, and claiming this addresses my question, does not teach us how we are to observe the Sabbath today, under Christ.

(James 2:18; 20; 26; Romans 13:8-10; 1 John 3:3-10; James 2:8-12; Matthew 7:13-20)

........

God's 4th commandment is one of the ten (Exodus 20:8-11) If we knowingly break it when God asks us not to we stand guilty before God of committing sin (James 2:8-12).

In times of ignorance God winks at but now calls all men every where to REPENT for the KINGDOM of HEAVEN is at HAND (Acts 17:30-31)

Hope this helps..
No. It doesn't.
I'm not under the Law.
If you want to be under the Law then that is your choice.
Good luck with that.

Hi JBL, some comments for you below....

This was the next question.

Actually no it was not. Now your full question in your orginal post was as follows. This is verified in post # 189 linked. I went back to your orignal post and it seems you have edited the question out of your post for whatever reason. To me this says that you have read the scriptures and have agreed it does not make your position look to good. Here is your original question posted below.... as also can be seen from the quote post # 189.

JLB said: Please share with us the scriptures from the New Testament that teach us Saturday is the day we worship and do good above the other days of the week. Also please provide the New Testament scriptures that show us specifically how we are to keep the Sabbath today.

Your questions seem to have been edited question out and you did not add all the questions you asked earlier that have been answered.

Yes seems like this post is indeed answering your original question! That is the same question Papa Zoom was answering earlier from your post # 184 linked

Not sure why you did not post the full question you asked that has been answered with the scriptures and Papa Zooms post already

JLB said: Please share with us the scriptures from the New Testament that teach us Saturday is the day we worship and do good above the other days of the week.

Now let's have a look at the other part of your question as it was indeed not completely answered as I thought the answer was obvious and paid it less attention.....

JLB said:Also please provide the New Testament scriptures that show us specifically how we are to keep the Sabbath today.

Now this is partly answered in the above scriptures. Jesus came to teach us the he is the Lord of the Sabbath day (Matthew 12:8). He is the Creator of heaven and earth and all things. It was Jesus that blessed the Sabbath day for all mankind. Man was not made for the Sabbath but the Sabbath was made for man (Mark 2:27-28). Jesus came to teach us that it is lawful to do good works on the Sabbath and refuted the traditions of men in regards to Sabbath keeping Matt 12:1-8; 10-12; 24:20; Mark 3:1-5; Luke 6:1-10; 13:14-16; 14:1-5; John 7:22-23; 9:14; Mark 1:21; Mark 6:2; Luke 4:16; 31; Luke 14:1; 23:56). If you do not believe and follow God you cannot enter His Sabbath rest (Hebrews 4).

Now all the above needs to be read in connection with what the 4th commandment is in order to understand it correctly. All of God's LAW (10 commandments) repeated in the NEW testament scriptures as shown in Papa zooms post # 185 linked. However they are not necessarily repeated word for word like in Exodus 20. WHY? God's people had already been practicing God's LAW for four thousand years and it was taught every Sabbath in the Synagogues (Acts 15:21). The NEW Testament scritpures build upon the OLD testament scriptures they do not do away with them. Everything from the NEW TESTAMENT comes from the OLD TESTAMENT these are the two witnesses.

If you wish to know more detail of the original 10 Commandments when God gave them you need to read Exodus 20. So what do we learn about the 4th commandment from Exodus 20?

OLD TESTAMENT GIVEN...

Exodus 20
8,
Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.
9, Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work:
10, But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates:
11, For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.

What does it teach us?

1. We are to Remeber the Sabbath day and to keep it as a Holy day v8
2. We are to do NO WORK on the Sabbath day v9-10
3. The reason for the Sabbath is that is it a memorial of creation and we are to remember the God of creation because he blessed this day and made it a Holy day v11.

NEW TESTAMENT REINSTATED...

If you do not believe and follow God you cannot enter His Sabbath rest (Hebrews 4).

The NEW Testament does not do away with the OLD Testament. All scripture is give by God and we are to live by every word of it. The rest of your post does not address anything but only repeats what you have already said which can be seen in from this post as not being correct.

Sorry Jim,

Your message was a bit cryptic please forgive me as I am not sure what your saying. Some minor comments in Blue

No. It doesn't.'
No it doesnt what? Not sure what your referring to.
I'm not under the Law.
Great me too! Your only "under the law" if your trying to get your salvation from it or if you are breaking any of the 10 Commandments.

If you want to be under the Law then that is your choice. Good luck with that
And why would anyone wish to do that? Please re-read post # 191 linked
.

Thanks for your comments Jim although they may need some clarification.

God bless you as you seek the Lord through His Word

Sorry nothing you have posted addresses the unanswered question.

Here it is to the whole thread.

To all in the thread.

I haven’t been able to find any New Testament scriptures that specify any particular way we are to observe the Sabbath today.

Does anyone have a NT scripture that teaches us specifically how the Sabbath is to be observed?

You have posted scripture references but they do not adresss the question as to how we are to observe the Sabbath today, under Christ.

Under the Law, people were put to death for not strictly adhering to the rules of the Sabbath law, to the point of even gathering sticks to kindle a fire meant death.

Example:

32 Now while the children of Israel were in the wilderness, they found a man gathering sticks on the Sabbath day. 33 And those who found him gathering sticks brought him to Moses and Aaron, and to all the congregation. 34 They put him under guard, because it had not been explained what should be done to him.

35 Then the Lord said to Moses, “The man must surely be put to death; all the congregation shall stone him with stones outside the camp.” 36 So, as the Lordcommanded Moses, all the congregation brought him outside the camp and stoned him with stones, and he died.
Numbers 15:32-36

What I am asking for from you, are the scriptures from the New Testament that guide and direct us as to how the Sabbath is to be observed today, so that the Church can be informed and instructed to properly observe the Sabbath today, while under Christ.

We see how it was under Moses, what we all need to know is how we are to go about our Sabbath day, under Christ.

Some helpful examples might include:

  • When does the Sabbath begin, Friday at sundown or Saturday 12:01am ?
  • What can we do? Cook, make bed, travel. How far can we travel?
  • Is it required that we attend a church service. How far away can we travel?
  • Is Synagogue attendance mandatory?
  • What is considered as work? Putting dishes on the table, or picking them up? Laundry or dishwasher?
  • When does the Sabbath under Christ, officially end. Sundown Saturday or Midnight? Any leeway in the schedule for emergencies?

Maybe you could share with us how you go about observing the Sabbath each week, with the corresponding verses that teach you from the New Testament.

Remeber when quoting scripture references such as 1 John 3:4 which says...

Whoever commits sin also commits lawlessness, and sin is lawlessness.
1 John 3:4

This scripture says nothing about how we are to observe the Sabbath today.

If the Church doesn’t know how to go about observing the Sabbath today, then how can she properly obey the Sabbath regulations that are required?

Your question has indeed been answered by both myself and Papa Zoom unfortunaltey you edited your main question out to make it sound as if your question has not been answered when it indeed had been with many scriptures from the New Testament (see post # 189).
Under the Law, people were put to death for not strictly adhering to the rules of the Sabbath law, to the point of even gathering sticks to kindle a fire meant death.

Yes this was correct under the CIVIL LAW of Israel in the OLD Covenant. We are not living in Israel and we are in the NEW Covenant. Answered already with scriptures. Please see the linked posts # 21; 46; 48; . If you disagree please address each post and the scrtiptures provided in each post and your reasons with the scriptures. This will help the discussion.
What I am asking for from you, are the scriptures from the New Testament that guide and direct us as to how the Sabbath is to be observed today, so that the Church can be informed and instructed to properly observe the Sabbath today, while under Christ.

As already outlined in post # 196 everything in the NEW Testament scriptures comes from the OLD Testament scriptures. Together these make up the two great witnesses leading to God and His plan of salvation. All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness and we are to live by EVERY word of it (2Timothy 3:16; Matthew 4:4) Your unedited question has indeed been answsered many time already showing the scriptures in the NEW Testament that is building off the Old testament. The Old Testament shows how the Sabbath is to be kept in the NEW Testament only in reference to the 4th Commandment found in Exodus 20:8-11. So all the scriptures in the NEW Testament are in reference to the OLD Testament. You cannot separate the one from the other. Together they are the Word of God that we are to Believe and LIVE by.

WE are not saved by God's LAW (10 Commandments) God's LAW is the KNOWLEDGE of SIN and RIghteousness (1 John 3:4; Romans 7:7; James 2:11; Romans 3:20; Psalms 119:172) that lead us to Christ if broken and are the standard of Holiness to which we are to aspire.

God's Word says if we break one of the ten we stand guilty before God of breaking all the commandments of God (James 2:8-12).

God's 4th commandment is one of the ten (Exodus 20:8-11) If we break any of God’s 10 Commandments we stand guilty before God in SIN (James 2:11; Romans 7:7; 1 John 3:4; Romans 3:20). This includes the 4th commandment which is one of the ten (Exodus 20:8-11)

If you wish to know more of the details about the scriptures shown to you in the NEW Testament in regards to the 4th Commandment you need to read the NEW Testament together with the OLD Testament scriptures.

There is not one scripture in all of God's Word that says that God's 4th Commandments has been ABOLISHED and we are now commanded to keep Sunday as a Holy day.

Sunday worship is a tradition and teaching of man that has lead many to break the commandments of God.
Jesus says that if we follow the traditions of man that break the commandments of God we are not following God (Matthew 15:3-9)

God has many people in all Churches and many honest Christians break the 4th Commandment out of ignorance. In times of ignorance God winks at but now (when I KNOWLEDGE of the truth is COME) calls all men everywhere to repent (Acts 17:30-31).

Who should we follow the teachings and traditions of men or the Word of God? Who should we believe the Words of men or the Word of God?

Who will you follow?

Ok so you don’t have any New Testament scriptures that teach us how the Sabbath is to be observed today under Christ, as opposed to Sabbath observance under Moses.

I have openly asked for you to share your personal experience for keeping the Sabbath with specific questions about times and what constitutes “work” as well as contegecies for emergencies.
