Bible Study JESUS OUR EXAMPLE and the APOSTLES OBEYED GOD'S LAW and the SABBATH!

No posts and scirptures and questions answered as to why you disagree? It is ok you do not have to answer them. Lets agree to disagree maybe you can pray about it in your own time :).

There is nothing hidden that shall not be revealed come judgement day. It was nice chatting with you and wish you only the best as you seek Jesus through his Word.

.................

There is not one scripture in all of God's Word that says that God's 4th Commandment is now ABOLISHED and we are now commanded to KEEP Sunday as a Holy day.

God's 4th commandment is one of the ten (Exodus 20:8-11) If we knowingly break it when God asks us not to we stand guilty before God of committing sin (James 2:8-12). If we do not seek him in repentance and forgiveness we are in danger of the Judgement (Hebrews 10:26-27)

Sunday worship is a tradition and teaching of man that has lead many to break the commandments of God. Jesus says that if we follow the traditions of man that break the commandments of God we are not following God (Matthew 15:3-9)

Who should we follow the teachings and traditions of men or the Word of God? Who should we believe the Words of men or the Word of God?

May God bless you as you seek him through His Word.

The way the Church is instructed in righteousness is through God’s word.

The Lord through His Apostles has left us a set of instructions in the New Testament for how the believer is to conduct himself in righteousness.

In addition, the Holy Spirit empowers us to do what is instructed of us in the New Testament.

If keeping the Sabbath a certain way was so important, as to prevent the child of God from entrance into God’s kingdom if not observed correctly, then why don’t we find this specific instruction concerning Sabbath observance anywhere in the New Testament?

What we do find from Paul is instruction about the Sabbath as being insignificant and to not let anyone judge us about it, because it’s only a shadow.

Whereas the substance is Christ.

16 So let no one judge you in food or in drink, or regarding a festival or a new moon or sabbaths, 17 which are a shadow of things to come, but the substance is of Christ. Colossians 2:16-17

But hey, if you do find something in the New Testament that does teach us how we are to observe the Sabbath, please let me know.

Sunday worship is not a replacement for the Sabbath.
Worship is NOT the same thing as REST. The Sabbath is a day of rest. Sunday is a day of celebrating the Lord's resurrection. You have equated the two purposes thus creating a red herring logical fallacy.

Hi Jim nice to see you my friend, please forgive me for the slow response. It is true that Sunday is not a replacement for God's Sabbath and that God's Sabbath is a day of rest but also a day of worship and time to spend with God. As I have always said we should worship God everyday but God's 4th Commandment from the 10 says that God made the 7th Day of the Week a HOLY day and no WORK is to be done on this day because it is the "Lords Day" (Matt 12:6) that God has commanded should be a HOLY DAY.

There is no red hearing as you say my friend. Sunday worship is a man made tradition that has been handed down to Christianity by the RCC to protestantism today and the reason most go to Church on Sunday.

This tradition and teaching has led many to break the 4th Commandment because they think God's 4th Commandment is no longer one of the 10 Comamandments.
The Sabbath is a sign between Israel and God, not between Gentiles and God. (I already posted the relevant scripture.)

The scripture defines God's Israel in the NEW Covenant as those that BELIEVE and FOLLOW the Word of God. These scriptures have been shared in the link here in post # 205. .
Scripture states clearly the Gentiles are not required to keep the Law or be circumcised. (Acts 15 was already cited above.)

Already ansered here in post # 5 linked and other places which is talking about circumcision in the book of the law of Moses as a requirement of salvation.
Scripture also says that Love fulfills the Law. You have been told these facts over and over but refuse to acknowledge them.

Absolutely :thumbsup but Jesus says on these two commandments (Love) hang all the law and the prophets. If anyone is breaking any of God's 10 commandments they are NOT showing LOVE to God or their fellow man now are they?
It is completely apparent that you have no desire to debate. Your purpose is clearly to convert. That's not allowed in this forum.

Well that is not true Jim whatsoever. Firstly debating is not for this section of the forum, discussion is however. How can we have a discussion if you do not respond to the posts I send you or address the scriptures? Now however if you want to have a debate I am all for it. Would you like to leave this here and debate this with me in the debate section of the forum? If not we may have to agree to disagree and remain friends :)

Thanks for your thoughts Jim. Nice talking to you.

LOVE IS THE FULFILLING OF GOD’S LAW IN THOSE WHO BELIEVE

You cannot separate God’s Law of love from the 10 commandments because they are connected to each other. There is no need for confusion here. God’s Word makes it very clear.

Let's have a look................................................

What does Jesus say when he talk about the commandments. Jesus is quoting from Old testament scriptures of Deuteronomy 6:5 and Leviticus 19:18.................

Matthew 22
36, Master, which is the great commandment in the law?
37, Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
38, This is the first and great commandment.
39, And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.
40, ON THESE TWO COMMANDMENTS HANG ALL THE LAW AND THE PROPHETS.

Let's get clearer......................................................

Matthew 19
16, And, behold, one came and said unto him, Good Master, what good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life?
17, And he said unto him, Why call thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God: BUT IF YOU WILL ENTER INTO LIFE KEEP THE COMMANDMENTS.
18, He saith unto him, WHICH? JESUS SAID, THOU SHALT NOT MURDER, THOU SHALT NOT COMMIT ADULTERY, THOU SHALT NOT STEAL, THOU SHALT NOT LIE, HONOR YOU MOTHER AND FATHER AND THOU SHALT LOVE THY NEIGHBOR AS THYSELF
20, The young man saith unto him, All these things have I kept from my youth up: what lack I yet? 21, Jesus said unto him, If thou wilt be perfect, go and sell that thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come and follow me. <Jesus showed him that he may have fulfilled His duty of love to his neighbor but not to God breaking commandment 1 and 2 loving riches more than God>

Well Jesus makes it very clear that what he is talking about it is the 10 commandments of God's Law.

What about James................................................................

James 2
8, If ye fulfill the royal law according to the scripture, THOU SHALT LOVE THY NEIGHBOR AS THYSELF, ye do well:
9, But if ye have respect to persons, ye commit sin, and are convinced of the law as transgressors.
10, FOR WHOSOEVER SHALL KEEP THE WHOLE LAW AND YET OFFEND IN ONE POINT, HE SHALL BE GUILTY OF ALL.
11, FOR HE THAT SAID, DO NOT COMMIT ADULTERY SAID ALSO DO NOT KILL. NOW IF YOU DO NOT COMMIT ADULTERY AND YOU KILL, YOU HAVE BECOME A TRANSGRESSOR OF GOD'S LAW.

12, So speak ye, and so do, as they that shall be judged by the law of liberty.

Well James makes it very clear what he is talking about when he talks about the Royal Law of love. He is talking about the 10 commandments. So Jesus and James both agree that they are talking about God's 10 commandments which also include the 4th commandment which is one of the ten.

What about Paul? He wrote a lot of books in God's Word...........................

Romans 13
8, Owe no man anything, but to LOVE ONE ANOTHER: for HE THAT LOVES ANOTHER HAS FULFILLED THE LAW.
9, For this, THOU SHALT NOT COMMIT ADULTERY, THOU SHALT NOT KILL, THOU SHALT NOT STEAL, THOU SHALT NOT LIE, THOU SHALT NOT COVET; and IF THERE SHALL BE ANY OTHER COMMANDMENT, it is briefly comprehended in this saying, namely, THOU SHALT LOVE THY NEIGHBOR AS THYSELF.
10, Love works no ill to his neighbor: therefore LOVE IS THE FULFILLING OF THE LAW.

Paul makes it very clear what he is talking about as well when he is talking about God's Law. It seems like Jesus, James and Paul all agree together what it is they are referring to when talking about God's Law. They are all referring to God's 10 commandments which includes the 4th commandment which is one of the ten (Exodus 20:1-17)

So now that God's Word shows us what it is referring to. No need to guess, what are talking about, God’s Law of Love is God's 10 commandments. It is only through Faith that works by love that anyone can walk in the Spirit which produces the fruit of obedience because love is the fulfilling of God’s Law in those that walk by faith and not by sight.

There is not one scripture in all of God's Word that says that God's 4th Commandment is now ABOLISHED and we are now commanded to KEEP Sunday as a Holy day.
Here's one:
Eph 2:14-16
For He Himself is our peace, who has made both one, and has broken down the middle wall of separation, having abolished in His flesh the enmity, that is, the law of commandments contained in ordinances, so as to create in Himself one new man from the two, thus making peace, and that He might reconcile them both to God in one body through the cross, thereby putting to death the enmity.

Here's another one:
Heb 8:8-13 Because finding fault with them, He says: “Behold, the days are coming, says the LORD, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judahnot according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day when I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt; because they did not continue in My covenant, and I disregarded them, says the LORD. For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the LORD: I will put My laws in their mind and write them on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people. None of them shall teach his neighbor, and none his brother, saying, ‘Know the LORD,’ for all shall know Me, from the least of them to the greatest of them. For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their lawless deeds I will remember no more.” In that He says, “A new covenant,” He has made the first obsolete.

That is a tautology.
Good catch. Another thing I consider when I think of the Law is that Jesus was talking to people under the Law. Jesus' Bible was the OT. Things changed at the resurrection.

God's universal laws are still in effect and always will be. We'll always be called to love our neighbor and to Love God. But these Laws emanate from the very nature of who God is I think. They are a reflection of HIM. As for the Sabbath, I grew up believing that we are no longer under the rules of the Sabbath but I do recognize that taking time out to rest one's body and to reflect on God's Word and renew our minds once again, is an important thing to do no matter what day of the week we're able to do it. Right?

It's so easy to get caught up in the day to day stuff and forget about what's really important. I think a Sabbath rest, however that's able to look for people, is important to help refocus on what's important.

It would be very helpful if you would post some New Testament examples of how the Churches were to keep the Sabbath under Christ as the head of the Church.

I would think that Paul of all people, would have some specific instructions for those in the Churches he raised up and taught.

Not quite that much!
Paul's Bible was the OT as was Peter's and Matthew's and Mark's and Luke's and John's and James' and Jude's.
God's universal laws are still in effect and always will be. We'll always be called to love our neighbor and to Love God.
If we love God and our neighbor we fulfill the law.
Rom 13:8 Owe no one anything except to love one another, for he who loves another has fulfilled the law.
Rom 13:10 Love does no harm to a neighbor; therefore love is the fulfillment of the law.
Gal 5:14 For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”

Hello Friend your question has been answered already. If you believe it has not please adress the posts linked below and the scriptures in them. If you cannot you should believe and Follow the Word of God.

Post # 59; Post # 61; Post # 64;

Look forward to your replay. If you cannot reply to my posts and scriptures then it is ok maybe you can pray about it and we can agree to disagree and remain friendsl :)

We must ask our heavenly farther to have eyes to see and ears to hear so that we can know his Words that he freely give to all who come. He is knocking at the door. Who will open the door and let him in?

Whosoever commits sin is a servant of sin to sin indeed. If the son shall make you free you shall be free indeed. Jesus says; Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me.

Whosoever abides in him sins not: whosoever sins hath not seen him, neither known him. Little children, let no man deceive you: he that does righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous.

He that commits sin is of the devil; for the devil sins from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil. We are sinners indeed but we have a Saviour for those that our Heavenly father have given ears to hear and eyes to see. If you have lost or broken your mirror how can you see yourself and him who calls you? If your lamp has gone out, how will you find your way when it is dark and the road is narrow?

Hi Jim nice to see you my friend how are you today?

Do you believe you found a scripture that says God's 4th Commandment is now ABOLISHED and we are now commanded to keep Sunday as a holy day now do you? Ok my friend let's have a look at your scripture and see if they do indeed say what you claim they say shall we?

Here's one:

Well Jim this scripture does not say that God's 4th Commandment is ABOLISHED and we are now commanded to keep Sunday as a Holy day does it?

Eph 2:14-16 For He Himself is our peace, who has made both one, and has broken down the middle wall of separation, having abolished in His flesh the enmity, that is, the law of commandments CONTAINED IN ORDINANCES, so as to create in Himself one new man from the two, thus making peace, and that He might reconcile them both to God in one body through the cross, thereby putting to death the enmity.

You choose to use this verse to mean God's LAW (10 commandments) are ABOLISHED right?

The Greek word for ordinances (I highlighted in the verse above) in this verse is the same word used in Colossians 2:14 that refers to what was nailed to the cross. Paul reveals in Colossians 2:16 that these ordinances had “meat and drink offerings,” “holy feast days,” “monthly new moon festivals” and “yearly sacrificial Sabbaths” that Ezekiel 45:17 ever so plainly reveals that this is what was practiced to make reconciliation for sin. In other words, the sacrificial law, which was part of the Mosaic Law. The Ten Commandments were written in the Ten Commandments while the Mosaic Law was written in the Mosaic Law.

Here is what the Strong's and Thayer dictionaries state on the Greek word dogma for ordinances used in this verse. "ORDINANCE" G1378 δόγμα dogma dog'-mah From the base of G1380; which means; CIVIL,CEREMONIAL or ECCLESIASTICAL LAW: - decree; Thayer Ordinance; dogma dog'-mah From the base of G1380 rules and requirements of the law of Moses.

As you can see, there is not so much as a hint of the Ten Commandments being mentioned. Strong's effectively labelled it the ceremonial law while the Thayer dictionary was even clearer stating it was the rules and requirements of the law of Moses. The ordinances are also called the Law of Moses. I have a more detailed study on this I will put it up as a thread latter on looking at dogma and Colossains 2:14-17. It would be nice to have some of your input being learned and all.

And here is another example for even more clarity. Before the cross in the Old Covenant there were both the Ten Commandments and the Ordinances as also seen from Luke 1:6 that alone proves they are not the same thing.

Luke 1
6, And they were both righteous before God, walking in all the COMMANDMENTS and ORDINANCES of the Lord blameless.

Hebrews 9:1-2 below states that the Old (first) Covenant also had ordinances and hence is clarifying that the New Covenant does not. And if the Old Covenant “had also” which means in addition to something. Then what is left? See Luke 1:6 again for the obvious answer. So to ask an obvious question.

Do these two verses refer to the moral law or the sacrificial law?

Note that the “worldly sanctuary” in verse 1 and “the candlestick, and the table, and the showbread; which is called the sanctuary” in verse 2 unmistakably belong to the temple or sanctuary which is where the animal sacrifices were carried out and hence the sacrificial law and not the moral law.

Hebrews 9:1-2
Then verily the first covenant had also ordinances of divine service, and a worldly sanctuary. 2 For there was a tabernacle made; the first, wherein was the candlestick, and the table, and the showbread; which is called the sanctuary.

And a little bit further into the chapter the author makes reference to the ordinances again and the meat and drink offerings Paul speaks of in Colossians 2:14. Note in verse 12 it says, “Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place.” I am sure it requires no explanation that this is not referring to the Ten Commandments but to blood sacrifices for sin which are the ordinances as stated in verse 1 and 10.

Hebrews 9:10-12
Which stood only in meats and drinks, and divers washings, and carnal ordinances, imposed on them until the time of reformation. 11 But Christ being come an high priest of good things to come, by a greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this building; 12 Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us.

It is very clear in the scriptures we are talking about Jesus becoming our sacrifice as the sacrificial lamb of God of which the Mosiac laws were shadows pointing to Jesus as our great sacrifice and lamb of God which takes away the SINS of the World for those who have faith. The scripture does not say that there is now no more 10 Commandments and you are free to SIN because SIN is the breaking of God's LAW it is the LAW of God that shows us that we are all SINNERS in need of a Savior. Without God's LAW you cannot find Jesus.

So my friend NO! Eph 2 does NOT say that God's 4th Commandment is abolished and we are now commanded to keep Sunday as a Holy day.

Here's another one:
Heb 8:8-13 Because finding fault with them, He says: “Behold, the days are coming, says the LORD, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah—not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day when I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt; because they did not continue in My covenant, and I disregarded them, says the LORD.

Once again these scriptures only support what this thread is saying. The NEW Covenant is God's LAW written in the HEART to LOVE through FAITH in those who BELIEVE and FOLLOW God's Word because LOVE is the fulfilling of God's LAW in those who believe.

So my friend NO! Hebrews 8 does NOT say that God's 4th Commandment is abolished and we are now commanded to keep Sunday as a Holy day.

............

In times of ignorance God winks at but now calls all men everywhere to REPENT for the KINGDOM of HEAVEN is at HAND (Acts 17:30-31)

Sunday worship is a tradition and teaching of man that has led many to break the commandments of God. Jesus says that if we follow the traditions of man that break the commandments of God we are not following God (Matthew 15:3-9)

Who should we follow the teachings and traditions of men or the Word of God? Who should we believe the Words of men or the Word of God?

Hello Friend your question has been answered already

I haven’t seen any scriptures of examples from Paul that direct us to how we are to observe the Sabbath today.

Just because a verse contains the word Sabbath, doesn’t mean their is any instruction as to how to observe the Sabbath.

This is especially true of Gentiles who live outside the country of Israel.

Paul wrote to those Gentiles and Jews who resided in Rome or Greece and gave no instruction on how they were to observe the Sabbath.

Quite the contrary, Paul dismissed the regulations that were previously mandated by Moses law, concerning Sabbaths and feast days, as insignificant, because the substance is Christ.

So let no one judge you in food or in drink, or regarding a festival or a new moon or sabbaths, which are a shadow of things to come, but the substance is of Christ. Colossians 2:16-17

  • which are a shadow of things to come, but the substance is of Christ.

Would Christ want us to give food to someone’s shadow or to the person?
Would Christ want us to clothe someone’s shadow or the actual person?
Would Christ want us to visit someone’s shadow or the actual person?

I don’t find any mention of keeping the Sabbath, in the example He gave, about the Day of Judgement when His servants are gathered before His throne to be judged according to their deeds.

31 “When the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the holy angels with Him, then He will sit on the throne of His glory. 32 All the nations will be gathered before Him, and He will separate them one from another, as a shepherd divides his sheep from the goats. 33 And He will set the sheep on His right hand, but the goats on the left. 34 Then the King will say to those on His right hand, ‘Come, you blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: 35 for I was hungry and you gave Me food; I was thirsty and you gave Me drink; I was a stranger and you took Me in; 36 I was naked and you clothed Me; I was sick and you visited Me; I was in prison and you came to Me.’ Matthew 25:31-36

Then the King will say to those on His right hand, ‘Come, you blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:
for I was hungry and you gave Me food;
I was thirsty and you gave Me drink;
I was a stranger and you took Me in;
I was naked and you clothed Me;
I was sick and you visited Me;
I was in prison and you came to Me.’

It has taken me a long while to read through all this thread. I have studied it with an open mind and prayed for guidance. I kept the 7th day for several years and have never felt a greater blessing than at that time. It is a wonderful blessing, a great opportunity to dwell on God's creation and love for mankind. What a wonderful world God gave us to live in, full of life and beauty. Look what we have done to it!
Matthew 5:17 tells us not one not or tittle of the law (which I take to be the 10 commandments) shall be changed.
Jesus did not come to change the law but to fulfill it.
Matthew 22:37 says to love God with all our heart all our soul and all our mind.

To my mind the first 4 commandments seem to cover this the rest cover love Thy neighbour.
As far as keeping the Sabbath holy that's easy. Jesus went to teach in the temple
He healed people too. Any thing that glorifies God is holy.
This thread has reawakened me to God's holy day. I wish to keep it holy from this day on.
I truly believe that you have to be true yo God and yourself. Prayer and study always takes you to the path God wants you to follow. After that if you follow that path you are following where God has led you, where He wants you to be at that particular time.
Ever searching ever learning.
Dig deep and follow. Who is right and who is wrong? Only God knows, but if we follow what we are truly believe we are with Him. Even the apostles were not shown more than they were ready for
So I accept the answers to my prayers and study as being right for me at this time.
Christian love and blessings to you all.

17 “Do not think that I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I did not come to destroy but to fulfill. 18 For assuredly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one tittle will by no means pass from the law till all is fulfilled.
Matthew 5:17-18

  • I did not come to destroy but to fulfill
  • one jot or one tittle will by no means pass from the law till all is fulfilled.

Jesus said He came to fulfill.

Do you believe He fulfilled the law?

Yes Jesus fulfilled the law
It says till all is fulfilled. Would that not include the 2nd coming?

What purpose then does the law serve? It was added because of transgressions, till the Seed should come to whom the promise was made; and it was appointed through angels by the hand of a mediator. Galatians 3:19

  • It was added because of transgressions, till the Seed should come

The Seed has come.

This is a reference to His first coming or appearing.

again

The law and the prophets were until John. Since that time the kingdom of God has been preached, and everyone is pressing into it. Luke 16:16

again

For He Himself is our peace, who has made both one, and has broken down the middle wall of separation, 15 having abolished in His flesh the enmity, that is, the law of commandments contained in ordinances, so as to create in Himself one new man from the two, thus making peace, Ephesians 2:15-16

  • having abolished in His flesh the enmity, that is, the law of commandments contained in ordinances

Again, this refers to His first coming and the work of the cross.

To me that eould mean I can take The Lord's name on vain -never

It would mean I can steal or murder and commit adultery. Because I have claimed Jesus as my saviour I can do anything and be saved.- no that would be sin.

Sabbath was made for man not man for the Sabbath.

Why is this one commandment the one that people pick to say we don't have to abide by.

The 7th day Sabbath is not an ordinance it is a commandment of God. If we don't need to keep one we don't need any. They were given as a guidance so that we would know right rom wrong.
Why would God put a blessing on a day then take it out?

Are you saying that I sin if I keep the 7th day Sabbath?

Oh no ma’am.

We as Christians need to obey His commandments, which came long before Moses was born.

However, observing them according to the law of Moses, which means in some cases, putting the guilty to death, is not how we observe them today, under the New Covenant.

14 You shall keep the Sabbath, therefore, for it is holy to you. Everyone who profanes it shall surely be put to death; for whoever does any work on it, that person shall be cut off from among his people. 15 Work shall be done for six days, but the seventh is the Sabbath of rest, holy to the Lord. Whoever does any work on the Sabbath day, he shall surely be put to death. Exodus 31:14-15

and again

“If a man is found lying with a woman married to a husband, then both of them shall die—the man that lay with the woman, and the woman; so you shall put away the evil from Israel. Deuteronomy 22:22
