Care to share your experience?

It was 1973, and I was 14 years old, living in Houston Texas.

My parents were Methodist and I had probably been to Church a handful of times, Easter, Christmas...

My mon and dad were divorced when I was 10.

My dad was a Narcotics detective with the Houston Police Department, and my mom was a Harris County District Attorney.
(The first female DA in Harris County).

I was attending a military academy in San Marcos Texas called
San Marcos Baptist Academy, and this would be my second year and was a freshmen.

Needless to say, the experience didn’t happen at the school since Baptist folks don’t believe in the Baptism with the Holy Spirit.


This was the year the movie the Exorcist has come out and everybody I knew had watched it and was talking about it.


I believe it was a Saturday and a friend had told me about a little church in town where “God” was speaking to the congregation through the Pastor. He invited me to go, and reluctantly I went.


Long story short, I was led in a simple prayer of salvation, and afterward the Pastor asked if anyone wanted the Baptism with the Holy Spirit to come on up.


So a handful of us went forward and when He laid hands on me it felt like a river of fire began to boil out of my belly and flowed out of me in a strange language I had never heard before, and didn’t understand.

After this I never went back to the Church.


I really didn’t know what had happened to me.


I had zero bible knowledge.

I told no one and just didn’t understand anything about what happened.

I just know I felt so clean.

Never really went to church, or discussed this with anyone.


There’s more to the story, but that is how I first experienced the Baptism with the Holy Spirit.


Later on I would get baptized in water.


Later on in 1999 I would be mentored by the brother of the man who laid hands on me in San Marcos and didn’t know it for the first couple of years I was with him.

Jesus is the Head of the body of Christ and the One who baptizes by the Holy Spirit. I do not have a notion in which I would think the HS was the baptizer apart from the will of Jesus. It is only by Jesus that one enters into the Kingdom of God. The Spirit is sent in His name. I am one with Jesus by that Spirit in me by the will and command of Christ Jesus.

So if I’m understanding you correctly, could we agree that water baptism is an action of faith, in response to the Gospel?


IOW, if we go swimming in a river or lake, it carries no action or response to the Gospel, we are just going under the water for enjoyment. However if their is a heart response of faith in action, to the Gospel, then we are demonstrating to God that we believe and desire to turn to Him and embrace His call to repent.


We want the life God has for us, and we acknowledge we need to turn away from this world and it’s ruler.


Can we agree on this or something similar as to our motive for water baptism?

Baptism can be viewed very much like a wedding ceremony. Commitments and promises are made. In a normative fashion, God gives us the Holy Spirit as a deposit and seal. Romans 6 helps us to understand this picture better.

I am one with Jesus as He in me. I think the method of receiving that Spirit vary's but it is always by Jesus's will and command. Holy Spirit baptizing me into Christ or Jesus baptizing with the Holy Spirit ? Is it the baptism that is promised or the Spirit that was promised? I have the promised Spirit. Christ in me. Jesus and I are one. The inward circumcision of the heart by the Spirit of God. This is how God writes the new covenant on the hearts of believers. The children of God. Those born anew by the Spirit of God.
I do not seek a 2nd work of grace that does the same thing.

i read jlb testimony and that is great coming out of a divided family of professionals. his experience is not going to be like that for everyone. everyone is NOT going to speak in tongues .ptl for those who for those who dont we are just as saved just as filled as those who do. we also have the same power the same Jesus. this si why i am backing out it will soon turn into just like the osas thread..

Of course I do.
Here is something to consider. Johns baptism, to which Mark 1:8 refers to is for repentance and this baptism takes place in water.

Why do you think John is connecting repentance with water baptism? I mean, why not just hear people's confession and be done with it?

In other words, what part of repentance did the role of water baptism have.

In terms of John making the path straight for the baptism Jesus would initiate (remission of sin), we see that the Holy Spirit brings us to repentance, which leads to the remission of sin and the indwelling of the Holy Spirit.

You understand types, so I expect you will be able to see this.

The promise of the Father is the baptism with the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in tongues as the pattern given to us in Acts chapter 2 and is the context.



And being assembled together with them, He commanded them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the Promise of the Father, “which,” He said, “you have heard from Me; for John truly baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.” Acts 1:4-5



Those who experienced the Promise of the Father on the Day of Pentecost spoke in tongues.


Just as the Gentiles did, ten years later.



And as I began to speak, the Holy Spirit fell upon them, as upon us at the beginning. Then I remembered the word of the Lord, how He said, John indeed baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit.’ If therefore God gave them the same gift as He gave us when we believed on the Lord Jesus Christ, who was I that I could withstand God?” Acts 11:15-17

i said i was through but it appears i dont have the sense not to.. if i have Jesus and i have salvation i have the HOLY GHOST .the filling of the spirit does not come from tongues . you keep posting your defense nobody that i see is denying .my point is not everyone uses tongues . i can preach with out using tongues and i can pray with out using tongues .. i figure it this way if God wanted me speak in tongues he would give me the Gift if what i got will get me to heaven and yes i am filled but need a refill . then i reckon i must done something right ..:amen you have strong emphases on tongues ,,but what about walking in the spirit

I wanted the gift of God. Christ in me. I prayed for it with great zeal. I have felt the surge of power in my chest area not my stomach and there was no burning. I am one with Jesus and born anew of the Spirit.

I agree in that Jesus baptizes with the Holy Spirit. Jesus is the one who sent the Spirit in Acts 2. Christ in us. That is oneness.
Acts 2
Exalted to the right hand of God, he has received from the Father the promised Holy Spirit and has poured out what you now see and hear.

This seems foreign to me.

I don't agree baptism is by the direction of the Spirit. It is by the direction or will of Christ Jesus and it is by the Spirit of God. How is that NOT Jesus baptizing WITH the Holy Spirit? Ref acts 2
