Kids Fighting Back

<dir> Joh 2:14 And found in the temple those that sold oxen and sheep and doves, and the ,changers of money sitting:
Joh 2:15 And when he had made a scourge of small cords, he drove them all out of the temple, and the sheep, and the oxen; and poured out the changers' money, and overthrew the tables;

Premeditated whipping he gave those guys ... and He hit first... I my book He was acting Godly

2Ti 3:16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness

Definition of THEOLOGY

: the study of religious faith, practice, and experience; especially : the study of God and of God's relation to the world

Jesus actions in the temple most certainly do not give us a model for how to deal with problems.

Things are more complicated than this. I do not have time to give the whole story here, but I suggest - following the thinking of some respected theologians - that what Jesus does in the temple is a symbolic act pre-figuring the judgement that will shortly be coming from God against the nation of Israel.

Jesus is not modeling "the right way for individual Christians to act" - He is engaging a bit of "theater" to make a point that God is about to judge the nation of Israel.

But of course, to say that Jesus "hit those guys" with the whip of cords is presumption. All it says is that he drove them from the Temple. One only need to cause fear in people to send them running.

Even that constitutes assault.

You probably think I fight all the time, am aggressive, violent, power hungry??

Couldn't be further from the truth.

I'm not going to waste my time defending what you think of me.

It's been many years since I was in school being picked on. I'm glad I stood up for myself like my dad taught me to. Not doing so leads to low self esteem among other problems.
Many times after defending myself I remember becoming friends with the ones picking on me. Funny how that works.

Speaking as a former victim of bullying, I only retaliated once. I bit the girl who was hitting me. Not my proudest moment but she backed off.

I'm not a mom but I'll definitely be teaching my kids that if someone hits them, use their words first. If that doesn't work, then hit them back. And then tell a teacher. Because no kid deserves to be treated that way.

I thought we now understood one another and agreed to call it quits?

Ok, so people backtracked on that and the thread started up again. Ok, that's fine but let's not let it get personal again.

for the record that part of about killing them all is a joke.

put seriously, drew and those like him.

when fdr gave his speech to congress(which i can post) prayer for victory over japan was a sin?

are we to forget that god will judge men and it wont be some gentile passive death when he does it in mass.

the flood wasnt, sodom and gommorah wasnt.

You seem to justify your position here by arguing for "what works".

Well, what "works for us" is not the gospel path. The gospel path entails obeying the kingdom of God principles that Jesus taught. And "hitting them back" is not a kingdom of God principle.

Mat 5:37 But let your communication be, Yea, yea; Nay, nay: for whatsoever is more than these cometh of evil.

You really seem to be confused or are just messing with us.

What happened to "I very much agree with this distinction. Although my posts may lead people to think otherwise, I am not advocating a "stand there and take it" response to violence. I would say that its OK to "fend off blows", or to try to "disarm", even through physical actions. But, as I think you are saying, once you cross the line to one where you make the injuring of your opponent the objective, then I think you have gone too far. I recognize this "line" is not clear in many situations. But I am not suggesting that people "let themselves get punched".

There is, of course, another possibility. And that is I have clarified my position and it is you who is confused.

I think my position is now relatively clear. I have agreed that "defensive actions" are probably ok, but I hardly see how "punching someone" is a defensive action. I was thinking more of using your arms to block blows, etc.

I grant that there is a fuzzy line here, but such is life. To me, telling a kid to "hit back" if other things do not work is not consistent with the gospel calling.

and by blocking blows that does what? nothing. i can use them blocks against you as i let people block kicks then hit them in the head with a punch or if i want to and if i was to hit that sweet spot in the arm. break that arm.

i have heard of an mma fighter breaking the other fighters arm and ended the fight with one solid kick.
