Live and Breathe the Bible?

I’ve heard it said that some people live and breathe the Bible. What I look for, though, is people who love the Lord with all their hearts, minds, and souls, and love their neighbors as themselves. What do you people look for?

People who live it not just talk it. However, I do not think that you can love God with all your heart and not love his word. It is a fine line to not get legalist for those who really get into the word. Love fulfills the law for those who believe in Jesus. Only God knows how to love. So we must get into the word to find out how to love both God and our fellow man.

The Lord teaches us how to love. The Bible contains many details how to love, also.

same :) ... yep those who love him and do his will ...

The parable of the Sower would indicate that those who are to be reckoned as having a true root in eternal life, have a continuing desire for the Word of God.

Otherwise, no desire to grow = no life.

On what two commandments hang all the law and prophets?

e:

There is no true love for the Lord God and one's neighbor if the person isn't interested to hear what God in His Word has to say.

The purpose of the Word, I believe, is to teach us to love the Lord with all our hearts, minds, and souls, and love our neighbors as ourselves.

I'm just a new believer, so feel free to disregard my input, but..I do think there's a danger in idolizing/deifying the Bible. I was told by a Pentecostal that the BIBLE is Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth. Its a great tool, a sacred text, but it has certain limitations. I mean, I understand that the Word is alive and speaks to each believer and each generation, but sometimes I think people overdo it. The Bible provides guidance, support, edification, comfort, and instruction from God, but it is not God; while I think that intensive Bible study is a good thing for believers, overemphasis on the text vs a living, vital relationship with the Trinity is (I think) counterproductive.

Then again, I'm new at this and admittedly slack in my Bible study (not for the reasons outline above, just...I'm honestly a bit intimidated by it.)

Actually, the Lord said in the Psalms: 'Thou hast magnified Thy word above all Thy name'; we really should pay very special need to what God's Word says. The Lord Jesus and His atoning love for sinners is the central theme of the Bible.

Ah, but who is "the Word"? ;)

Christ-Empowered, makes a great point. The physical word, the Bible, should never be placed before the Living Word, the Christ :yes

theLords:

How do we know the Lord Jesus, the living and eternal Word became flesh, except through what God has authoritatively laid down in His inspired Word? (My own feelings, whether or not I think they are 'inspired', can never take precedence over what the Word of God actually says.)

The Lord Jesus Himself said, in John 17.17:

"Sanctify them through Thy truth; Thy Word is truth."

I completely agree. I'm simply speaking about the legalistic approach some take towards the Bible.

Some people do idolize or deify the Bible, I think, and I believe this is unhealthy. There is much to be learned from the Bible, but it wasn’t meant to be worshiped, I’m sure.

The problem with what you've just said seems to be, How can we know the Lord Jesus authoritatively (He is God and definitely should be worshipped) if somehow the Word of God is supposedly less important or optional?

whose is that word?

in this context.
john 1;1

in the beginning was the word, and word was with God and the word was God, and the same was with the beginning

vs 2 as well.

that is the son, the messiah hamashiach.

if you read the ot, and the nt, it all points to the man christ.

he is above all.

The Word of God is God’s creation. Don’t worship his creation. Worship him. Right?

I know this thread has focused on scripture, but to answer your question, I look for people who are honest in their faith; who can say "I don't know" or "yes, I fall short with -----". Aside from looking for opportunities to reach the lost, when I'm looking for fellowship, I'm looking for someone who honestly desires to know Him more.

I was "that guy" who didn't care enough that it mattered. I've been so changed, I simply don't know that person anymore. I can't relate to him, and I can't relate to people who can go day-to-day putting the Lord on a shelf. What could possibly be more important than this? So, when I meet a person to seeks to draw near to Him, who just wants to honestly talk matters of faith out in an honest way, I'm hooked. It's those who can't seem to let their guard down out of foolish pride and "know all the answers" that I'm not looking for.
