Marianne Williamson

This popped up in the Bible Study forum (http://christianforums.net/Fellowship/index.php?threads/contending-for-the-faith.74906/#post-1440001) and is so very appropriate here:

“A Personal Relationship with Jesus

Sometimes it is necessary to stress that Christianity is primarily a relationship with Jesus rather than a set of ideas about Jesus. The reason we do this is because no one is saved by believing a set of ideas. The devil believes most of the truths of Christianity. We need to stress that unless a person has a living trust in Jesus as Savior and Lord, all the orthodoxy in the world will not get him into heaven.

Objective Truth

But if our stress on the personal relationship with Jesus leads us to deny that there is a set of truths essential to Christianity, we make a grave mistake. There are truths about God and Christ and man and the church and the world which are essential to the life of Christianity. If they are lost or distorted, the result will not be merely wrong ideas but misplaced trust. The inner life of faith is not independent from the doctrinal statement of faith. When doctrine goes bad, so do hearts. There is a body of doctrine which must be preserved.“

Which is exactly what I’ve been saying.

From that quote of Allen Wynne's. "yet people who claim to be Christians quote her."
Note my signature?
If you quote someone it means you respect what they espouse.
You're quoting someone who is into new age garbage.
There's plenty to be quoted about love without using someone like her.
The point being made here is that Williamson is not Christian,,,not you.

Of course it's important that to claim Christianity one must have a set list of beliefs.

One cannot just mention the name of Jesus and then state all sorts of nonsense and still call themselves Christian. Imagine what a confusion we'd be in!

I'd like to post the nicene Creed but can't right now. No computer.
It was established expressly for the purpose of describing the beliefs necessary in order to be called a Christian, in 325 AD. And why? Because of heresies that were circulating. Much as today.

I think I read the OP as it was intended to be understood.
Also, I would remind you if you look up the page you'll notice the Administrator here, Reba, concurred with the observations of Ms. Williamson that is in my signature.
Lastly, I believe our faith and relationship with Emmanuel is personal. I do not judge anyone who affirms faith in Emmanuel, as does Ms. Williamson, as not being Christian. God knows.
I would think a calm moment and a cool head would prevail here for a moment among participants in this discussion who appear to be emotionally upset by the work of Ms.Williamson. How you are talking to one another and about a self-identified Christian, Ms.Williamson. This is a public place. How do you appear in your relationship with Christ here? As you speak words to this topic when the Holy Spirit of God indwells you and is there to lead you and bring you peace.

"Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you ought to answer each person."

Guys this thread has gotten way out of hand,.. who the heck really cares about whether or not this lady is a Christian? So much fuss over something as stupid and ridiculous as that? Now this thread was started by something that was totally against the TOS in the first place. Assuming that somebody is a non-Christian just because of their signature is not only stupid, it's against the rules. Am I the only one to point this fact out here!? I like a lot of different atheists,.. some on this forum. Just because I like what they say does that make me one myself? Now come on guys please leave my friend UberMink alone. She is allowed to have whatever she wants in her signature as long as it goes with the rules. We really need to stop this madness and move on.

I think my speech is gracious.
That doesn't mean I have to accept someone telling me they're Christian when it's clear they are not.
It's your prerogative to admire this person, but she plainly is not Christian.
Christian scientists also have stolen ideas from the Bible. Are they Christian?
The JW know the Bible very well and speak about the son of God. Are they Christian?
Yes, Christian's do have the right to admonish those who say they are when they are not.

I think you need to move on, like you said you were going to. This is a very serious issue and it is so unfortunate that a few of you are unable or unwilling to see that.

We're not discussing her signature.

I will I promise, but my friend is really upset about this and I just had to stand up for her. You might be a moderator but that doesn't mean that you're always right. And I'm sorry but was this not the opening post?

This woman is not a Christian yet people who claim to be Christians quote her.
I always wondered why people who claim Christianity will quote non-Christians as a source of inspiration.
Is there not enough Christian literature to inspire some people?

Yes. What about it? There is no implication that someone isn't a Christian, apart from Marianne Williamson.

Allan said that he always wondered why people who claim Christianity will quote non-Christians for inspiration. Now maybe that doesn't directly state that she is a non-Christian but it is still questioning her faith since she is quoting her.

Lastly, I believe our faith and relationship with Emmanuel is personal.
In one sense it is personal but in another it isn't, particularly in the case of Ms. Williamson who is promoting New Age beliefs couched in Christian language. She is publically promoting something that sounds Christian but isn't. That is what the Bible refers to as false teaching and there are significant warnings about such teachings and the teachers that espouse them.

I do not judge anyone who affirms faith in Emmanuel, as does Ms. Williamson, as not being Christian. God knows.
Which or whose Emmanuel? As I pointed out previously, Mormons and JWs claim to be Christians yet their views of God and Jesus are vastly different from orthodox Christianity and from each other. One simply cannot believe Jesus to be whatever or whomever they want and be a Christian.

I would think a calm moment and a cool head would prevail here for a moment among participants in this discussion who appear to be emotionally upset by the work of Ms.Williamson.
There may be one participant who is emotionally upset but certainly not "participants".

I've quoted atheists. Wisdom is wisdom and making sense is making sense.
Hi Papa, I can't believe you said that. (Rom. 1:18-32) Men rejected God for their own wisdom, so God turned them over to it... To the believer, Christ is our wisdom (1 Cor. 1:29-31)...Look at what the wisdom of man has done to this world. There is no wisdom in the Adamic nature... and Adam walked with God. We can't have two masters....men or God. That is not my thought or wisdom of the matter, but that is the way it is. You must be born again. This world and it's principles should hate, because it hated Christ (John 15:17-19) (Matt. 10:21-22). We need to make a stand, carnal knowledge is corrupted. It is a battle (Gal. 5:16-18)
In Christ, who is our wisdom and our righteousness.

Well, believe it or not, I said it. Truth belongs to God no matter who says it.

For example, I'd never recommend this lady but she said this:
Forgiveness is not always easy. At times, it feels more painful than the wound we suffered, to forgive the one that inflicted it. And yet, there is no peace without forgiveness. Marianne Williamson

It's true. But in this case I don't need her to quote since I have many other sources. but quoting her words isn't of itself wrong

Promoting her is IMHO

Thank you Papa! :clap It's about time somebody finally said that. Quoting somebody and promoting their religion and or belief are two different things here folks. So can we please just all get along here and be nice to one another and love each other like Jesus wants us too?
