Monday Mayhem!! Top Ten Inventions of the 20th Century

Lazer?

(Sorry, I like 2nd post: The dud list-- just got excited to try and get my name on the 1st list, lol)
lol that was my nickname in the national guard.

i was asked what laser stood for as acroynm and i was correct.

microwave energy is patented as maser btw.

I'd say wireless radio and the submarine. I know that the earliest version of the radio was more like a "radio telephone." During WWI there were people who had to run the wire connecting each unit. I also know that as far back as the Revolutionary war, Washington oversaw a trial of a very early version of the sub. But the true sub was developed before WWI, with the nuclear sub being developed in the 1950's.

Hey, nice shot!! From beyond the three point line! Good on you! :thumbsup

mike hates us all
Twa? Wha? Really? Me?

:lol

The second post got pretty long, so I don't blame people for missing words like "transistor". One more to go, and it's no surprise to me that it's the last one.

To be honest, this was a head scratcher, but they give a reason why. When all is said and done, we'll see how you guys feel about it. I'll just say this much, because if anyone's looking for a line of reasoning among the answers, they will not likely lead to this one. It's very simple, low technology.

I feel like Alex Trebek. I have all the answers, and it's so easy to sound smart from this end of the game. (and yet I still don't pull it off)

One more to go!

Here's a little something to make Mondays not so mundane. It's the Monday Mayhem Top Ten List! (queue the music)

I've upgraded the software this week with a few enhancements; call it TopTen 2.0. Here I will introduce the OP2, where I will keep editing the second post with updated incorrect responses. As in the past, the OP will be populated with the correct responses as they are given. Another added feature will be the ultimate Grand Prize: Champion of the Top Ten List. Points will be awarded to each correct response as follows:

#1 = 10 points
#2 = 9 points
...
#10 = 1 point

When the contest is finished, points will be tallied, and a new Champion will be crowned. What does the Champion receive? By participating in this contest, each member has read and understands that they are bound by the penalty of a public flogging on the board to place a note of congratulations on the Champion's profile board within 24 hours of him/her being crowned.

Get it? Agree to it? Good!

Remember, the SAME RULES APPLY:
1. No cheating by looking for this or any other similar list that would give you an unfair advantage. This is on your honor.
2. Only 1 response per post, but you are free to post as many times as you'd like.
3. I'll post the link to the list when it is completed.

So, this week's Top Ten List is... Top Ten Inventions of the 20th Century. There is no explanation of how they arrived at this list, and I stress "they". This isn't my list, and no endorsement by me should be implied.

Let's have at it! You guess 'em, and I'll fill 'em in! Now, git guessin'!!
yah know i am not an aeronautical engineer but since i live near nasa its not called rocketry. its call areonautical engineering. This field includes, rockets, and jet engines or other means of propulsion by which a person may fly or enter outer space.

and on transistors i think the pentium 2 processor did away those for the most part.as cars use transistors to power the injectors or any electric motor.

All that fancy talk Jason and i still dont see you on the list :waving
that is because these are subjective, most dont know that the transistor is out of date and isnt even used in pc all that much. in fact, i'm sure they use them only for use in motor acutation

there are two types of those pnp and npn(the later most common) and i bet none of you could tell me what those mean and how a transistor works.

i should add diode. or better yet led(light emiting diode) which is used by most displays on clocks.

telephone
the telephone once again is invented by alexender graham bell in 1876. he is the person that all those ma bells are or were name after that are now in some parts of american telegraph and telephone. why do i know this,.my mom retired from bellsouth formerly southern bell company. also now part of att.

1 answer per post please. :D

I guess Jason has sidled his way over to be my side-kick or color commentator. There's no money in this gig, Jason! :lol

Well, there you have it. Your Top Ten Inventions from the 20th century. Thanks for playing along. How Alabaster came up with the ball point pen, I have no idea. I've attached the link with the list and reasons for each selection, and you can be the judge of their choices.

Remember your obligation to prop the Champion on his/her Wall that you agreed to based upon the OP. All hail this week's champion, the one, the only, all the way from South Africa in all its glory... l'Chante! :bounce

She can expect that each and every person who participated in this exhibition flood her wall with worthy accolades, can't she. :yes

Thank you, :nod thank you, :nod thank you :nod. You may leave messages, but please note that I accidently reported Mike for congratulating me on my brilliance.

I still think toilet paper should be on there. :bigfrown
