In july 04 while in a village near the pesch river, in the province of kunar. We were conducting a meeting with the locals,my platton, was forcepro, and a few of us escorted the ca team across the river on a raft with a rope to pull onself across a rapids, the first team made it , the second team didnt, the raft broke away and the soldeirs(three threw all there gear in the river in order to be able to swim). At first i was in disbelief and all hell broke loose we mounted up unto our vehicles(those that pulled security on the vehicles) and we tried to follow the river and could not for one vehicle hit a bolder the big enough to crack the engine oil pan in two, and my self and two others stayed with the vehicl too pull security.

One the way out, once we extracted the vehicle with a towbar, I cried to the lord( i did pray several times before) and asked him to spare them, his response was because you have asked me no lives shall be lost, and no soldier died and even the weapons were recovered, two of these soldiers is still serve with.

I have more like stories if anyone is interested, any vet will, but it's a whole lot better when you have the Lord almighy with you in combat, as kim0012 knows.

That's awesome Jason! Just like Paul and the shipwreck. Nothing like knowing that God is watching over you.

I'll guess i'll add one more, about a few weeks later a team was returning from Jalalabad, the truck brakes were working pedal went to the floor, the road to from assadabad to jalalabad was and still very treacherous, with cliffs both sides. The driver had a choice go over the cliff or take his chance with using the mountain to stop them, he chose the mountain, the gunner was thrown and knocked out and the truck nearly(2") ran over his head before he gain consciousness, the driver had a busted lip and the passenger had a chipped tooth.

The day that this happened is when the Lord told me that though the enemy plans to destroy your platoon no weapon formed against it shall prosper( or something similiar), i was told and cowered out to write this on a cheese board, I felt that it might anger the muslim and cause a riot and local jihad, I have no problem putting my neck out there but when it comes to others no. especially without there consent.

I received this word about two days before this happened

Maybe those brakes were from Walmart....

That's great how God was speaking to you and kept you and your platoon safe.

Jason, I enjoyed reading your posts. My son, John Massi, is serving in Afghanistan, and I would appreciate your prayers for him.

the roads in afhganistan are soo harsh that it's not coomon for brake lines to break off from the master cylinder( that was the case) or to have ball joints ripped in two or the pitman arm snap in half. This even happens when we travel at 8kph(5mh)

That's crazy that you were at Jalalabad.. that's exactly where I am now..

it's definitely an experience here.. things were pretty quiet for the first few months and then as soon as summer hit, that's when it seemed like hell broke loose..

The unit that we replaced didn't experience as much as we have already.. but hopefully things will slow back down soon.

The first two mortars that hit, I was at work both times.. then the third one, I was in the shower.. and I don't remember where I was for the other ones.. the one where I was in the shower scared me the most..lol i was like what the heck...??? seriously..??

I just remember getting dressed as fast as I could and running from the shower trailor towards the bunker with my shower bag, towel, flip flops, and hair soaking wet.. lol the other soldiers thought it was funny..I didnt..

It must be terrifying and energy sapping - always having to be on your guard, never knowing what will happen.

It also seems that you can't even take a shower in peace! :D

one get used to it, what happens is that high you always want upon return from country, ptsd, the nightmares, the urge to feel that edge again, it will aways be there unless the Lord heals that. I still have it at times, i do bjj to relieve that stress. I have one more and will decide which one to post later.

My prayers too for John and Kimberly, and Jason I was so blessed reading here...thank you.

Thank you, Lovely, for your prayers for our son John Massi in Afghanistan.

Thanks for your prayers everyone.. 3 more months to go.. can't wait

After a slow week, today was pretty active.. our FOB got hit and an aircraft was hit with an RPG.. but fortunately everyone is okay

I'm glad I wasn't in the shower this time..

Each time you go to somewhere like Afganistan, how long are you there for? And how long do you get back at home before you need to go back to Afganistan?
