One more question about Hell: if consigned there, does one spend all of eternity alone in utter pitch black darkness?

Literally to never see the light of day EVER AGAIN?!?!

What a most terrifying thought. And I thought being set ablaze on fire in unimaginable pain for every second of every day, of every week, of every month of every year for all eternity was bad enough.

But to spend ALL OF ETERNITY all by yourself in utter pitch black darkness?!?!? And you're conscious of it all the entire time.

Why, God, why? Why did You create me? Why didn't you just leave me in nothingness?

God gave His only Son so that might not happen out of love. If you refuse that offering that's on you.
Your meeting with Jesus, the one who judges, can be a joyful one.

If Jesus asked you, "Do you want to do evil?" If your answer is no, then you have a beginning with Him.

Open the door to Him in prayer. He suffered for your sake as well. We were all purchased for God by His "blood". He understands suffering by experience of life as a man in this world.

The word is near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart,” d that is, the message concerning faith that we proclaim: 9If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved. 11As Scripture says, “Anyone who believes in him will never be put to shame.” e 12For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile—the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on him, 13for, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”

"If your hand causes you to sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter life crippled than with two hands to go to hell, to the unquenchable fire. And if your foot causes you to sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter life lame than with two feet to be thrown into hell. And if your eye causes you to sin, tear it out. It is better for you to enter the kingdom of God with one eye than with two eyes to be thrown into hell, ‘where their worm does not die and the fire is not quenched.’"
Mark 9:43-48 ESV

“Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a dragnet that was cast into the sea and gathered some of every kind, which, when it was full, they drew to shore; and they sat down and gathered the good into vessels, but threw the bad away. So it will be at the end of the age. The angels will come forth, separate the wicked from among the just, and cast them into the furnace of fire. There will be wailing and gnashing of teeth.”
Matthew 13:47-50 NKJV

“When the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the holy angels with Him, then He will sit on the throne of His glory. All the nations will be gathered before Him, and He will separate them one from another, as a shepherd divides his sheep from the goats. And He will set the sheep on His right hand, but the goats on the left. Then the King will say to those on His right hand, ‘Come, you blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: for I was hungry and you gave Me food; I was thirsty and you gave Me drink; I was a stranger and you took Me in; I was naked and you clothed Me; I was sick and you visited Me; I was in prison and you came to Me.’ Then the righteous will answer Him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry and feed You, or thirsty and give You drink? When did we see You a stranger and take You in, or naked and clothe You? Or when did we see You sick, or in prison, and come to You?’ And the King will answer and say to them, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me.’ Then He will also say to those on the left hand, ‘Depart from Me, you cursed, into the everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels: for I was hungry and you gave Me no food; I was thirsty and you gave Me no drink; I was a stranger and you did not take Me in, naked and you did not clothe Me, sick and in prison and you did not visit Me.’"
Matthew 25:31-43 NKJV

Then I saw another angel flying in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach to those who dwell on the earth—to every nation, tribe, tongue, and people—saying with a loud voice, “Fear God and give glory to Him, for the hour of His judgment has come; and worship Him who made heaven and earth, the sea and springs of water.” And another angel followed, saying, “Babylon is fallen, is fallen, that great city, because she has made all nations drink of the wine of the wrath of her fornication.” Then a third angel followed them, saying with a loud voice, “If anyone worships the beast and his image, and receives his mark on his forehead or on his hand, he himself shall also drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out full strength into the cup of His indignation. He shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels and in the presence of the Lamb. And the smoke of their torment ascends forever and ever; and they have no rest day or night, who worship the beast and his image, and whoever receives the mark of his name.”
Revelation 14:6-11 NKJV

And He said to me, “It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. I will give of the fountain of the water of life freely to him who thirsts. He who overcomes shall inherit all things, and I will be his God and he shall be My son. But the cowardly, unbelieving, abominable, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.”
Revelation 21:6-8 NKJV

Matthew 25:30
30 "Throw out the worthless slave into the outer darkness; in that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
"

Matthew 22:13
13 Then said the king to the servants, Bind him hand and foot, and take him away, and cast him into outer darkness; there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

Jude 1:12-13
12 These are hidden reefs at your love feasts, as they feast with you without fear, shepherds feeding themselves; waterless clouds, swept along by winds; fruitless trees in late autumn, twice dead, uprooted;
13 wild waves of the sea, casting up the foam of their own shame; wandering stars, for whom the gloom of utter darkness has been reserved forever.

The children of Light dwell in Light but those who spurn the Light who is God, can only dwell in darkness. This is what it means, in part, to be separated from God. Apart from Him, in His absence, there is only darkness.

Psalm 36:7-9
7 How precious is your steadfast love, O God! The children of mankind take refuge in the shadow of your wings.
8 They feast on the abundance of your house, and you give them drink from the river of your delights.
9 For with you is the fountain of life; in your light do we see light.

1 Timothy 6:14-16
15 ....He who is the blessed and only Sovereign, the King of kings and Lord of lords,
16 who alone possesses immortality and dwells in unapproachable light, whom no man has seen or can see. To Him be honor and eternal dominion! Amen.

Why would God not give to those who've rejected Him and made themselves their own god, dying unrepentant in their rebellion toward Him, what they want? They don't love Him; they love themselves; and so, God let's them have themselves for all of eternity.

Why did God create you? You've already been told why. God made you for Himself; you exist for His purposes, not your own. Until you settle under this fact and accept God as your Maker and King, living your life in the way God made for you to do, you will continue to find life an unhappy, dissatisfying thing.

One is only confined to the lake of fire if they refuse to accept Jesus as their Lord and Savior. John 3:5-7; Romans 10:9-10.

Hosea 4:6 My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children.
Hosea 4:7 As they were increased, so they sinned against me: therefore will I change their glory into shame.

Rev 21:1 And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea.
Rev 21:2 And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.
Rev 21:3 And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God.
Rev 21:4 And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.
Rev 21:5 And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful.
Rev 21:6 and he said unto me, It is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely.
Rev 21:7 He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God and he shall be my son.
Rev 21:8 But the fearful, and unbelieving, and abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.

Revelation 20:11 And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them.
Revelation 20:12 And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.
Revelation 20:13 and the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works.
Revelation 20:14 and death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.
Revelation 20:15 and whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.

Please read the book of John and the book of Acts as this will teach you about our relationship with Christ Jesus and the anointing of the Holy Spirit.

Luke chapter 16. Jesus taught two sides of the Gulf. Righteous on side of paradise. And the wicked and spiritually dead in sheol called hell. It's holding place until judgement day. The inner torture is feeling Shame, fear, sadness, disgrace. Its a horrible place. It's separation from God, and no love. Acts chapter 3. Convert to Christianity, repent and study sound doctrine. The consequences of refusing to repent and rejection of Jesus salvation, is going to sheol. Take care.

We have always been taught hell is a place where non-believers in God go to for eternity, but according to scripture this is not what hell is. Hell is described as the world of the dead, a place where the departed go that have died as being lowered in a grave/pit. There they are kept until the return of Christ to either stand in Gods Great White Throne judgment for those who are not found written in the Lambs Book of Life, Rev 20:11-15, or those who have died in Christ that will stand in his judgment to give an account for the things done here on earth, 2 Corinthians 5:10.

Hell is not the lake of fire as God gives us a description of the lake of fire as in fire and brimstone which can be used literal as in Sodom and Gomorrah burned to ashes and as a metaphor for torment, suffering, punishment or as Matthew 8:12 describes it as outer darkness. The New Testament description is a bottomless pit (abyss) (Revelation 20:3), a lake (Revelation 20:14), darkness (Matthew 25:30), death (Revelation 2:11), destruction (2 Thessalonians 1:9), everlasting torment (Revelation 20:10), a place of wailing and gnashing of teeth (Matthew 25:30), and a place of gradated punishment (Matthew 11:20-24; Luke 12:47-48; Revelation 20:12-13), everlasting fire Matthew 25:41, everlasting punishment, Matthew 25:46, lake of fire burning with brimstone.

Strong's Exhaustive Concordance: Hell
Hebrew # 7585 Sheol, Hades, or the world of the dead, grave, hell, pit
Greek # 86 place of departed souls, grave, hell
Greek # 1067 Gehenna, the Valley of the sons of Hinnom South of Jerusalem, figuratively and literal of place of punishment.
Greek # 5020. Tartaroo tar-tar-o'-o from Tartaros (the deepest abyss of Hades); to incarcerate in eternal torment:--cast down to hell.

Hades is the English of the Greek word ᾅδης, just as Gehenna is the English for the Greek word γέεννα and Tartaros is the English word for the Greek word ταρταρόω

The English word hell, back in 1611, meant about the same as Hades, that being covered or unseen as in grave/pit. We do not see those in the grave as they are unseen to the eye as they are covered with dirt, or some placed in a tomb. The word hell is derived from the Saxon helan, to cover, and signifying merely the covered, or invisible place. The habitation of those who have gone from the visible terrestrial region to the world of spirits.

Jude 1:7 clearly states an example of eternal fire. This is the same Greek word that is used for everlasting fire and everlasting punishment as used in Matthew 18:8 and Matthew 25:41,46 (Notice: The place, as no real name is given, where the unsaved go is everlasting punishment, and not everlasting punishing. The punishment is eternal in its results, not in its duration. Unquenchable fire is a fire that cannot be quenched or put out until everything in its path is burned up.

Gehenna - Valley of Hinnom, Old Testament as Gai Ben-Hinnom, Tophet, in the Talmud as Gehinnam

The oldest historical reference to the valley is found in Joshua 15:8, 18:16 which describe tribal boundaries. The next chronological reference to the valley is at the time of King Ahaz of Judah who sacrificed his sons there according to 2 Chronicles. 28:3. Isaiah does not mention Gehenna by name, but the burning place, Isaiah 30:33 in which the Assyrian army are to be destroyed, may be read Topheth, and the final verse of Isaiah which concerns the corpses of the same or a similar battle, Isaiah 66:24 , where their worm does not die. Also read Jeremiah 19:6-8 as a reference to the dead bodies that are thrown over the wall of Jerusalem into Gehenna/Tophet.
(Part of this is from https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gehenna and the last part starting with Jeremiah 19:6-8 is my own writing.)

Other member is correct. Sheol is place for non believers and spiritually dead are Christian people who are complicate in listening to traditions of men and false doctrine. Just because Christian thinks there on right path.,are involved in traditions of men and false doctrine, won't get them in paradise.
Mark chapter 9 :42. And who so ever shall offend one of these little ones that believe in Me, it is better for him that mill stone were hanged about his neck, he were cast in the into the sea. Any shepherds who mislead Christian people, will go to sheol called hell. False teachers are spiritual murderers. They have innocent blood on there hands. Getting involved in traditions of men and false doctrine has consequences.
9:47. And if thine eye offend thee, pluck it out . It is better for thee to enter kingdom of God with one eye, than two eyes to be cast into hell fire. Get sway from any church or shepherd's who promote traditions of men. These fake shepherds will lead you into satans camp. It leads to sheol.
Jeremiah chapter 4:31. For I have heard a voice as of a woman in travail , and the anguish as of her that bring forth her child the voice of the daughter of zion, that bewail herself , that soread her hands, saying, Woe is me now for my soul is wearied because of murderers. False teachers do the will of satan. There are non believers who are pastors who teach traditions of men and false doctrine. They have extensive knowledge of God's word, to a extent. They don't have holy Spirit. Fake shepherds are spiritual murderers, and leading Christian people to hell. Again, hell is holding place for the wicked and spiritually dead. The spiritually dead better give there false religion during milliumum and repent. The false teachers are flirting with the lake of fire. In the Hebrew. Abedah in Hebrew means - destruction, lost, Hades, sheol.
Pesha in Hebrew means+ rebellion, sin. The false brethren are leading rebellion against God by teaching traditions of men and false doctrine, and spiritually destroying innocent people.
Pseudedi daskalos in Greek means - false teachers.
Apoleia means in Greek - perish, destruction.
Hugies in Greek means - sound doctrine.
Pseudonumos in Greek means - falsey called.
Chedel in Hebrew means - state of the dead.
I should have went back to the Greek and Hebrew texts, massorah. Jeremiah chapter 14:14. The Lord said unto me, The prophets prophecy Lies in my Name, I sent them not, neither have I commannded them, they prophecy into a false vision and diunation, and a thing of nought, and deceit of the heart. Practice spiritual discernment, between traditions of men and sound doctrine. If its not holy Spirit, then its evil spirits at work. Stay away from false teachers. Peace.

And I thought being set ablaze on fire

It appears to me that folks down there are in fire rather than on fire. (Luke 16:24)

In point of fact Jesus described perdition as a furnace which, to my thinking, is a
place where people bake rather than burn. (Matt 13:40-42)

But to spend ALL OF ETERNITY all by yourself in utter pitch black darkness?!?!?

There is a situation Jesus called "outer darkness" (Matt 8:12, Matt 22:13, Matt
25:30) but I suspect it isn't the absence of illumination, rather, it's a rock-bottom
emotional state suffered by folks who've undergone the permanent loss of
something very dear.

The 2nd resurrection is the resurrection of the wicked to be condemned as stated in Rev. They are consigned to the lake of burning sulfur forever. That is the end point of the wicked. "suffering" "tormented"

Hell is like madness: it is losing your head, but on a deeper level—it is losing your soul. Everything in hell is lies, deception, distortion, and the consequences of these. Suffering is the result.

When an individual is honest with himself and tries to find the truth, there is no hell but light, and immediately starts desiring the light. If you don’t want the light, it’s because you are accepting wrong ideas about yourself and about life.

Wrong ideas rot your mind, causing depressive tendencies and similar issues. These ideas must be removed.

According to the bible yes its forever

Sheol, Hades, place of the dead, grave, hell, pit . its the place of destruction . the dead body is consumed by the earth .well it would be if placed in the dirt . the laws of the land for the most part don't allow that ,regardless its still known as Sheol, Hades, place of the dead, grave, hell, pit .

Literally to never see the light of day EVER AGAIN?!?!

God is the Light. Those who reject Him can only dwell in darkness.

What a most terrifying thought. And I thought being set ablaze on fire in unimaginable pain for every second of every day, of every week, of every month of every year for all eternity was bad enough.

Well, consider Christ's parable of the Rich Man and Lazarus (Luke 16:19-31). The Rich Man in hell was able to think, and speak, and see. He was desperately thirsty but he wasn't writhing in agony, his body bubbling and crisping like bacon in a frying pan. He actually held a conversation with far-distant Abraham and was able to think of his family who were headed to the same place he was in.

I think the real torment (not torture) of hell is being left to oneself for all of eternity, permanently cut off from the Source of all Light, Life and goodness, who is God. We make terrible gods, you see. We are too small, too ignorant, too weak to occupy such a role but we try to fill it anyway and, when we do, the result is disaster - often of an eternal sort.

But to spend ALL OF ETERNITY all by yourself in utter pitch black darkness?!?!? And you're conscious of it all the entire time.

Why, God, why? Why did You create me? Why didn't you just leave me in nothingness?

This end is not what God intends or desires for any of His creatures. "God is not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance" (2 Peter 3:9). He takes no pleasure in the death of the wicked. (Ezekiel 33:11). And so, He has made a way through Jesus Christ, the God-Man, to reconcile you to Himself that you might enjoy Him for all of eternity.

2 Corinthians 5:20-21
20 ...We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God.
21 For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.

Matthew 11:28-30
28 Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”

This is why God made you.

So, then, why are choosing death? Why are choosing yourself over God? Why aren't you living according to the purpose for which God made you? You can do so at any time. Why not now?

And you're conscious of it all the entire time.

According to Gen 2:7, soul is that part of human existence that makes people a
sentient being.

The human soul is sturdy, but not indestructible. Although the soul can't be
destroyed by the hand of man, it can be destroyed by the hand of God; and
apparently a number of souls are on track for exactly that.

Matt 10:28 . . Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul;
but rather fear Him which is able to destroy both soul and body in Hell.

Now, the rich man spoken of in Luke 16:19-31 remained sentient when he crossed
over to the other side; i.e. his soul survived the death of his body and went with
him down to the netherworld; which suggests to me that the Hell spoken of by Matt
10:28 is another place-- most likely the lake of fire depicted by Rev 20:11-15.

If so, then the folks who end up terminated in the lake will lose possession of their
souls, and consequently lose their sentience, viz: there's a possibility that our
BFF and our loved ones won't be conscious of their circumstances should they end
up in there.

Hell is a myth and a construct of man not God. The word translated to ‘hell’ is wrong and the correct translation should be Gehenna. Get yourself a bible that does not mistranslate the word and others such as ‘eternal’ God be with you.

Nothingness ?
He sent His Son to die for our sins !
Via repentance from sin, and baptism into Jesus' death, burial, and resurrection, we can be raised to walk in newness of life.
That new life is one without sin, so we can be raised to eternal life, instead of eternal destruction.

Hell is a myth and a construct of man not God.
Is it though? While "Hell" is a part of Greek mythology, does that mean the concept itself is not of God, or does God orchestrate certain beliefs of man, albeit incomplete as a shadow of things to come, so that he is more accepting of true beliefs?

The word translated to ‘hell’ is wrong and the correct translation should be Gehenna. Get yourself a bible that does not mistranslate the word and others such as ‘eternal’ God be with you.
Well, there are three words often translated as "hell"--hades, tartaroo/tartarus, gehenna. Hades is the Greek equivalent of the Hebrew Sheol and generally means "grave" or "pit." Tartaroo is only used once in the NT (2 Pet. 2:4). Gehenna is used 12 times and, as the final destination of unbelievers, corresponds to the lake of fire.

So, as Hell in Greek mythology is the final destination of the dead, or at least some of the dead, and a place of torment, Gehenna is as well. It is a place that Jesus gives his gravest warnings about, even using hyperbole that it is better to gouge out one's eye or cut off one's limb to avoid going there.

"Hell" is just an English word and was likely chosen so that English readers could understand what the reference to Gehenna meant.

Jesus described it as outer darkness.
Mat 22:13 Then the king said to the servants, 'Bind him hand and foot, take him away, and cast him into outer darkness; there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.'

The wicked were created for His glory.
Romans 9:22
What if God, wanting to show His wrath and to make His power known, endured with much long suffering the vessels of wrath prepared for destruction
Proverbs 16:4 The LORD has made everything for its purpose, even the wicked for the day of trouble.

Exodus 9:16 But for this purpose I have raised you up, to show you my power, so that my name may be proclaimed in all the earth.
Exodus 14:4 And I will harden Pharaoh's heart, and he will pursue them, and I will get glory over Pharaoh and all his host, and the Egyptians shall know that I am the LORD.”

God want's us to understand all His attributes. Everybody concentrates on "God is love." But wrath and power is also there.

Rahab of Jericho said this to the two spies she hid on the roof to protect them.
Joshua 2:10 For we have heard how the LORD dried up the water of the Red Sea before you when you came out of Egypt, and what you did to the two kings of the Amorites who were beyond the Jordan, to Sihon and Og, whom you devoted to destruction. 11 And as soon as we heard it, our hearts melted, and there was no spirit left in any man because of you, for the LORD your God, he is God in the heavens above and on the earth beneath.

You will glorify God one way or the other.

2 Corinthians 5:20 Now then, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were pleading through us: we implore you on Christ's behalf, be reconciled to God.
