I had my ear holes done with a gun. Although the piercing procedure went well and was almost painless they never really healed up, I was in pain most of the time when wearing earrings and I had to stop wearing them alltogether. I was twelve at that time and the holes have healed up and are closed now.
The pistol piercing destroys a lot more ear lobe tissue than a needle piercing. Plus, ear lobe pistol piercings are often done by jewelers or hair stylists in their shops instead of trained piercers under clean sterile conditions in a parlour.
I want to get my ears pierced again, but I'm gonna have them done with a needle this time. It's probably much safer, although more expensive (like 20-25€ each hole) and probably more painfull (but better a little more pain during the piercing but a good healing afterwards than a painless gun shot piercing that never heals well and hurts for years).

I take your point about going to a proper parlor: it's where professional piercers / tattooists and their clients are seriously committed over the long term, I guess. Albeit in a cool and benign sort of way, I suppose, do you find that parlor services can be a bit 'addictive'?

Like, you mentioned starter studs, but I guess you kept wanting to go back. It's kind of inviting, to return, maybe.

Amendment: re. going back: this refers to going back to the parlor, because of the range of services and better professional atmosphere, not to the other place! :)

Claudya, best thing to do is go to a parlor and have it done. You might feel a little out of place because some of those places can seem pretty rough, but it's the best way to do it.

Wanted to back....inviting to return?????????????? uh, I'm not sure just what your talking about! There is nothing inviting about school girls and their mom's. My point was, I was totally out of place. That was my FIRST time ever being in that place! And it was my last! I'm done with this thread. Sorry.

Feel out of place like a 220 pound goatee guy in a Claire's shop? :)
We don't have Claire's here, but I can imagine what kind of shop that is, and I'd feel out of place there, too. I'd rather belong to the rough looking crowd. ;)

Anyway, I'm still curious about your first piercing.

Hi Claudya:

They have Claire's in North America and Britain, and other countries, too, but maybe not in your area of Germany. In any case, sounds like you would prefer somewhere where they are more fully trained with the needle as opposed to the piercing gun, and have a wider range of services, maybe.

Yeah definitely. That piercing gun experience I had was bad enough.
And if the ear piercing goes well I'll be wanting more. :)

Yeah and not just in my earlobes. I was thinking of getting a navel piercing too. And other piercings I don't wanna talk about here. :)

Claudya: Oh okay. Anyway, I guess this thread is primarily about ears. Anyway, if I've understood you, for some of the other, maybe the Ladies' Locker Room section would be the best place to discuss it, really.
