Popular teachers you are wary of

OK. So, I go to Liberty Online. When you log in, they have this one part of the screen dedicated to stuff going on at the actual Liberty campus. Apparently, Beth Moore visited. I didn't know who Beth Moore is/was, so I googled it. And...

...wow. Lots of people for her, lots of people against her. Same for Rick Warren, same for Joyce Myers, so on and so forth. I'm new to all this. I know of Max Lucado...Chuck Colson...JI Packer...that's about it. I went to Teen Challenge, so I occasionally read old sermons and devotions by David Wilkerson.

Like I said, I don't know anything about Beth Moore. She's pretty, she seems to have a huge following, and there's plenty of detractors. Some of the anti-Beth Moore comments I read seemed a little sexist. I mean, OK, men and women are supposed to have different roles in the church, that's true, but it seems that they were being extra hard on her for being popular and female.

Blah blah blah...who are some popular Christian teachers out there you're wary/leery of? And why are so many people coming down so hard on The Shack?

I rarely watch TV ministries anymore (well, I can't anymore now...I got rid of cable). But wasn't Beth Moore the Christian nutritionalist who suddenly got exposed for not believing in the Trinity?

No, Beth Moore has often been on James Robinson's (who evangelized with Billy Graham) show. In my opinion she is a very good, conservative woman. Her main target is teaching women about living Godly lives.
Her husband's name is Keith but he is not the pastor Keith Moore who came out of Hagen's ministry.

im not saying she is a sinner or false prophet. just that I understand the jets thing. though Canadian air 300 aren't cheap to fly nor maintain. what message is that to the world? her home and the irs issue. it bothered me. can she be falsely accused? possible, and I think all charges were dropped but I still wonder. was it because they didn't have a good enough case and she wasn't really innocent? I don't know.

I believe that if we "test the spirit" According to 1 Jn 4:1-3 we will be in good shape to make the decision of whether or not we agree with what the person says. There are a lot of teachers out there that are teaching grace, forgiveness and love. Which i think it time that they be preached. And this is Not to condone living a life of sin, just because we have free access to forgiveness. That's not, in my mind, what forgiveness is for.

The truth is he has some outstanding teachings apart from his beliefs about wealth and prosperity. But I don't suggest anyone purposely watch him because of his distortions about wealth.

The problem with making choices on who is a good pastor or teacher or evangelist and who is not is Judgement.
Ummm this might be me you understand but are we told to not judge others lest we be judged ?

Yea I know this thread is just brothers and sisters shooting the breeze sharing chit chat on who is better and those to be leary of or that you are leary of any way....I get it, but still and this might just be me but I thought we were to build up the body of christ and edify the body of christ. Again my personal thoughts.....

Many types of people working for God to reach many types of people in need of God.
Now the one thing I learned is most of what you find out about God's workers are from the media... The media? Come on now that is thier job to discredit christian preachers etc...

One example.....A pastor was under fire for a time and the big thing the media pushed was the ministry is only taking your money..........Ok thier reason for this...........They found the letters and envelopes of thousands and thousands of members in the dumpster and the ministry head quarters.......Ok so I ask this, what are you to do with all of them? Build ware houses to store them and be called on wasting money?
They prayed over them and placed the names on list according to needs and prayer team members were to pray over them.......They got all sorts of crap dealt to them and for what? Just becareful what you judge your choices on.

Now please understand this is simply my intake and not written in stone and I am not pushing this belief or saying any one is wrong....Just sharing something that was shared with me at one time....

Disagreeing with someone's teaching and finding it problematic is not quite the same as judging their character. Though a lot of people who do speak out against them seem to think you can't have one without the other.

I understand what you are saying. I mean there are those who teach that I will not readily listen to as well.
I had it brought to my attention a few times and been convicted about it a few times so I thought I would just throw this out there and perhaps it may actually help someone.....I have no desire to say any one is wrong in this thread. Just a simple caution to be careful how you reach your choice.......
OBTW....those turn or burn preachers or the ones who insist if you send them big bucks you will have your miricle in 72 hours...well I truly am leary of them....... cant buy a miricle

My husband likes her too. I don't have anything against her. She made some mistakes in a couple of teachings she got from others but as far as I know she has publicly admitted her errors. I respect her for that.
