Popular teachers you are wary of

Creflo Dollar could be an awesome teacher if not for the over-emphasis on his namesake. I also avoid Benny Hinn, and Joel Olsteen.

I happen to like TD Jakes and Joyce Myers. I haven't heard anything yet that sat wrong with me, but I'm no authority and barely off the similac of the scriptures myself.

The problem with making choices on who is a good pastor or teacher or evangelist and who is not is Judgement.
Ummm this might be me you understand but are we told to not judge others lest we be judged ?

Yea I know this thread is just brothers and sisters shooting the breeze sharing chit chat on who is better and those to be leary of or that you are leary of any way....I get it, but still and this might just be me but I thought we were to build up the body of christ and edify the body of christ. Again my personal thoughts.....

Many types of people working for God to reach many types of people in need of God.
Now the one thing I learned is most of what you find out about God's workers are from the media... The media? Come on now that is thier job to discredit christian preachers etc...

One example.....A pastor was under fire for a time and the big thing the media pushed was the ministry is only taking your money..........Ok thier reason for this...........They found the letters and envelopes of thousands and thousands of members in the dumpster and the ministry head quarters.......Ok so I ask this, what are you to do with all of them? Build ware houses to store them and be called on wasting money?
They prayed over them and placed the names on list according to needs and prayer team members were to pray over them.......They got all sorts of crap dealt to them and for what? Just becareful what you judge your choices on.

Now please understand this is simply my intake and not written in stone and I am not pushing this belief or saying any one is wrong....Just sharing something that was shared with me at one time....
Jim

Divisions in the Church

10 I appeal to you, dear brothers and sisters,[c] by the authority of our Lord Jesus Christ, to live in harmony with each other. Let there be no divisions in the church. Rather, be of one mind, united in thought and purpose. 11 For some members of Chloe’s household have told me about your quarrels, my dear brothers and sisters. 12 Some of you are saying, “I am a follower of Paul.” Others are saying, “I follow Apollos,” or “I follow Peter,[d]” or “I follow only Christ.”

13 Has Christ been divided into factions? Was I, Paul, crucified for you? Were any of you baptized in the name of Paul? Of course not! 14 I thank God that I did not baptize any of you except Crispus and Gaius, 15 for now no one can say they were baptized in my name. 16 (Oh yes, I also baptized the household of Stephanas, but I don’t remember baptizing anyone else.) 17 For Christ didn’t send me to baptize, but to preach the Good News—and not with clever speech, for fear that the cross of Christ would lose its power. 1 Corinthians 1:10-17 NLT

Your response's on this form is the same thing Paul talks about. Wow!

Def Joel Osteen you want too avoid I believe. I use to listen to Perry Stone weekly on youtube but he never finishes what he's teaching about, he wants to sell you the rest and cuts it off. I grew up with Jack Van Impe but it just seems he repeats himself every week. I listened to John Hagee this morning, he has some interesting things to say but i avoid taking him to seriously. Honestly the guy I like because he speaks the truth regardless of what you And I think of him is Steven Anderson. His 22 hour Revelation video on youtube was very interesting. Hes hardcore but he strictly lives by the Bible so I have to respect that.

not everyone likes another style of teaching, I know some that if I were to teach, they wouldn't come to me because of my methods of teaching it. that's ok. I have the same issue with some here. not my style. doesn't mean they aren't saved or don't know the word.

That's a good point, maybe some people need to hear more of the fire and brimstone, while others need a more balanced approach.

We all didn't get saved the same way, God used many different methods to draw us to Himself and it's the same with Pastors. I would personally NOT listen to anyone who preached the prosperity gospel, not all believers will be rich with money.

duly noted. still I don't like any on that list.
Jason, if someone said that you had broken the law and I knew you hadn't, I'd be the first one to stand up and give them the facts whether I liked you or not. :hugThere's one on the list of six ministries that I cannot tolerate at all.

I have listen to most of them on that list. been a while but I have.

Spiritual Gifts

12 My friends, you asked me about spiritual gifts. 2 I want you to remember that before you became followers of the Lord, you were led in all the wrong ways by idols that cannot even talk. 3 Now I want you to know that if you are led by God’s Spirit, you will say that Jesus is Lord, and you will never curse Jesus.

4 There are different kinds of spiritual gifts, but they all come from the same Spirit. 5 There are different ways to serve the same Lord, 6 and we can each do different things. Yet the same God works in all of us and helps us in everything we do.

7 The Spirit has given each of us a special way of serving others. 8 Some of us can speak with wisdom, while others can speak with knowledge, but these gifts come from the same Spirit. 9 To others the Spirit has given great faith or the power to heal the sick 10 or the power to work mighty miracles. Some of us are prophets, and some of us recognize when God’s Spirit is present.[a] Others can speak different kinds of languages, and still others can tell what these languages mean. 11 But it is the Spirit who does all this and decides which gifts to give to each of us.

One Body with Many Parts

12 The body of Christ has many different parts, just as any other body does. 13 Some of us are Jews, and others are Gentiles. Some of us are slaves, and others are free. But God’s Spirit baptized each of us and made us part of the body of Christ. Now we each drink from that same Spirit.[b]

14 Our bodies don’t have just one part. They have many parts. 15 Suppose a foot says, “I’m not a hand, and so I’m not part of the body.” Wouldn’t the foot still belong to the body? 16 Or suppose an ear says, “I’m not an eye, and so I’m not part of the body.” Wouldn’t the ear still belong to the body? 17 If our bodies were only an eye, we couldn’t hear a thing. And if they were only an ear, we couldn’t smell a thing. 18 But God has put all parts of our body together in the way that he decided is best.

19 A body isn’t really a body, unless there is more than one part. 20 It takes many parts to make a single body. 21 That’s why the eyes cannot say they don’t need the hands. That’s also why the head cannot say it doesn’t need the feet. 22 In fact, we cannot get along without the parts of the body that seem to be the weakest. 23 We take special care to dress up some parts of our bodies. We are modest about our personal parts, 24 but we don’t have to be modest about other parts.

God put our bodies together in such a way that even the parts that seem the least important are valuable. 25 He did this to make all parts of the body work together smoothly, with each part caring about the others. 26 If one part of our body hurts, we hurt all over. If one part of our body is honored, the whole body will be happy.

27 Together you are the body of Christ. Each one of you is part of his body. 28 First, God chose some people to be apostles and prophets and teachers for the church. But he also chose some to work miracles or heal the sick or help others or be leaders or speak different kinds of languages. 29 Not everyone is an apostle. Not everyone is a prophet. Not everyone is a teacher. Not everyone can work miracles. 30 Not everyone can heal the sick. Not everyone can speak different kinds of languages. Not everyone can tell what these languages mean. 31 I want you to desire the best gifts.[c] So I will show you a much better way.1 Corinthians 12 Contemporary English Version (CEV)

Ummm this might be me you understand but are we told to not judge others lest we be judged ?
Mat 7:1 "Judge not, that you be not judged." (ESV)

That is one of the most misused verses in the Bible. Looking at the context:

Mat 7:2 For with the judgment you pronounce you will be judged, and with the measure you use it will be measured to you.
Mat 7:3 Why do you see the speck that is in your brother's eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye?
Mat 7:4 Or how can you say to your brother, 'Let me take the speck out of your eye,' when there is the log in your own eye?
Mat 7:5 You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother's eye. (ESV)

Jesus is speaking of making hypocritical judgments, not judgments in general. Indeed, Jesus also says:

Joh 7:24 Do not judge by appearances, but judge with right judgment." (ESV)

We do need to be very careful with our judgments and precisely what it is we are judging, but we definitely are not to never judge. We are to judge what pastors, evangelists, teachers, and prophets say, so we can know truth from falsehood.

Mat 7:15 "Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing but inwardly are ravenous wolves.
Mat 7:16 You will recognize them by their fruits. Are grapes gathered from thornbushes, or figs from thistles?
Mat 7:17 So, every healthy tree bears good fruit, but the diseased tree bears bad fruit.
Mat 7:18 A healthy tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a diseased tree bear good fruit.
Mat 7:19 Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.
Mat 7:20 Thus you will recognize them by their fruits. (ESV)

1Co 1:10 I appeal to you, brothers, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree, and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be united in the same mind and the same judgment. (ESV)

1Jn 4:1 Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world.
1Jn 4:2 By this you know the Spirit of God: every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God,
1Jn 4:3 and every spirit that does not confess Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you heard was coming and now is in the world already.
1Jn 4:4 Little children, you are from God and have overcome them, for he who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.
1Jn 4:5 They are from the world; therefore they speak from the world, and the world listens to them.
1Jn 4:6 We are from God. Whoever knows God listens to us; whoever is not from God does not listen to us. By this we know the Spirit of truth and the spirit of error.
1Jn 4:7 Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God.
1Jn 4:8 Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love.
...
1Jn 4:20 If anyone says, "I love God," and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen cannot love God whom he has not seen. (ESV)

Etc. There are numerous passages which imply judging. It is necessary for the survival and life of the Church.

no body is damning another for listening to these people. though I don't think I would ever bother with Hinn. but I want to recheck some things about him and why im saying that. some don't care for that style they use. I don't. my pastor teaches most of what they teach. so why I would watch them?

did I gossip? I said I have heard, I said I wasn't sure, I know she was investigated. I said its possible. I never in a statement said she was guilty. then I was corrected and acknowledged that.

pastors do fall. the latest one that I listened to from time to time is bob coy. he public admitted his sin and stepped down. he was a great teacher and his sermons cant be found. he commited adultery. the web site of his church stated this to be the truth and did so in a manner that wasn't damning to him or harmful. is that gossip? NO.

I understand that they are in the spot light. but I live in a city I could call leerjetville as we have at least a dozen land and fly out daily. those aren't cheap. to own one it costs 3 million and to keep it air worthy, its almost the same a year. so that does sometimes project a bad message.

Dear Jasonc,

I am not judging what's in your heart. Christian should talk differently from the world. We should only consider what the word of God says. And if there is any gray areas, Jesus will fill them in.

What do you mean by "We should only consider what the word of God says" and why? In what way are to we to consider it? The whole word of God or just portions of it?

while im aware of the slandering of them, but however. being poor and also blessed not to be as poor as I was. and I use poor loosely for me. its not a good thing to have a pastor in a poor community of workers relativately to drive a rolls and have a leerjet, Canadian air c300 or what not. it can be just as bad in the sinners eyes.

I don't care for teachers with a huge focus on end times, like Jack Van Impe or John Hagee. My family likes those preachers, but it seems to me like they label every natural disaster as a sign of the end and that just comes across as rather exaggerative or manipulative to me. Otherwise, I do kinda like John Hagee, though he seems to get pretty close to preaching prosperity gospel sometimes.
