Route pics

The clarity and contrast in the water tower photo was excellent. Details showed up quite nicely. You did a great job on taking that photo!
lol. I thought that one or all of them were all great for a cell phone camera. I have to adjust the image for the web site. I took that from the inside of my truck. the phone did all the adjusting for me

one more to add. the oldest thing in my town that well made it vero.

once it had three tracks instead of two here. where the stop was for Gifford is possible in this area. it wasn't listed as a flag stop either.

note the original "fence" everywhere there is need for a sign they use old concrete ties to make the barriers.

You must have a great camera on your phone to have the pictures turn out the way these have! Excellent!

I wonder if your historical society has photos of what the 3-rail lines looked like?

I have posted some of those. I know I have. I need to visit the railroad museum. the fec is redoing several rails. one nearby was finished they used at the intersection of aviation blvd(once a spur for the old navy base) and us1. they used wooden ties instead of concrete. which is unusual.

this area about a decade and half ago would have been busy with citrus trucks loading and unloading and also loading at the nearest railhead. there is a citrus packing house to the east of the tower that has been there for some time. sadly one of the older ones has closed.

Was the older packing house in bad shape....or was it just not needed any longer?
no, it was used recently. its been maintained. citrus has been hit hard in the last few years. sad that we have lost so many of them throught the years. its used to be when I went to the store and bought orange juice, chances are it was produced in my county. the price is right used to give away citrus from my county.

Understandable for the closure then, considering the way the citrus crops have struggled over the past few years.

I think I've seen The Price Is Right only a handful of times, so I can't say as though I recall citrus being given away as prizes. But truly, how cool was that to have crop from your county on national tv !

hale groves, kinda well known here. I used to get free samples for my dad and had to walk half a mile to do so.

What a fun memory from your childhood!

Probably at the time, it wasn't particularly "fun" .... but still !
I was at that location a few days ago. its now a dunkin doughuts. when hale groves had their stand there it was inside a shell gas station.

That is so sad.
hale groves is still around. they had three locations, now its only this one. they still even have a grove. when you traveled near the turnpike, the interstate you found these stands. a few still exist. i remember orange avenue having a few there. turnpike feeder road had a ton of that and signage. a few packing houses remnants still can be found. most of the groves on that road are now cattle farms.

Oh... I guess I thought what was meant was that Hale Groves no longer existed. That's quite a selection of items they offer on their web site .... I've bookmarked it ....... for later shopping :sohappy

Easy! I'll tell them you generously provided the link after sharing a particular memory about them when you were young!

Who knows? Perhaps they'll send you a 'thank you for the referral' gift card!

Lol.ah country side citrus with the corn maze.they are new.

Every autumn, there are any number of corn mazes in the Midwest.

One year, friends of mine tried to go through one .... it was well after dark before they were 'rescued' ! (When it started going dark, he could no longer find the little 'markers' he'd made along the route. Their kids had a marvelous time, and that's what it was all about!)
