but according to the Ephesians 2, Satan still rules this corrupt world and Christ is the head of his true church.
Firstly, I did not call you Pauline. I clarified my own identity.
Secondly, Ephesians 2 as I read it speaks of the sons of disobedience, meaning those who are unbelievers in God, who go against God's will and word, who are rebellious to the offering of the plan of redemption. Whereas in that passage Paul is speaking of God's mercy and grace having saved the believers from the prince of the power of the air.
So yes, the enemy still walks the earth seeking souls to devour. As we're told in Peter. But those souls would belong to those sons of disobedience.
While back in John 12:31, we read that the prince of this world will be driven out. And further in John 12 we are told that no matter, the lost sheep of that house of Israel would still not believe in the Messiah. Even as Isaiah prophesied.
John 12: 47 "As for the person who hears my words but does not keep them, I do not judge him. For I did not come to judge the world, but to save it."
While the confusion continues, when we read just two chapters over in John 14,
John 14:28-31New International Version (NIV)
28 “You heard me say, ‘I am going away and I am coming back to you.’ If you loved me, you would be glad that I am going to the Father, for the Father is greater than I. 29 I have told you now before it happens, so that when it does happen you will believe. 30 I will not say much more to you,
for the prince of this world is coming. He has no hold over me, 31 but he comes so that the world may learn that I love the Father and do exactly what my Father has commanded me.
It then appears to afford a contention between the faithful in Christ who , in one camp believe Satan was cast out of this world at the cross. And those who read that Satan is still a factor in the world as prince of this world.
But, as friends have mentioned when we discuss along these lines, what really makes things curious is 1 Timothy 4:10.
That is why we labor and strive, because we have put our hope in the living God, who is the Savior of all people, and especially of those who believe.
When that scripture tells us that Jesus is savior of all men, meaning at the cross, and especially those that believe, the domain of the prince of this world should be at an end. Because Jesus saved all people from him at the cross.
