[quote:3fvzh2jm] If you decided to study this issue you'd be happy that you were convinced to read the KJ Bible and not some esoteric knock off put together in darkness by men of the occult.
What a hoot.
Contrary to your lack of knowledge here, there WERE english bibles prior to the KJV..and your precious translators used some of those bibles for their own translation work.[/quote:3fvzh2jm]
FOC, I believe he is talking post/kjv here. I won't resort to all the name calling and I ask you all refrain from it too, but I also believe the validity of Westcott and Hort to be questionable; not to mention how acceptable some of the watered down versions of the Bible have become today.

:mouthdrop

Which Bible to use was a concern for me me I was first saved and I prayed for God to lead me in choosing one I would use. !0 years later and I'm still studying and researching Bible text history and here I am, still primarily using the JKV. I'm fully aware of all the tactics used on both sides of the argument. I know some of the info is misleading (including some of what you quoted) and confusing to one who may be looking for good info.

People, pray and go with your heart and let not pride be a motivating factor. :yes

P.S. thanks for the reply FOC. :)

The Just Kidding Version? :D

follower of Christ said:
Yeah....I went thru this confused phase myself for a month or so. Then I decided to learn some facts :yes
Pretty much every bible version out there is just as condemning as the KJV, poster....I mean, since thats what you seem to be basing your discernment on.

.

That's not what this is about. Even Islam is condemning. Satan himself is condemning.

follower of Christ said:
Theres also a lot of KJVonly propaganda.
God doesnt speak Ye Kings Olde Englishe, Im afraid.

What are you afraid of? Is it the truth? Are you afraid of the truth that satan has craftily replaced the true Word of God with his perversion of it? Are you afraid that if you found that to be true that you might have to actually make a move instead of relying on your apathy to guide you?

follower of Christ said:

Contrary to your lack of knowledge, I knew that already.

follower of Christ said:
.and your precious translators used some of those bibles for their own translation work.

What do you know? I knew that too.

follower of Christ said:
I agree that folks here should learn the truth...and when they learn it they'll find out that a group of UNINSPIRED, godly men used resources to translate yet one more english bible that has its own problems just like they all do.

That's not the truth at all. Keep trying though and you'll get it.

follower of Christ said:
Some simply prefer to idolize a translation.

There it is. It's that tired old idiotic argument that you all use. Of course by you all I mean all of you Westcott and Hort only people. Not one of you has any originality.

follower of Christ said:
No, you were duped just as I was by some preacher who convinced you that the KJV is more than it is.
No offense intended.

Actually there wasn't a preacher in sight. What do you know?

follower of Christ said:
Of course you were.
And my guess is that youve studied just what you wanted to hear after the fact instead of actually trying to understand the facts from both sides.

And your guess would be incorrect.

follower of Christ said:
They got me to for a spell. I even went out and spent a decent amount of money buying that ridiculous 1611 version....the real one that is completely unreadable.

I'm sorry but those are words that can be read at a low grade level. You with the simplicity of the phonics and all. Of course some words are hard and you will need a dictionary but that's the case with all so called bibles.

follower of Christ said:
What a joke that I fell for thinking that Gods word is trapped in such a horrid bunch of words.

Yeah if you say so. But it isn't a joke. Maybe you just don't have any endurance in you.

follower of Christ said:
That all said, you DO realize that you DONT use the actual version you claim, right ?
Just like the NEWKJV is updated, your precious KJV has been updated a few times from the original until the mid 1700's. ;)

Do you know the difference between a revision and an edition? I doubt if you do. And the Apocrypha was only included for historical reference in the 1611. No one ever claimed it to be actual scripture worthy of instruction.

follower of Christ said:
NO one ever mentioned a single word and you never read anything about the KJV or the TR, huh ?

Yup. Not until as recent as the past few years. I didn't even know a revision existed until I was in my late twenties, but when I found out about it I knew it was counterfiet. I am thirty nine now and only looked into this a few years ago.

follower of Christ said:
You just one day came up with the idea that the KJV was 'Gods word' all by yourself and that all over versions with the devils work, right ....

No that's not right. One of the very first things I read from the Bible was in Revelations. I was only like 10 yrs old or maybe a bit younger. I didn't walk away with much wisdom that day but I had garnred something that would shape my faith tremendously. I understood these Words to be truth and they did impact me even then.

Re:22:17: And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely.
Re:22:18: For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book:
Re:22:19: And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.
Re:22:20: He which testifieth these things saith, Surely I come quickly. Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus.

A huge impact was made on my little mind. The Holy Ghost? Of course it was. He wouldn't have left me alone in my struggle to understand. How else would I have known that these other bibles are lies?

follower of Christ said:
not one single thing said a word to influence you....is that what Im supposed to believe?

Nope. The Holy Ghost filled me with Words. No man taught me until I sought after the knowledge of others. But I have checked the scriptures to be sure I am getting the truth.

follower of Christ said:
Are you sticking to that story ?

Yup.

The argument that all versions other than the KJV are perversions is incredibly fallacious.

Not a thing to do with pride, vic...lets not go there. :)
Simple facts are all that are relevant.
The KJV is a fantastic translation...but that is ALL that it is... :)
It isnt inspired or it wouldnt have had to have been updated and corrected at all.

What part "IVE BEEN THRU THE KJVONLYISM NONSENSE" myself are you missing, poster? :)
I WAS KJVonly for a short time. So I already know your version of 'truth' in the matter.

Is this clear enough now ?

Yes the devil would like for us to believe that. Just like he would like for us to believe that we can get the pure Word of God from a pornographer who has been called the Prince of Darkness. Well I ain't falling for it. Al ot of people are but not me.

Sorry to break your heart, but it IS.
*IF* the translators WERE inspired then the FIRST KJV would have been PERFECT and NOT needed correction or updating.
Or do you believe God makes mistakes....
;)

That pretty much settles that part of the debate, Id say...even if some reject the facts :)

You don't know any more truth than satan is allowing you to know.

How about you stop speaking for the Devil and just stick to the facts ?

I guess you are poorly informed about book editions and how they are updated. There isn't any noticeable or major changes that you can point out except for the exclusion of the apocrypha.

You don't know any more truth than satan is allowing you to know.
What Ive noticed is that youre ENTIRE stance is based on what you THINK about Satan rather than what you can show with fact.
Thats typical for the KJVonlyer, from my experience and one reason why I started doubting the position from the start.

As I said, *IF* the KJV translators WERE actually inspired by God then NO updating or correction would have been necessary. ;)
Or are we assuming that God makes mistakes when He inspires men to write ? ;)

Sounds like someone who DOESNT actually own the real 1611 version but an updated one instead ;)
Ive owned a copy of the ACTUAL 1611 language, poster, and I assure you that even a college grad is going to have a hard time with it unless theyve studied it for quite some time.

How else are you gonna warn anyone. How can you confront someone with this ugliness and never mention satan. I guess you can't. At least I can't think of any way out of it.

Do you plan on making this personal ? :)

Again, as I said...*IF* the KJV bible WERE inspired there would have been NO need to update or CORRECT anything...unless youre accusing God of not getting it right the first time...are you ?

And the Apocrypha was only included for historical reference in the 1611. No one ever claimed it to be actual scripture worthy of instruction.

You can claim whatever you wish, poster, but the FACT IS that the ORIGINAL contained the Apocrypha...*IF* the translators WERE inspired at THAT time then they were INSPIRED to keep it in there, in which case the catholics are right...it belongs in the texts.

No, its you dodging the fact that you have yet to actually present any VALID case for your arguments here.
Maybe we should all just ignore you until you can show evidence that the KJV IS the only word of God in english ?
:)

Quote John 3-16 word for word from your KJV bible that you use.
I had to look pretty hard for the ACTUAL 1611 language and when I found it it was nearly $100 for that bible.
Im VERY seriously doubting that you have used the ACTUAL 1611 language itself.
NOt that its even remotely relevant to the point that the KJV is NOT inspired.

Thats really nice.
Dont see where this shows that the KJV is the only word of God, however.

A huge impact was made on my little mind. The Holy Ghost? Of course it was. He wouldn't have left me alone in my struggle to understand. How else would I have known that these other bibles are lies?
He could have done it with ANY version on the market.

Nope. The Holy Ghost filled me with Words. No man taught me until I sought after the knowledge of others. But I have checked the scriptures to be sure I am getting the truth.
Im thinking TD Jakes....the name sound familiar ?
I cant go any further than that with my comments lest Vic, Rick or someone else smack my hands for breaking the rules.

Thats really nice except that your satan argument is pretty much ALL you have used.
Satans work always affects the physical world...thru sin and corruption....so you certainly can SHOW us some physical manifestation of Satans work....such as 6 million Jews being killed in WWII, for example, or crime, violence, political corruption..something to show EVIDENCE that Satan has actually wrote all of these other versions to destroy the church.
Anything other than this 'satan did it' line ?
:)

here is John 3:16 from the ACTUAL 1611 text...
3:16 ¶ For God so loued ye world, that he gaue his only begotten Sonne: that whosoeuer beleeueth in him, should not perish, but haue euerlasting life.
There is NO reason for us to have to try to decipher something like this.
Given the fact that Paul used the COMMON tongue there is NO reason to believe that God would want or expect us to NOT have a bible in OUR common tongue....modern day english.
:)
