Try the Holy Ghost and see if that doesn't settle your mind. Try some of those psychotropic drugs and see how your thought patterns change. Will the change be wholly for the better? I doubt it. While these drugs do solve some issues they also create others. I realize that everyone who takes them doesn't contemplate murder and or suicide after using psychotropics, but their is a definite alteration of the mind. These things are best solved by rooting out the underlying spiritual condition that causes us the anxieties in the first place. It's called sin, and as long as we live in it we are gonna have emotional problems. I was called bi polar and given medicines. I don't take them anymore.

I don't know your wife. If these medicines are helping her in some areas of her life then maybe you should do a study on the medicines that she is taking to see if the benefits are worth it. Those side effects can be a killer. Some of them are suppressed such as the heart attacks that vioxx caused.

bi polar like she is curable yes, but she has to want the treatment and there is a factor of the genes for it, ie parent that is an alcoholic parent. i have seen my wife make foolish decision without the meds and some with,as she must have them adjusted, is the lord able to heal, yes. but when you are able to work when bi-polar? my wife no, i know that for a fact as part of the bi-polar has caused the short term memory issues.

i hate the meds, but unless the lord miracoulsy heals, and she has to want to change , she is unsaved, one must you use Wisdom, as the person, my wife, can die from panic attacks without the meds to stop those.

bi-polar runs in familes, do i lack faith no, my brother was paranoid schixophrenic and was delivered by the lord and only he can explain it.

is medicine evil to you, sure it not perfect, wont lie about that either. but what on this earth his save the christ.

Thats a real nice attempt to mislead there friend but the texts doesnt say Luke gave up his career as a physician.

Oh good grief. :nono
Lets all just forget how many lives modern medicine has SAVED and how many people can actually LIVE life better because of it.

I loathe conspiracy theories.

And if the Spirit of God was the one who showed man how to make the medication to begin with ?

One thing moderation needs to take into consideration here is that youre basically giving the impression that if we 'trust God' then we'll lay our Rx's aside and 'have faith'.

If ONE person on this forum who doesnt know better ends up harmed or dead because of this you ought to be held responsible for giving what amounts to medical advice.

I dont permit this stuff on any of my forums or websites for a reason.
I wish very seriously that I had thought about this before I hastily created this thread.
I had no idea that it would end up with this type of nonsense being presented or Id never have asked the question.

.

I want no further part of this thread or this topic.
Its simply too dangerous for some here to be making people thing of they 'trust God' then they'll lay their prescriptions down and 'have faith' instead.

I apologize entirely for even making this thread and bringing this topic up. It was just something I did in response to so many other spam type threads that were going on at the time.
I really wish Id thought about the possible responses before I posted it.

follower of Christ,

I don't understand why you can't seem to find the middle ground. From what I've read of your opinion in this thread, you prefer medicine over faith which for you, may be the best route.

Medicine has saved, and continues to help millions of people on a daily basis, but medicine also harms millions of people on a daily basis too. Likewise, God continues to heal people of disease while others refuse to partake of any medical recommendation and as a result die.

For me, it's not a cut and dry answer. I myself am being healed by God. Less than a year ago I had a CT scan and it showed I had heart disease with symptoms of stenosis and an aneurysm that measured 4.1 cm. According to the Clevland Clinic, at 4.5 - 4.7 I was candidate for open heart surgery. Now then, I took up running and my cardiologist told me not to get my heart rate above 160 and she preferred it under 150 as the increase in my heart rate would raise my blood pressure causing the aneurysm to grow. I honored her request for several months but then, and I won't go into detail, I started running "normal" runs again where I was at 165 + and I ran with faith that God would watch over me. I ran the Detroit half marathon and my average heart rate was 174. If a doctor is reading this, then you know I was flirting with death as the aneurysm could have burst at any time and at the least, this sustained heart rate by all medical knowledge should have caused the aneurysm to grow.

I recently had an MRI and the results came back showing that the stenosis was completely gone. Not only that, but the aneurysm had shrunk to 3.7 cm. That's almost a half cm. Now then, stenosis is part of the tissue disorder in my aortic valve and diet or exercise has no impact on the disease according to the doctors. My conclusion? God has answered the prayers of those who have been praying for me and my faith has increased as the MRI flies in the face of medicine.

I could tell you another story of my mother who had a major stroke around 10 years ago and she was told that without open heart, she had less than a year to live. She denied the surgery and my brother who was caring for her took her off the perscription drugs (they were killing her) and he used other methods and natural remedies, such as peroxide baths three times a day, L-Lysing w/ Vitamin C and Niacin which replaced the nitro pills among a few other alternatives. To date, my mother has not had surgery, including any artery surgeries...

So you see, I don't think that the topic, "Should Christians take medicine" is as cut and dry as you might think. For some, without medicine would cause death while others, they are just fine. For me, it's a tough question at times.

Grace and peace,
Jeff

it is safe to say that the lord uses both. we must use wisdom when doing the no medicince thing as hompathy has killed as well. remember must drugs are found in nature

short list
aspirin'
phenylbarbitol(for siezures and bi-polar)
lipitor(fish oil,omaga3 fatty acids)
marijuana, yes i went there
lithium and its cousins
potassium
penicillin

some of those in pure forms would kill , the lithium and potassium are explosives if mixed with water!

Agreed. Nobody must condemn others for taking medicine. But nobody must condemn those who in faith want the Lord's healing instead of medicine. If a person has faith, then its obviously not dangerous, because faith will work. Leaving meds because of pressure for any reason, is just stupid and dangerous .

We must learn the difference between faith in God and faith in the promises. Christians believe in God (have faith in Him) but not all Christians have faith in the promises.

Make sure that when we say we are going to believe God for something, we can also present a promise that is in regard to the situation. In that way we can stand on the Word and not be presumptuous

The main observation I can make in this thread is how little you've got.

You've made your assertion and backed it up with nothing but anecdotes, innuendo, and a few scandals that have affected big pharma. Maybe we should compare the former with how many scandals have plagued various Christian organizations to be fair in our assessment of corruption, since you're only throwing one of those babies out with the bathwater aren't you?

Intelligent and reasonable people will recognize that there are at least 2 sides to stories, and that you and Tom Cruise are only focused on one.

False distinction, as has been repeatedly pointed out to you and supported with Biblical arguments.

It is a demonstrably Biblical fact that God works through His creation. And one of the ways He does is is through medical technology. Lest I be misrepresented, I am not diminishing the reality of miracles. And sometimes God does "work outside" the natural order and does miraculously heal.

But it is a deep error to think in terms of a choice between medecine on the one hand and faith on the other. To do so shows that one has missed one of the deepest themes in the scripture - In Christ, God is redeeming all things unto Himself. And that includes the institutions of medecine.

Thats pretty funny Steve. I try to bail and then you provoke me with this sort of personal attack...and you wonder why people might react negatively in here sometimes with this sort of belligerent remark ?

I dont 'prefer' anything over anything, gent.
I want what GOD has given and allowed and if some here cant grasp the fact that God DOESNT always heal and that God DOES use physicians (as Luke was) to 'treat' or heal then that is what God is going to do.
I accept and acknowledge BOTH.
I simply do not buy into this line that God WILL heal someone with enough faith and those who arent healed dont have faith.

I KNOW what faith is, friend....I have been forced into being entirely dependent on God and my faith in Him is absolute.
And I KNOW that He DOES NOT HEAL everyone simply based on their faith in Him.

There is no 'middle ground' here. There is simply fact.
And that fact is that NOT ALL will be healed even if they had perfect faith.
:)

Good point Jeff,

I have heard episode that some Christian lady refused to see a doctor for her illness and died eventually. But on the other hand, if one believes not to take any medication proves their faith in God, more power to them. They should not be condemned.

I dont condemn you for not taking meds, friend, I condemn your comments that make anyone who DOES take meds as not having faith....such as this one;

If a person has faith, then its obviously not dangerous, because faith will work.
ie, if I HAD faith then I wouldnt need to take my insulin (if I were diabetic)...and thus you are actively instructing the reader here to 'have faith and stop taking your meds' and thus creating a VERY dangerous environment here.

Sorry friend, but even with faith NOT ALL will be healed.
I'll ask you again about those who have lost arms and legs...are you telling us that NOT ONE of them has faith ?

Leaving meds because of pressure for any reason, is just stupid and dangerous .
But....but.....but....you JUST said if we have faith then we'll be ok.

We must learn the difference between faith in God and faith in the promises.
No, YOU must learn them.
God NEVER promised to heal EVERY Single individual physically who ever existed.
That is your twists, and a very dangerous one, on the texts.
Christians believe in God (have faith in Him) but not all Christians have faith in the promises.
No friend. God simply has NOT promised what YOU claim that He has.

Make sure that when we say we are going to believe God for something, we can also present a promise that is in regard to the situation. In that way we can stand on the Word and not be presumptuous
No, all you are standing on is YOUR distortions of the texts. They do not promise that God WILL physically heal EVERY person who has ever lived....

This either/or nonsense is going to end up costing someone their life.

As I have repeatedly stated. Please do not leave your meds until you are sure about the fact that God has indeed healed you at the cross. If you do not believe that you were indeed healed by His stripes, then take your meds. Also take them if you are not SURE you have been healed.

But if God shows you that you have indeed been healed at the cross. Why then, if you are healed, do you take medicine ? Make no decision because of what man says. Make your decision based on what God says to you. Do not listen to those motivated by fear, because God is sovereign. Our days are numbered by the Lord Himself and if you are following Him with all your heart, He will guide you in His love and wisdom. Lacking wisdom ? ASK. Ask and you will receive , but ask without doubting.

blessings
C
