Should I publicly correct my teacher?

T. E. Smith and Edward

The two of you need to find neutral grounds with each other as both of you are in violation of the Terms of Service 1.1, 1.3 and 1.5. if this continues you will be both banned from this thread. Please stick to the question of the OP without attacking each other.

No, they’re valid and the Bible agrees. Taking verses out of context doesn’t support your position.
Well I associated with the theology crowd at university and know what they were taught and studying theology there did not enable them to understand God. It’s a bit like studying anatomy and physiology and saying that those who do understand how humans think and behave.

The verse I used is not out of context and you have not and cannot prove that it was. It’s easy to lob a “out of context” rebuttal but hard to show that your response is not simply chaff. So show me what you think that verse means in context that is different. Step up to the plate and back up your remark.

T. E. Smith, if you want to ask a question that challenges Calvinism at its most important tenant, permanent fire insurance, use a Bible verse and ask them to explain it. There are lots. This will show the kids you care about
1) there are other positions in christian thought
2) our faith stands on the Bible and it’s authority is recognized
3) one can read verse and have other thoughts than the group position
4) all such challenges should be answered by examining scripture

While I wish I could say it has been entertaining to watch certain voices scramble to protect the projection of authority via private conversation, scripture is clear. 1 Timothy 5:20.

Thank you for pointing that out, I'd forgotten about that verse.

"Those who are sinning rebuke in the presence of all, that the rest also may fear."

My three Sunday school teachers all subscribe to the doctrine of eternal security and thus argue that if someone falls away, they were never saved. They often speak of this to my classmates, some of whom as young as 10. I consider the idea very wrong, and I don't want the kids to be indoctrinated into it. Should I speak up publicly and correct the teachers? I could speak to them in private, but I'm certain that their views would not change at all, and it would still leave the children believing this false doctrine.

That is just begging the question though. It is presumptuous to believe that just because someone is teaching something you disagree with, that they are even wrong, never mind that they are sinning.
