Come in and share your thoughts and poll if you will allow your children to shower with transgenders.

We have a transgender at our school. He's 4th grade but identifies as a she. Most of (her) friends know her only as a female. When in 5th grade, the kids spend a week at an outdoor camp to learn about the environment and as sort of a right of passage to the JR High school. During the week, they have "cabin showers" where the kids are supposed to use the shower that evening before bed. They shower together in a community shower like in the old days. It's one circular shower head and an open shower (also circular). The boys shower is the same. So when this transgender student's cabin has it turn, and they all go into the shower together, the girls will discover that their female friend has two dingle berries and a pea pod. Not your typical female equipment. I will no longer be working for the school at this time but will be interested to find out how they handle it. There's no way they can't make special accommodations. Imagine the surprise and the revulsion of some for the deception over the years. "You're not a girl!" Then the parents hear of it and the school has to deal with angry parents becasue the school allowed a boy in the shower with their daughter!

Here's how I roll with it. "So you're identifying as a girl? Fine. Here's your shower accommodation. It's private. If that's not good enough for you, stink." (BTW, I don't care about the bathroom, they have stalls).

There is only one problem with the bathroom situation at this camp. The showers are clearly seen from the bathroom area. So if you walk into the bathroom, shower is on the right, open for all to see, and stalls on the left. So there is no privacy for showers. It's an old facility.

I agree.
However, I don't think anyone should have to strip naked and shower with Anyone else.
What would they do at this cabin if a girl had her menses?

That I don't know. Like I said, old facilities. Communal showers like when I was growing up. I didn't really think about it.

I don't care what the SCOTUS says about this issue. If my kids are going to be taking a shower at a camp there better be individual stalls and if I catch wind, even remotely, that there will be a "transgender" kid amongst the campers they just wont be going, period.

Actually, isn't the Supreme Court down a Justice ... I think that means they aren't deciding anything at the moment.

Wouldn't that be interesting. Paying a bunch of people to sit on their hands until someone gets around to appointing a new Justice. Nah, like civilwarbuff said they are still reviewing cases. They have to be doing something besides taking up space, and marching inexorably to their graves.

Thank you all.
Since I have been corrected 3 times :wink ... I decided to look closer for myself.

Just for the record, Gloucester County School Board v. G.G. (Docket 16-273) is not currently on the schedule for arguments before the SCOTUS, so they are not about to decide anything. They have placed it on the list of cases to look at, but its date is 'TBD'. Technically, it is the School Board that is seeking to have the SCOTUS reverse a lower court ruling that requires transgenders to use their non-birth gender restroom and prohibits schools from making other arangements (or forfeit Federal funds).

The SCOTUS is not scheduled to hear any arguments from January 18, 2017 to February 21, 2017 ... so they are not deciding anything at THIS moment (although you were all correct that being down a justice has not slowed them down.)

:twocents

The SCOTUS decides which cases they will hear; not all cases appealed to them are accepted......generally there is a certain time of year where they announce what cases will be accepted for the new term.....not sure when they do that though.....

If someone told me 40 years ago when I was 10 that this would be a thing that needed to be discussed, I'd have laughed at them and then got right back into playing hacky sack. I'd never want to grow up in this world, and I hate it that may kids have to either! [/rant]

This world is not my home, this world is not my home, this world is not my home.... :shame

You can thank liberalism, which really gained traction in the 60's, for this.
