Tatoos

Or wear red, jewelry or heavy makeup.

Jeremiah 4:30 And when thou art spoiled, what wilt thou do? Though thou clothest thyself with crimson, though thou deckest thee with ornaments of gold, though thou rentest thy face with painting, in vain shalt thou make thyself fair;
Yep, as I said, scripture must be read in context. I should also add that it should be read with the goal of learning the principle of what is being said, not of looking for religious rules to apply to people.

I have tatoos but I would not get any more. I dont see the point in drawing on skin when you can draw on paper. Its like, having a tattoo on your back you cannot see, its stupid, obviously there is no other reason but to try look good and impress people with it.
I suppose I should add that I personally don't have tattoos, for some of the same reasons you mention here. I just don't find them attractive. Although I do realize that beyond just trying to "look good and impress people" many do get them for deeply commemorative or other reasons as well. I just don't find them to be something I want to have personally. But that's just my personal preference and I don't push that preference on others or try to claim my preference is equal to God's instructions to us!

Some of the most GODLY people I have met are not what I might consider to be "normal" suit and tie people of the worldly sort.

Jesus did not judge by fleshly appearances.

Oh and tribal tattoos, I understand that is a cultural thing for some people who like to keep there family history alive.

I agree they are mostly for others to get an impression of some one before words are spoken between them. I too had some before I knew better.

Should Christians Have Tattoos?
What Does the Bible Say About Tattoos?

Of course. I reckon I could ask the destination of the thief on the cross (Luk 23:43), the man living with his father's wife (1 Co 5:1 & Cor 5:5), or even Peter denying our Lord three times (Mat 26:72 & Mat 26:75).

As to works of the flesh such as fornication, what are we told?
1 Th 4:3 For this is the will of God, even your sanctification, that ye should abstain from fornication . .
Is there consequence? I can near guarantee it, but here again forgiveness is available to regain our standing or place we will spend eternity. All these things are that part of judgment of Rev 2 & 3 that we're to repent of.

Brought back into the fold? The man having his father's wife is said to have had sufficient punishment, and brought back and comforted (2 Cor 2:6-7). What's this Lord? He didn't go to hell? :shrug
You mean tattoos are only a matter of whether one goes to hell or not?

So looking like the world, smelling like the world, projects what? What's next ? Christian tramp stamps, oh but it's a cross.
So often tattoos are worldly and put in places where one ,if female ,must nearly expose her self . To show them.one could argue that it's not always like that but most of the time it is.

Is getting a tatoo a sin against God?
What does the Bible say one way or the other?
Don't conform to this world?
Join in and get tatooed like everyone else?
Stand apart from the world?
Don't mark up your body?
Be free to do as you like?

Where do you stand on this issue?
There is no doubt it is a sin against God.

Lev 19:28 Ye shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor print any marks upon you: I am the LORD (YHWH).

However, it is a forgivable offense. If one gets a tattoo after becoming a believer, it can be forgiven, but it will result in loss of rewards in the Kingdom as will any sin.

Getting a tattoo is also conforming to the world as Toby's testimony reveals.

There is no scripture, when considered within it's intended context, that tells us we can't have tattoos.

Where's Farouk? He used to be our resident expert on this subject. :yes :biggrin2

Tell us about these rewards in heaven.

Tell us about these rewards in heaven.
I didn't say "rewards in heaven", but "rewards in the Kingdom" meaning the Kingdom on Earth.

Mat 5:19 Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.
Tattoos would be among the least of the commandments. It will not go well for anyone who breaks even the least of the commandments after becoming a believer. They will not lose their salvation, but they will lose honor and rewards.

Mat 16:27 For the Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father with his angels; and then he shall reward every man according to his works.
Rev 22:12 And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be.

One example of such rewards is found in the Parable of Pounds (Luke 19:12-27). Another is that the disciples will receive a special reward as found in Mat 19:28. Mat 20:23 tells us that the reward of sitting on Yeshua's right and left hands will be granted to two individuals by the Father.

God's going to put a mark on our foreheads.
Isn't that like a tatoo?
