The Christian Woman & Her Wardrobe

I have another question, for some of you. Now what about Christian women wearing skirts or dresses that are not down to the ankles in church, or wearing pants that show their curves. And also Christian women wearing bathing suits on a beach. Or Christian women wearing blouses with the back out.
This is something that I know, when men can see much female skin or a womens curves even hi heels on a women in church, it can put sexual thoughts in their heads. One thing I can say about the Muslims, that I like, and this is the only thing. Keeping the woman covered takes a lot of attention off of the females. Now in Biblical times, Hebrew & Christian women, kept themselves covered. So you have the women in church, that cover their heads and then Monday morning go to work wearing tight jeans, that make men imagine lying down with you in bed, not hard to imagine. I am not getting on anybodies case, I just want to hear what some of the answers will be. I live in a big city, Philly so I see this stuff everyday, no matter where I go. So do you think that women should wear clothing down to the ankles in church, or better yet there are still churches, that won't even allow women to wear pants to church, so what do you all think about that. And should Christian women wear tight curve showing jeans, or spandex, clothing ?

CAPS TO DIFFERENTIATE, I GET TEMPTED TO LOOK , I AM DELIVERED FROM PORN BUT YOU DONT REALIZE HOW MUCH FLESH WOMEN SHOW THAT MAY CAUSE A MAN TO STUMBLE.

Jason, it is real hard out there, with women running around like that.
i know, i see them in church, we have some teens and adults that show too much cleavage imho.

.
Should women always be held accountable for man's weaknesses ?

The problem is with the men that lust. They are the ones that are unholy. Dressing up or down does not make women more or less holy.

But showing cleavage in church is out of line ! .. :nono .. :shame

Women should dress appropriately and decently in Church so as not to cause men to stumble.

when they wear jeans two sizes too small or very short skirts, that is what i mean and i think lewis is a well.

i do agree with that men do lust.

1Ti 2:9 In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array;
1Ti 2:10 But (which becometh women professing godliness) with good works.

I do not believe in putting laws on people as far as your sleeves to your wrists or skirts past ankels ( although thats not a bad idea). We should not bind people under laws that the word of God does not specifiy. As we grow in Christ we will be conformed to His image. If we truly love HIM and not our flesh then as we grow He will speak to us and say isnt that shirt short or what do you look like today ( not in those words but those meanings). As this happens and we become more conscience of others weaknesses, and our own desire to live godly and as we kill off any fleshly desire to want to be seen or looked at or longed after and we will conform to holiness.- Now if we are really out of control it is perfectly appropriate for brethern to call our attention to it. I have seen some people in church and i could not imagine what they were wearing and not new beleivers either but saints with money who should be more mindful. But saying something if someone is out of control like cleavage showing or real short skirts etc. is not the same as putting people under a law that you must have a certain dress code always as they determine. We should DESIRE and grow in DESIRE and love for God and the brethern that causes us to conform to the word of God in these ways in everyway that He leads us in the word and in the Spirit.

of course we should be held accountable for man's weakness.

Look if we are fully covered and not flirting or anything then their lust is on them totally and we can say honestly before God and man that we did nothing and went out of our way not to do that but if we just do what we want and say thats there problem then we are accountable for it.

Love lays down its life for the brethern. This is what paul taught us, are we not free to eat all things? but if Our liberty makes our brother to stumble when we should be more concerned with his weakness then our liberty. We should not destroy our brother over meats by emblazeing his conscious to do what for him is sin. This is not differnt, our brethern have weaknesses of many kinds and if we can help them and be weak to them instead of throwing liberty ( or selfishness) in their faces then we are loving them.

I agree cleavage in church is badddd... BUT WE ARE THE CHURCH so for us cleavage anywhere other than with our spouse in private is BADDDD. We shouldnt be showing it anywhere if we cant show it in church. What is worse then going to church to pretend holy, if we wont be holy outside of church too.

I am not saying tina that you were saying it is ok out of church, i am just saying it isnt ok anywhere and if we know it is bad in church then we know enough to know it is bad all over town.

We we are wired to be attracted to each other, some people lust more than others, and with women walking around almost naked, I am not talking about church at the moment, but in the streets. And then in church women showing the shape of their figure, along with 6 inch heels and so on. That stuff can get a man to lusting, when they did not come there intending on lusting. And as far as the women walking around in the streets, we are trapped, and there ain't a thing that we can do about it. and Pard, I already thought about horse blinders years ago.

I dont think women ask themselves enough ( christian women i mean) " would i wear this if i was in the house all day alone and was going nowhere and no one was coming over"

That may seem a strange question but if we wouldnt walk around in 6 inch heels all day alone then we can see the reason we go out that way is TO BE SEEN. That should tell us there is something wrong with our motives.

being that i like lewis am delivered from porn. i must repent daily when i look for its hard not to look again. our western society trains women to be sex objects, even if the dress doenst show alot(tight clothing).

And it really is EVERYWHERE!

Looking at some pictures my friends took at the carnival in town... the carnival is in a church parking lot, by the way...

Anyways, the paintings on some of the rides are of woman with huge cleavage, some are in corsets, some in bikinis, it is rather disturbing that not only is this in a church parking lot, but its a carnival... for kids...

I agree that women should dress modestly and not cause men to stumble. :thumb

What's wrong with six inch heels? :lol I think underneath ankle length skirts most people don't even notice them. :confused

Ok what about Christian women wearing bathing suits on a beach, or on their own property at their own pool, but the neighbors can see them. Should Christian women do this ?

that is wear romans 14 comes in. and this let us not use our liberty to make others stumble.

I think a modest bathing suit at the beach or a pool is appropriate.

Is a Christian woman in a modest swimsuit causing men to lust, when she is surrounded by worldly women in string bikinis? (That question is for you men who have lust problems.) As a woman, I can't answer that, but I am thinking if you have 100 women in string bikinis running around and a woman in a swimdress walked past you, you'd say "what woman in the swimdress?" :P So, from that standpoint, I do not see a problem with modest swimsuits at a beach or pool.

Although, there ARE some absolutely adorable burkini's out there. :chin

If a man has that big of problems with lust then he probably should not place himself in a place like a beach or pool. It would be like an alcoholic hanging out in a bar. If you have a problem staring at your neighbor who is at her own pool, then two words: tall bushes.

I certainly do not believe a woman should cause a man to stumble, but at the same time a woman can not be blamed for all of men's problems with lust. I had an ex-husband who would call me a whore and accuse me of trying to look sexy in my long skirts and long sleeved shirts. Seriously!?! :screwloose (His current wife walks around with her boobs hanging out in minidresses.)

Yes many of us men have lust problems, sometimes I have to slap myself, but as I said God wired us to be attracted to you women. We are supposed to get a grip on it though. Now many mighty men of God in the Bible have fallen because of women. So this can strike anybody if it gets out of hand. The Bible only addresses what to do 2 times, 2Timothy 2:22 is one, and the other one I forgot, but it also uses the word flee. So in other words, run.

I agree with you, and I also agree a woman should not tempt a man nor cause him to stumble. At the same time men should also be responsible, as you pointed out the verses in your post. The book Every Man's Battle teaches men to "bounce" their eyes away. http://www.amazon.com/Every-Mans-Battle ... 1578563682

While I am certainly in favor of women dressing modestly, I don't believe that we need to cover women in a full burka just because men have a problem with lust. Burka's don't cure lust. ;)
