Were UN armoured vehicles spotted in regional NSW?
Images have surfaced on social media platforms of trucks marked "UN" supposedly being transported through Narrabri, 520 kilometres north-west of Sydney.
No, these vehicles are not the harbinger of a one world government.(Supplied)
"I have reports coming in that there are UNITED NATIONS armoured cars being truck[ed] into NSW & VIC," one Facebook user wrote alongside a photo of armoured vehicles emblazoned with a red cross.
On TikTok, a post suggested that the vehicles were "here to get us unvaxxed warriors, they will round us up before December 1st".
The claims appear to dovetail with a far-right hoax claiming that the United Nations is moving to establish a "new world order" which has been circulating online in the form of a post titled "UN Agenda 21/2030 Mission Goals".
Among other things, the document suggests the global organisation will enforce a one-world government, end the right to own private property and place microchips inside every person.
The claim has been
fact checked numerous times and is not a genuine UN document.
But do the images from Narrabri show UN vehicles?
The trucks pictured are Australian-made
Bushmaster Protected Mobility Vehicles destined for Indonesia as part of that country's peacekeeping efforts.
Indonesia is the
eighth-biggest contributor to UN peacekeeping operations worldwide, aimed at helping countries transition from conflict to harmony.
Last November, the Australian government announced it would provide funding to the defence industry to work with allies on peacekeeping missions.
According to a spokesperson for the Department of Defence, Australia is gifting "15 Bushmaster vehicles to support Indonesia's peacekeeping capabilities, along with training on the operation and maintenance of the vehicles".
"The vehicles pictured were being transferred to an army testing site in Monegeetta [Victoria] as part of this arrangement."
The trucks seen in Narrabri are existing stock that will be refurbished to include markings such as "UN", the spokesperson confirmed.
Indonesia is already in discussions with Australia about
procuring more Bushmasters."
A very similar situation happened in Toronto, Canada, when UN armoured vehicles were spotted behind a building and anti-vaxxers freaked out saying that they were there to force the vaccines on people. The problem is, they were parked behind the building
that manufactures those vehicles. A little thinking can go a long way sometimes.
Quite the ungodly echo chamber this thread has become.
