Today was oil change day. I got the car done (did it in it's storage unit - spread an old blanket out over cardboard in case I made a mess). Then the rain moved in. I'll do the truck when ever it quits raining.
I had 4640 miles on this oil in the car - did the math, I've driven the car 5200 miles since I bought it June 8. Most of those miles were the 458 mile drive home and the 2800 mile trip to Arkansas.
This time, I used a potpourri of synthetic oils: 3 3/4 quarts of Mobile 1 5W50 racing oil, 2 3/4 quarts of OW40 Mobile 1, and one quart of Castrol Syntec 5W40. This leaves me one quart low, but up to two quarts low is tolerable.
I wanted to use up my 0W40 and also provide thinner oil for winter, as I do start it and drive it twice a month or so in the off-season. It will probably only have 500-700 miles on it when I change it in late March (back to all 5W50) for the Spring Dragon Run.
The manual and FSS says I can go 7000 or more miles on oil, but that just bugs me. It comes out so black and smelly that I can't leave it in there so long. Not when a new engine for this car is (*gasp*) $11,000. (More than I paid for the car, I assure you.)
