Jehovah is not a name of God.

Lease do some research on this name, especially what the Jewish people have to say about it.

The name for the Lord in the OT is YHWH.

I can't agree with this. Go back to my post # 84 and 127 where I explain that YHWH is the original Hebrew spelling for God according to their alphabet and Jehovah is the Greek Hebrew English spelling for Jehovah (God) found in the scriptures.

I didn't go back to read what you had previously stated, but the above is true. YHWH is Jewish JHWH. Jehovah came about by translating that original name of God....

I think this explains it best..I couldn't find anything shorter.

Diane,

Do you not believe in the Trinitarian God where God is one in essence/nature and three Persons - Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

I note you didn't include one Scripture to support your positions.

Oz
I believe they are not 3 persons.
Isa.9:6
Unto us a child is born, His name, The Mighty God, The Everlasting Father...
Can't get simpler than that.
Rev.1:8
Jesus states,
I Am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, A-Z....The Almighty...
Col.1:16
By Him were all things created....speaking of Jesus

So, if They are 2 different persons, it doesn't make any sense.

Gen.1:1
God created the heaven and the earth.

There is only One God....

As I tried to explain, these 3 are ONE.

Regardless of how you come up with this, The Bible, in Psa.83:18,
States it,
That men may know that thou, whose name alone is JEHOVAH, art the most High over all the earth..

Regardless of how you come up with this, The Bible, in Psa.83:18,

But the O.T. was written in Hebrew.
The name JEHOVA is NOT Hebrew.
The Hebrew name of God is YHWH. (Yaweh).

The names got changed gradually to Jehova because the O.T. was translated to Greek and then to Latin and English.

GOD is comprised of the Trinity. Three parts make up the whole. Just like a HUMAN BEING is is comprised of three parts (body, mind, spirit). If you look at each part separately, each part has a unique function, that if missing or damaged in some way, such as the spirit is by sin, effects the functioning of the whole. Taken alone, the human spirit is completely human, just as taken alone, the human body is distinctly human, etc. All three can be called human. This way of thinking of the Trinity makes sense to me because GOD said that we are made in His likeness. I am certain, that I have grossly oversimplified, but I am grateful for this limited understanding and hoped it might help someone else... When I really stop to think about the concept of GOD strikes awesome fear in me, and then I am a little bit terrified, and then I remember that, "oh yeah, it's OK, because JESUS reveals to us who and what GOD is, and Jesus is good and trustworthy and true and kind and compassionate and all of those other things that we love about Him, so then I can calm down a bit and get on with it. ;)

There is only one God who exist in three distinct persons, God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit as it's all God's spirit as the word made flesh (Jesus) and our comforter and teacher (Holy Spirit).

Have you made for yourselves an idol out of a name and then continue to argue over. This is not the mind of Christ!

Agreed.
This doesn't seem very important to me.
The Hebrews so respected God that they don't even say His name and even Christian Jews write G__. (for the English).

There is only ONE GOD.
He is called by different names all over the globe.
The Great I Am.
Almighty.

That should suffice.

If you would have read through all the replies you would see we are discussing Deity, not arguing, the various original Hebrew and Hebrew/Greek/English spellings of the names man has given for God as in Father and Son being called the same name. There is no idol in a name, but only that of what one worships as we all worship God. Have you come in to cause division!

Regardless, I was referring to the trinity, in its different offices.
He has many names, roles...
As Satan..
The serpent, Dragon, Satan , devil, king of tyre, the so called Antichrist and so on, still the same entity.

As referring to the name, that is another subject, my battery is getting low some other time.

Jehovah is not a Greek word, nor is it Hebrew or English.

Please research what people who speak Hebrew have to say about the word Jehovah as being the name of the Lord.

If we're speaking about the Trinity,,,
then the names are:

God the Father
God the Son
God the Holy Spirit

Anything else moves away from the Trinity/Godhead.
ONE GOD....
three persons in the one God.

Please stop making up lies about me.

No one has made an idol out of anything.

Jesus is the Name of the Lord; YHWH

Not Jehovah.

What’s the name of God the Father?

As Satan..

True.

Just as Jesus Christ.

The Lamb
The Word
Prince of Peace
Mighty God
Alpha and Omega
The Christ
The Messiah
The Holy One
The Lord
I AM

...and on and on

However, the Name above every name is Jesus.

Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. Philippians 2:9-11

Let's stop the personal attacks on each other and stay with the topic at hand. Need not reply to this.

What’s the name of God the Father?
God Father doesn't have a name.
He is the Great Almighty God.
The Great I Am.
The Hebrews called Him YHWH.....Yahweh.

He has many titles...
El meaning God
Elohim
El shadi
Adonai

Can't remember them all...had done a little study on this a few years back. Each name is an attribute of God.

The Word of God also does not have a name.
The incarnate Word of God has a name...Jesus.
The Holy Spirit also does not have a name,,,but like God Father, is named by His attributes.

I only read the beginning of the link....I believe it's what I was looking for....

FHG,

From where did you gain that information?

See 'Is Jehovah the true name of God?'

Oz

Post #84 is partly from Judaism 101 at jewfag.org and I tried to find the site that talked about the Masoretes who added vowels to the original Hebrew alphabet, but can't find it again, although there are other sites. I really do need to add my sources as I'm bad at that.

Post #127 I got from Seven Names of God - wikipedia

The original Hebrew name given for God is yhwh as the original Hebrew alphabet only had 22 letters with out vowels or the letter J, plus no capitalization. IMO I think Hebrew is probably the hardest language to learn.

The Masoretes were scribes around the eight century that added vowels to the original Hebrew alphabet for a better way of pronunciation. From that point on from the Latin, Greek and English transcribers we get the word Jehovah found in the JKV of the Bible.

This is why there is so much debate and confusion about the names that are given for Deity as the Trinity meaning three makes up the fullness of the Godhead, but the Godhead has many different names/Titles.
