The Methodicality of the Church

What if things are made a bit livelier?
Ate there certain practices that are old-fashioned today?
Yes. Hoping that 2014 people will respond to an1800 style church is kind of "head-in-the-sand" thinking.

What is "tripped?"
Our worship session usually lasted for FIVE minutes or there about. It is approximately twenty. Still poor compared to the amount of time the others...

I have, on my hard drive, four articles about this very thing.... as it pertains to the seriously shrinking Church of Christ "denomination".

They might be too large to post here, but I'll see if they will PM to you..... if you want.

One of our women leaders sang us a song: Old Time religion. Hope you know what I mean?

Yea. Thanks

It is a problem Classik.
It leaves no room for the Holy Spirit to act as he would like to.
It's like "we worship you Lord, now time to move on".

But the church provides what it does.
It should be a home base for people to connect.
In private groups the Holy Spirit acts.

We can't blame the church for what it does.
It has to provide for all types of people and still try to stay "correct" with Scripture.
If the only time people meet with other Christians is on Sunday morning, then that's the problem.

Even that song can be made to come alive.

She said there is no need for the youth to try to impose change on the entire church. Says we should continue with what we are used to.
Glad today we have some changes

What's the need when a church refuses to change and the youth are openly leaving them?

I think either someone is not listening to the calling of God to rise up as the youth leader, or the church is not praying for the best youth leader to come to their church.
Church leaders sometimes like to have all the control and not give it to God.

A song leader once stood in front of our old CoC church, and pointed out, all too clearly, that one of the old, OLD, cherished songs that we almost WORSHIPED as being written by God, Himself.... was, in fact, written by a teenager because his pastor father told him to write his own songs if he thought the hallowed hymns they sang in church were too old and dead.

He did. And, although I can't remember the name of the hymn, it became one of the most honored songs sung in thousands of churches today.

Sorry for not being clear again even after my world-class clarification :chin

In my church, this is the worship procedure: Sunday School lesson, worship (band and choirs), special presentations by members, testimonies, welcoming new members, sermon, hymal, closing, departure.

So you always know what will happen next.
At times this is boring.

Could there be a more attractive packaging?
Ah, there ya go! A much clearer world class clarification!!! :yes

I agree on much of that. But the solutions of how to change that within a particular church require long posts and I know a lot of people don't like long posts. I guess looking for another church that isn't like that is the quick answer.

To some this might not be boring. It might be secure and predictable.

People leaving could be 'a' solution. However I think it is better...let the church correct the problem. It remains a 'foundational' problem if not solved.

worship is what one puts into it. even new worship styles become boring in time.

I have to disagree that people leaving the church is a solution, unless of course they left in order to go to another church that is a better fit for them. But you mentioned youth, and about 90% of youth leave the church after they graduate from high school (and are no longer under their parents control). That 90% do NOT go to another church, they simply leave the church altogether. This is not a solution.
