In some cases it means marked as in authenticated as God's child and protected from Satan. The presence of the Holy Spirit in our lives is our guarantee of that. Part of that definition is seen in the use of the word circumcised. In the O.T. it refered to the removal of the prepuse and was a sign of being seperated from the unclean world and dedicated to God. In the N.T. the term circumcision of the heart is used as a metaphor and still means seperated from the unclean world and dedicated to God. It should be evidenced by control of fleshly lust and removal of spiritual impurity or sin.
When you go to the word marked as in mark of the beast that word is understood when related to the branding of livestock and is the result of a complete commitment to the anti christ. The devoted followers of the anti christ will receive a brand on their foreheads or hands as a symbol of their commitment to him.

NOPE,,,,You must think satan is stupid or something.....There is no way people are going to get literal brands symbolizing they follow satan/antichrist.......Satan doesnt work like that......
anyway from looking at the text,,,we see
16And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads:
The bible says "IN" their foreheads ,,,,,,youre saying "ON" their forehead,,,,theres a differance :yes
What is (in) your forehead?????? Your Brain........
You stated Satan is not stupid, you are right, he is arrogant. People are stupid, that is why so many will perish in the end. Regarding the word in vs. the word on in my post, please note the KJV uses the word in and all modern versions such as NAS and NIV uses the word on. Is one right and the other wrong I don’t think so. Four hundred years ago the word in and on were interchangeable depending on their context. Language and word usage changes over time. The message of the Bible does not waver at all but language does. The mark is required to buy or sell. Can you imagine the clerk at Wal-Mart having to read minds to see who is authorized to buy their products if the mark is within the mind or hand? I know this is where we could go into a discussion about computer chips. Marked in the mind or hand makes no sense at all when the verses are looked at in context of commerce.
Regarding the mark of the beast I stand by the use of branding. The children of Israel were marked or branded by circumcision. This was and ever present reminder and symbol that they were set apart from the rest of the people of the world and called to holiness unto the Lord. In the last days we know the temple is rebuilt and temple worship with all its ordinances are reinstated. Add to that this event takes place after years of killing Christians and the anti-Christ is now dominating the religious and political scene worldwide. He even has his image set up in the temple and requires that it be worshipped. It is very conceivable that people will willingly submit to a branding as a proud symbol of their devotion to the anti-Christ.
I would suggest any serious student of the bible get access to a Hebrew and a Greek lexicon. English words are related to the ancient languages and definitions are given in their context. There are some available on the internet by reputable seminaries and they are very easy to use even without knowledge of the languages mentioned
